The World Is Being Run By Crazy People

Because it’s worked everywhere it’s been tried;

“We are spending money we don’t have,” Mr. Bloomberg explained. “It’s not like your household. In your household, people are saying, ‘Oh, you can’t spend money you don’t have.’ That is true for your household because nobody is going to lend you an infinite amount of money. When it comes to the United States federal government, people do seem willing to lend us an infinite amount of money. … Our debt is so big and so many people own it that it’s preposterous to think that they would stop selling us more. It’s the old story: If you owe the bank $50,000, you got a problem. If you owe the bank $50 million, they got a problem. And that’s a problem for the lenders. They can’t stop lending us more money.”

Free Tom Flanagan!

Context, from a member of the Lethbridge audience.

I have read the rhetorical question in articles published on Flanagan’s child porn remarks, “How Flanagan got onto the child pornography topic from the Indian Act, we’re not sure…” I hope after reading and viewing the above clips you will know now.

Bye, Bye, Green Blog

The New York Times throws in the towel.

The Times is discontinuing the Green blog, which was created to track environmental and energy news and to foster lively discussion of developments in both areas.

Meanwhile, there’s trouble down at the Bloggies;

“Reflecting such concern, I have learned that Skeptical Science, who have never lobbied to be nominated and are the only non-climate sceptic blog on the Science shortlist, has now asked to be withdrawn from the shortlist due to its concerns about the legitimacy of the voting process.”

I blame the climate.

Spending Their Way to Total Collapse

Italy may be providing a preview of how other countries are going to handle their out-of-control spending problems: Spend even more!

Those old solutions [to financial woes] … emphasize fiscal frugality (cuts to social welfare), flexible labour markets (low wages) and structural adjustment (throwing people out of work).” Given a choice, voters will choose anything else: “they will vote for anyone who promises another way. If the only ones promising another way are racists, sybarites and clowns, that’s who people will vote for.”

We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Mirrors

Washington Times;

Citing confidential documents, Green Choice Solar LLC says the Colorado-based Abound knew about two major problems with some of the company’s solar panels.
The company’s disclosure, made public in a recent filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, raises new questions about Abound Solar’s products and who will pay to get rid of solar panels that don’t work anymore. It’s unclear from the filing whether federal officials were told about defects. A spokesman for the Department of Energy, which awarded a loan to Abound Solar, declined to comment on the court filing when reached Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Green Choice says it is stuck with thousands of Abound solar panels that are expensive to dispose of because they contain cadmium telluride, a toxic substance.

Free Bill Whatcott!

Andrew Coyne;

If the Court is inclined to wink at the state’s traditional need to prove its case, it is not so indulgent of the defendant. As anyone who follows the workings of human rights tribunals can attest, they are a strange parody of ordinary criminal courts. Not only is it no defence that the accused had an honest belief in what he said: it is not even a defence that it is factually true. Here, too, the Court is at peace. As the decision primly advises, “truth may be used for widely disparate ends.” I cannot quite believe I am reading these words, even now.

Consider this your open thread on the “decision”.
