The world needs more Canada, Congress section

Can you imagine Steve speaking thus?

Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard: ‘There is a reason the world always looks to America’
…
She blew them away.
Speaking with a heartfelt tone and, near the end some voice-wavering emotion (full text below), Gillard’s 30-minute speech won 16 outbursts of applause, six of them standing. According to those in the House chamber, there were too some moist eyes at the end.
…few foreign leaders realize that deep down in their collective continental heart, Americans secretly yearn to be liked. Gillard gets that. Or her speechwriter does. But the Australian’s emotion recalling her childhood awe at being let off school to watch Americans walk on the moon could not be faked…
Gillard hit all the right bases, touched all the right notes, recalling joint sacrifices and expressing a level of official appreciation that Congress has not heard at home for a very long time, even though Gillard stressed she was speaking for Australians to Americans.
Probably back home her critics will say Australia’s national leader sounded a bit obsequious toward the Yanks. But for this audience on this day in this place of Washington, the lady from Down Under ruled supremely…

Now that’s serving your real national interests. And note:

Australia’s prime minister told a joint session of Congress on Wednesday [March 9] that Australian troops in Afghanistan would remain with the U.S.-led coalition for years to come, knocking down recent reports that the country was contemplating an early exit from the war-torn country…
Australia is far and away the largest non-NATO contributor to the coalition in Afghanistan, with some 1,550 troops on the ground — a 40 percent increase since 2009…

Liberal Viewpoints vs. Mental Delusions

This recent commentary by Bill O’Reilly is most fascinating. Listen very carefully to what the liberal pundits are espousing.
Isn’t it absolutely amazing how a group of individuals can invent a complete delusion about threats from “far right Christians”? No evidence, no facts, no nothing. In the old days one would say that such individuals had mental delusions and needed to be under the care of a psychiatrist. Does it now just suffice to say, “Oh don’t mind him, he’s just a liberal” ?

Let me rephrase that

This surely deserves an award for Most Outstanding Correction In Publishing History:

CORRECTION: This submission misstates that one Dalai Lama admitted to having sex with hundreds of men and women while knowing that he had AIDS. Additionally, the submission misstates that many monks participated in the dismemberment of female bodies. In fact, there is no factual evidence to substantiate either of these claims. Spectator regrets the error.

You gotta laugh.

Harry “The Hipster” Gibson might have looked like a cross between Harpo Marx and an axe murderer, or like a manically delinquent character in one of those 1930’s cautionary tale films about the perils of mari-ju-wanna, but he could sure play a mean piano: here’s a vintage clip of him assaulting the ivories in a performance of Opus 12 Eee. Go, daddy-o!

Helping out ‘Friends of the CBC’ – the SDA Way!

In a previous thread, several commenters pointed out that a write-in campaign has been started by the “Sycophants Friends of the CBC”. Their intent is to stop the federal gov’t from cutting funds to the CBC. Perhaps you have a somewhat different view?! Feel free to use their web page as a template for your thoughts but also be sure to copy & paste your thoughts to Stephen Harper’s office directly. Also don’t hesitate to share your e-mail in the comments here.
If you’re stumped for ideas, you might want to watch this video by Lee Doren. Whenever you hear or see “NPR” or “PBS”, just substitute in “CBC”!

Still crazy after all these years

Our country–Publius hammers home:

The Priorities of Modern Canada
…Rather than being an attempt to promote a more bilingual Canada – which is an impracticality – official bilingualism was instead a covert form of pro-Francophone affirmative action.
Yet so central has this policy of appeasement become to our government that nothing is thought of paying a small fortune to educate a dyslexic paper shuffler in French…
The myth of national unity through appeasement contrasts with the myth of socialized health care…There is also no such thing as socialized health care. It is a polite euphemism for monopolistic and bureaucratic health care. The Medicare Cult’s defenders argue that the alternative to government care is a heartless free market, interested only in penny pinching and profit making. Do not, however, the actions of the Ministry of Health sound exactly like the caricature of a heartless corporate penny pincher?..

The Details Behind the NPR Sting

Here’s a link to a pair of videos where you can hear interviews of Hugh Hewitt talking with James O’Keefe and Andrew Breitbart about the recent NPR sting. It’s absolutely fascinating!
When will some enterprising young journalists do a similar exposé on CBC execs? I have little doubt that the latter would be espousing similar or worse views about Canadian conservatives!

Does V. Putin Read Keegan?

“Battle therefore … is essentially a moral conflict. It requires … a mutual and sustained act of will by two contending parties and, if it is to result in a decision, the moral collapse of one of them” ~ John Keegan
Or perhaps, he just likes the movies?
“You wanna get Capone? Here’s how you get him. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! ~ Jim Malone (The Untouchables)
Whatever the case, there will clearly be no Guantanamos in Russia.

What did you learn in school today, Billy?

Some students and parents were undoubtedly offended when how-to-masturbate posters stating “Your body is a wonderland” and urging readers to “spend your day thinking about situations that get you turned on” were put up in the campus library at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs New York, but that postering was nothing compared to what happened in a Human Sexuality class at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
John Leo at Minding The Campus:

A course on sex taught by psychology Professor John Michael Bailey recently featured a naked woman being worked on by a man wielding a sex toy. The man was described as ‘a Chicago sex tour guide.’ The 600-student course, which for some reason is one of the largest at Northwestern, features all kinds of sexual expression and guests that include swingers and convicted sex offenders. The optional, after-class sex-toy demonstration, Bailey said, “helps us understand sexual diversity”—possibly the first time a state-of-the-art vibrator demonstration was stuffed in under the campus diversity umbrella.

After a controversy erupted over the classroom activity, the University’s President issued a statement saying that the school “supports the efforts of faculty to further the advancement of knowledge…”
