B.C. MLAs: Perks for Me, But Not for Thee

In these tough economic times, this is truly terrible:

Money is tight for most British Columbians these days. But you wouldn’t know it from the way some politicians are burning through your cash over at the B.C. legislature.

Double dipping on housing allowances, using public money to film faux-documentaries, and big pay packages for superfluous new special advisors are just a few of the most recent examples of your tax dollars getting flushed down the proverbial toilet.

MLAs from all parties quietly voted this week to let themselves rent out rooms in their taxpayer-funded Victoria condos—to each other. The move clears the way to double dip on housing allowances to the tune of almost $52,000 annually.

The policy changes, made at the Legislative Assembly Management Committee, will permit an MLA who owns a residence in Victoria and is already receiving up to $25,983 per year in an allowed “capital city living allowance” to cover their mortgage, to also rent a room in their unit to another MLA, and then draw up to $25,983 in rental allowances from that same colleague.

The double-dip scenario means the MLA would walk away with up to $51,966, depending on the rental agreement and what is determined to be “fair market rent” at the moment.

Now Is The Time At SDA When We Juxtapose!

September 1776: American patriot, Nathan Hale, was hung for spying against the British. His famous last words were these: “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

October 2025: Modern Day Leftists on display at the No Kings protests. Never once in their sad, pathetic lives have any of them ever thought about what they could do for their country. Their severe narcissism would never permit it.

“Sexist” Has Officially Jumped the Shark

MSNBC’s Mike Brzezinski insists that the Democrat candidate, Abigail Spanberger, is facing an uphill battle because she’s a woman:

One problem: Spanberger’s opponent is an amazing woman named Winsome Earle-Sears.

Buck Sexton and Clay Travis have thoughts about this.

Where Did All of the Money Go, Gavin?

Absolutely disgusting news out of California:

Gavin Newsom gave his close family friends $500,000 from the Pacific Palisades fire aid relief money.

  • Getty family members donated over $500,000 to Newsom’s campaigns from his 1990s San Francisco supervisor run through his 2018 gubernatorial victory (e.g., bundled contributions via family trusts). This does not include the public J. Paul Getty Trust
  • The Getty family’s support has extended to Newsom’s political rise, with shared social circles including figures like Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Brown
  • Gordon Getty invested in all 11 of Newsom’s early ventures, holding lead stakes
  • A Getty family trust paid Newsom directly for investment consulting in the early 1990s
  • Gordon and Ann Getty provided undocumented gifts and low-interest loans for Newsom’s home purchases, including real estate in San Francisco

Why Do Some People Take Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Seriously?

In times past, I would have asked, “Does anyone actually buy the crap that AOC is spewing?” but it’s clear that many do.

A more apropos question is this: “What events have happened in the lives of those who believe the crap that AOC is spewing, such that they’re susceptible to such utter nonsense?!”

Two other related questions:

  1. Could someone like Ms. Ocasio-Cortez become the Prime Minister of Canada within one election cycle, proffering the socialist talking points that she endlessly does?
  2. Adam Carolla has suggested that people only listen to her because she’s attractive.  If she did look like Elizabeth May or Katie Porter, would she gain any electoral traction?

More on the Stellantis Departure from Canada

Here’s an interesting video on Stellantis leaving Brampton, Ontario:

Big news out of Ontario, as carmaker Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep) announced it’s moving production at its Brampton, Ontario plant to the United States.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is of course blaming Donald Trump’s trade policies for the move. But wasn’t it Carney who promised that he would be able to quickly negotiate a good trade deal for Canada if Canadians elected him PM?

And don’t forget how Carney has recently started touting that Canada already has the “BEST” trade deal with the US (auto workers in Brampton would probably beg to differ today…).

Predictably, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is lashing out, denouncing Trump as a “TYRANT” while demanding that Carney hit the Americans back.

Is this the smartest strategy for Canada? How are other countries seemingly managing to negotiate trade deals with the US while Canadians are left waiting?

And all this is happening as the Canadian and Ontario governments have collectively pledged $52.5 BILLION tax dollars to auto makers for electric vehicles and battery plants – despite consumers seemingly not wanting to buy EVs!

Joining Mark today to discuss is political commentator and business owner Mario Zelaya.

Mark and Mario also talk about a rumour that the Liberals are preparing to back away from their gun seizure plans. Could that actually happen, or is this just wishful thinking?

Poland vs. Woke Western Failures

This recent article shows how Poland has steadily climbed economically and will soon be exceeding economic output in the UK:

Twice does not quite cover it. In 1995 Poland’s GDP per capita was $13,600 in today’s money — about 36 per cent of Britain’s and roughly the same as Brazil’s. Today Poland’s figure is $44,500, or 81 per cent of ours. It may soon pull level. Since the end of 2019 Britain’s GDP per capita has grown by less than 1 per cent in real US dollars. Poland’s has grown almost 18 per cent, nearly twice as much as that of the US.

The Middle East’s Ancient Hatreds Have Given Way to Scorn by Clueless Canucks

While historic changes are occurring in the Middle East, the petty grudges of ignorant Canadians are still ongoing and some are noticing:

Canadian officials went so far as to ban American spirits from their store shelves, a prohibition that still exists in many provinces today.

“This was all about some ugliness that we’re not part of,” Moore said. “We’re not in politics. We’re just some guys in Virginia making good whisky. But unfortunately, we’re the victims.”

Canadian visitors by land to the United States have plunged 31% so far this year through the end of September, according to the most recent data from Statistics Canada. Air travel by Canadians is down by 13%.

“The tough thing for us is, it’s nothing we’ve done. We’ve worked hard to grow our business and lure folks who want to come across the border,” Dame said. “Canadians just aren’t happy. It’s not economic policy. It’s these hurtful things said about their country.”
