Those Moderate Muslims!

To mark the 25th anniversary of Hamas’s founding…

His voice rising to a shout, Mr. Meshal said: “Palestine is ours from the river to the sea and from the south to the north. There will be no concession on any inch of the land.” He vowed that all Palestinian refugees and their descendants would one day return to their original homes in what is now Israel.
“We will never recognize the legitimacy of the Israeli occupation, and therefore there is no legitimacy for Israel, no matter how long it will take,” he said. “We will free Jerusalem inch by inch, stone by stone. Israel has no right to be in Jerusalem.”

The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire

Let me fix that sentence for you.

THIS is what poverty sometimes looks like in America: This is what government dependency looks like in America; parents here in Appalachian hill country pulling their children out of literacy classes. Moms and dads fear that if kids learn to read, they are less likely to qualify for a monthly check for having an intellectual disability.
Many people in hillside mobile homes here are poor and desperate, and a $698 monthly check per child from the Supplemental Security Income program goes a long way — and those checks continue until the child turns 18.

The Stupid Party

Money, money everywhere…

In general, there has been a misallocation of resources by the people who write the checks and hold the purse-strings in Republican politics. Nothing illustrates the disconnect between money and brains in the GOP than a fact highlighted by Jimmie Bise: Charlie Crist raised $4.3 million in a single three-month period of 2009.
The more I think about that, the angrier I get. Who were these more-money-than-brains people who wrote those checks for Crist? Did they just take the word of John Cornyn and Jim Greer that Crist was the man to beat in the Florida GOP Senate primary?
A fool and his money are soon parted, and there are times when the Republican Party resembles nothing so much as a scam for separating rich fools from their money.
For $4.3 million, you could have paid 86 bloggers $50,000 a year.

National Post;

Sergei Magnitsky was a lawyer in Russia exposing large-scale corruption by government officials when he was beaten to death by guards in a Moscow prison in 2009; Alexander Perepilichnyy, a Russian businessman, had fled to Britain and was a whistleblower over the same fraud when he mysteriously collapsed and died last month.
These two dramatic deaths bookend the remarkable crusade of Bill Browder, the American-born investor for whom Mr. Magnitsky worked and to whom Mr. Perepilichnyy was spilling his secrets.
On Thursday, Mr. Browder saw the U.S. Senate pass the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act by a wide margin, a law blacklisting Russian human rights abusers.

It was a triumphant moment for Mr. Browder, who has relentlessly lobbied for such sanctions, but it hardly ends his quest for justice over Mr. Magnitsky’s gruesome demise.

A Preview of Michael Mann’s Lawsuit?

Graham Redfearn is a “climate journalist” in Australia and an intellectual comrade of the infamous Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Redfearn loves to compare anyone who questions him with Holocaust Deniers. He also isn’t very happy having to comply with Australia’s Freedom of Information Laws. Poor darling.
One can only wonder what hysteria Mann will exude once the lawyers of the National Review and Mark Steyn start demanding information, which is their legal right since Mann is suing them for defamation.
You can follow Mann’s privileged life here. He sure does a lot of traveling, doesn’t he? Must be pretty cool to be able to travel around without burning any hydrocarbons … oh wait.
Update: Michael Mann’s university name corrected – thanks to John Lewis

Forward!

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Political Wire, December 4th – Filmmaker Michael Moore received $841,145 in tax incentives from the State of Michigan to make Capitalism: A Love Story, a documentary against corporate welfare, the New York Times reports.
Detroit News, Dec.7th – …a plan is being solidified in the governor’s office that would guide Michigan’s largest city through what is being called a managed bankruptcy.

Deep Impact

The Washington Post is dealing with a steep decline in its core business of print advertising. Its newspaper division reported an operating loss of $56.3 million for the first nine months of this year, reflecting a 14% decline in revenue to $160.7 million. The company lost its chief revenue officer in the spring, and the search for a replacement continues…

Nexen/CNOOC

This is a bit profane, but it contains no small measure of truth.
Or, to put it a different way:

Nexen-CNOOC deal approved… que Left-wing sheep rants with no understanding of economics, the company, or the terms.
The Rant: China is taking over our resources.
The Reality: The Alberta government owns all the producing and non-producing leases that Nexen has. Nexen has maybe 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalents, and the oil sands alone contain over 1500 billion barrels. 90 percent of Nexen’s Q3 cash flow came from outside of Canada, so it’s only 10 percent “Canadian” resources anyway… Not a huge deal. Anyone in the Financial markets or the Oil and Gas industry knows this is the right decision and will result in increased productivity and job production in Canada. This small stake is not a threat to national security.
The Rant: China is going to take all the jobs and move them to China.
The Reality: Not allowed under the restrictions. More jobs created in Canada due to increased Capital injections.
The Rant: The NDP or Liberals would never do this.
The Reality: No previous Governments have ever blocked a foreign takeover. The Conservatives were the first with the blocking of the Potash deal.
There is a huge amount of ignorance and uneducated opinions on this topic, which is why there is a backlash from lefty loonies. Canadians who understand the full terms and the free market economy should be happy.
The US had a monopoly on our oil and were paying $25.00 per barrel less than world prices. That will end. Maybe the yanks should have thought thru using the Keystone pipeline as a political tool to appeal to the President’s anti free market base.
Elections have consequences. Canada has no intention of following the now marxist USA into the dumper. When you shit on your friends, don’t be surprised when they find new friends.
