Reader Tips

In tonight’s video amusement en route to the Tips we watch the trailer for Savage Guns, the groundbreaking 1961 film that simultaneously heralded, and ended, a new film genre: the vaguely, ever-so-slightly, almost imperceptibly gay western.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society

Every time producers come up with a design for chicken cages the Humane Society of the United States, the animal rights group that wrote and sponsored Proposition 2, says it’s inadequate.
“HSUS is all over the board,” Arnie Riebli, president of the Association of California Egg Farmers, told our reporter. “It depends on what day we talk to them, what the story is for the day.”
“Statutes don’t always come in sizes,” HSUS attorney Jonathan Lovvorn then told our reporter. “We don’t want to tell farmers what kind of cages to use.”

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

What’s The Opposite Of Diversity?

University!

In recent years, a University of Oklahoma vice president has declared that no university resources, including e-mail, could be used for “the forwarding of political humor/commentary.” The College at Brockport in New York banned using the Internet to “annoy or otherwise inconvenience” anyone. Rhode Island College prohibited, among many other things, certain “attitudes.” Texas Southern University’s comprehensive proscriptions included “verbal harm” from damaging “assumptions” or “implications.” Texas A&M promised “freedom from indignity of any type.” Davidson banned “patronizing remarks.” Drexel University forbade “inappropriately directed laughter.” Western Michigan University banned “sexism,” including “the perception” of a person “not as an individual, but as a member of a category based on sex.” Banning “perceptions” must provide full employment for the burgeoning ranks of academic administrators.

CBC, October 2012…

In November, The U of R maintains …

…both students are in good academic standing and are eligible to enrol for classes.
University spokeswoman Barb Pollock also told the Leader-Post last week the U of R has co-operated in giving immigration officials whatever information it can.
“We have been asking to discuss this issue with the government and we have not been successful,” she said at the time.
