Using the PA Date of Birth dataset, we can see day by day mail returns incredibly correlated across the state, within large counties, across age groups. I'm not sure how you'd get these correlations without a central group drawing from voter records&filling out ballots en masse https://t.co/awwRWQqv40 pic.twitter.com/uSzFZ17Xa5

It’s ok. They don’t want it anyway;
Enbridge Inc.’s battle with Michigan escalated on Friday as the governor took new legal action to shut down a key pipeline that supplies Central Canadian refineries.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer filed a complaint in Ingham County Circuit Court seeking to “revoke and terminate” an 1953 easement that allows Enbridge to operate under the Straits of Mackinac, which connect Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas.Line 5 is a key conduit of crude for Canadian refineries in Ontario and Quebec.
Y2Kyoto: Half The Water, Twice As Often
I’m surprised the kitchen sink escaped scrutiny;
Plus, like so many environmental rules, the old regulations made people’s lives worse without delivering improvements: “The tighter rules didn’t lead to energy savings for customers. The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers estimated that they actually increased water consumption by 63 billion gallons, as households would have to run their dishwashers multiple cycles, or pre-rinse their dishes by hand, in order to get dishes actually clean.”

Sedition: Outgoing Syria Envoy Admits Hiding US Troop Numbers
Four years after signing the now-infamous “Never Trump” letter condemning then-presidential candidate Donald Trump as a danger to America, retiring diplomat Jim Jeffrey is recommending that the incoming Biden administration stick with Trump’s foreign policy in the Middle East.
But even as he praises the president’s support of what he describes as a successful “realpolitik” approach to the region, he acknowledges that his team routinely misled senior leaders about troop levels in Syria.
“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” Jeffrey said in an interview. The actual number of troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the roughly two hundred troops Trump initially agreed to leave there in 2019. […]

Xi And Nenshi
After covering news that Nenshi was a target of Chinese influence, we gained access to dozens of pages of correspondence between Mayor Nenshi and the official Chinese Consulate in Calgary.
In the documents, Nenshi is sent menacing warnings to avoid any contact with a Tibetan official — Dr. Lobsang Sangay — who was visiting the city in 2018. He is told to “stick to the one-China policy, refuse any contact with Lobsang Sangay, and provide no support or convenience for his secessionist activities against China.” Nenshi was also told to whip city councillors to fall into line with Beijing.

“[The] Court concludes that Respondent Kathy Boockvar, in her official capacity as Secretary of the Commonwealth, lacked statutory authority to issue the November 1, 2020, guidance to Respondents County Board of Elections insofar as that guidance purported to change the deadline in Section 1308(h) of the Pennsylvania Election Code […] for certain electors to verify proof of identification, based on Secretary Boockvar’s interpretation and application of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision in Pennsylvania Democratic Party v. Boockvar,” Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt’s ruling reads. “Accordingly, the Court hereby ORDERS that Respondents County Boards of Elections are enjoined from counting any ballots that have been segregated.”

I, For One, Welcome Our New Self-Driving Overlords
Humans are simply not good at passing off 80-plus percent of a task and then staying alert to monitor what’s going on, which is what Autopilot demands. Since Level 2 systems offer no failover capability and need a human to be ready to take over at any moment, if you’re not paying constant attention, the wreck we see here is precisely the kind of worst-case nightmare that can happen.
It’s not just me saying this; experts have long known about how shitty people are at “vigilance tasks” like these for decades. Imagine having a chauffeur that had been driving you for hours, and then sees something on the road he doesn’t feel like dealing with, so, he jumps into the back seat and tells you it’s your job to handle it now.
You’d fire that chauffeur. And yet that’s exactly what Autopilot is doing here.
What Would We Do Without Experts?
As I like to say;
A few years back, you might remember, we were subjected to one of those navel-gazing D.C. polemics lamenting the “death of expertise.” Know-nothing proles had been showing less than appropriate reverence for the expert class — even though it continues to get so much wrong. In reality, it’s been more a “suicide of expertise.”
When allegedly erudite social scientists with big platforms make hyper-partisan arguments from positions of authority — “Hey, sociologist here . . .” — they do their already untrustworthy disciplines no favors. It’s not just that a Nobel Prize–winning economist such as Paul Krugman has adopted the malicious rhetoric of shrieking activists; it’s that his partisan-fueled predictions are so often and exhaustively wrong that he’s probably set back trust in economics by decades. (So maybe Twitter isn’t all bad?) Same goes for constitutional scholars such as Laurence Tribe. Once respected on both sides of the ideological divide, he is now sometimes barely distinguishable from @notmypresident6758we9a, the account that is raging deep in your feed late on a Saturday night.
Unexpectedly
Mortgage rates could be heading higher;
Three Canadian brokers told the Financial Post that they’ve already been contacted by lenders about a hike. Should the yield on the Canadian five-year bond hold at its current level heading into the end of the week, brokers believe that a hike between 10 and 20 basis points will be rolled out.
“Lenders want to make sure (the) move is a permanent move to a steady state,” said James Laird, co-CEO of Ratehub.ca and president of mortgage broker CanWise Financial. “If bond yields hold around their current levels, you should see mortgage rate changes in the later part of this week.”
