Spain Breaks Up Ring Smuggling Yemenis To Canada

Liberal voter demographics hardest hit;

Spanish police said Monday they have dismantled a criminal network suspected of smuggling mainly Yemeni migrants into Britain and Canada with fake passports.

After obtaining refugee documents in Greece, the migrants went to European airports where gang members would deliver them counterfeit passports to allow them to “irregularly” go to the two countries, police said in a statement.

The group allegedly facilitated more than 40 irregular migration attempts, charging up to 3,000 ($3,250) per person.

Police said they started investigating in September after Canada’s border agency alerted Spanish authorities to multiple cases of Yemeni nationals trying to enter from Spanish airports using forged travel documents.

Officers arrested 11 suspected gang members, including its alleged leader, in raids in northern Spain and Madrid.

Police said they traced flight bookings, money transfers, credit card payments, airport surveillance footage, and electronic travel authorizations as part of their probe into the network.

Supply Mismanagement

Even for the CBC, I have to admit that they explain the supply mismanagement situation pretty decently, particularly regarding the troublesome import quota issue. So while it is possible for American dairy products to get into Canada tariff free, importers first have to convince Canadian processors to allocate production space to them. I’d hazard a guess that they would have to pay for that space, which is why it doesn’t happen very often. Overall production quantities are ultimately limited by the intricate Canadian dairy pricing mechanism; in other words, consumers must be prevented from getting a bargain.

CUSMA sets import quotas for 14 categories of dairy products. That allows an annual volume of each category to enter Canada tariff-free, and any imports exceeding the quota would get hit with sky-high tariffs of 200 per cent or more.

Much of the quota volume is allocated to major Canadian-owned dairy processing companies such as Saputo and Agropur. Industry analysts on both sides of the border say such companies have little incentive to import U.S. products that would compete with their own.

New Governor, Same As The Old Governor

Mark Steyn: The picture [at left] turned up in my inbox yesterday and I assumed it was just Mark Carney welcoming Keir Starmer to the G7 summit.

Wesley Yang;

There was a time in the not so distant past when it would have been seen as contrary to the dignity of a head of government to make themselves available to be photographed with sex fetishists. This event crystallizes a longer term process of subversion that has over time eroded away that prior understanding of appropriate boundaries. Now it’s the politician who would withhold himself from such displays who is under suspicion of insufficient inclusivity.
