The aholes here would like to be able to boot out tenants because they can’t pay a 50% rent hike, but get mad at banks for doing the same. Feudalism was more merciful.

I beg to differ.
1. The mob won’t shut you down arbitrarily:
“Nice business ya gots there, would be a shame if sumfin were to happen to it. $500/month protection is whats ya needs.” I can only afford $300/month, here look at the books. “OK fine, but ya only gots coverage for fires, punk.”
2. The mob actually shows a profit, vs the state going deeper and deeper into debt, even as they gouge us for more and more.
3. The mob don’t care if you don’t meet some dumb code for square footage of toilets, or having a “working at heights” certification, ie pay for permission to use a freaking ladder…or whatever.
etc…
If the mob/bikers ran things, they certainly wouldn’t be any worse than what we have now.
Oh, and the mob won’t kill you for not wearing a seat-belt or helmet, or for selling lawn darts, or for having cigarette or beer vending machines, etc, but the state will.
Wealth is not a zero-sum game, despite what the Left incessantly whines about.
Power is a zero-sum game, despite the Right incessantly denies.

Also, no single regime remains in power indefinitely. Fractures occur and factions result. So when a community agrees to elect paid representatives, that community must have the will to withdraw their support if they do not receive representation.
The worst thing to happen to the west was winning the cold war.. Our government, the elites didn’t need us anymore.. Rather than dismantle the mechanisms used to fight communism, they reinvented new enemies to fight.. All the unmeasurable politics of the day..
Russia of all damned places is attempting to rebuild it empire .. A threat to the reset because our government might need us again.. But that ship sailed with globalism.. We cant go back and we cant go forward.. We are in essence, pouring billions into Ukraine to maintain our own irrelevance in support of globalism..
We have become the communists to embrace that political threat where as Russia has become freedom fighters to expand its borders.. Tyranny is a defensive posture after all.. Freedom is used to win wars..
Interesting how foreign threats has more to do with how your government treats you than some dusty old constitution.. Politics is fun..
Eventually people figure out that it is not worth joining your country’s military, or otherwise behaving in socially-minded ways. They tune out and check out.
Then you end up with gulag and firing squads.
I used to drive school bus, we were 1 of 2 districts in BC that were Teamsters union. I much preferred the mob Teamsters over the NDP supporting BCGU. And the drivers in our district were still allowed work with no covid vax, the Teamsters stood up for their members the BCGEU did not.
