Going For Broke

When the mainstream financial media starts to use the terms “alarm” and “collapse” in the same sentence, it’s probably too late to do anything about it.

The report from University of Ottawa’s Missing Middle Initiative compares housing starts and sales in 34 municipalities across the Greater Toronto Area and neighbouring Southern Ontario cities for the first six months of 2025 with the same period from 2021–2024. It found starts are down 40 per cent relative to that four-year average, with pre-construction condo sales plunging 89 per cent and other homes 70 per cent.

That Worked Out Well

Sun- Britain faces Palestinian reparations demand that could cost £ 2 trillion

And it does not stop at Britain. Other European states that have recognized Palestine could be next in line for demands. The Palestinian Authority has signalled its strategy: to secure symbolic recognition and leverage it into financial and political claims. Hamas will continue to frame each step as a victory, strengthening its hand while violence and hostage-taking continue.

How Dare You Get Your Life Together

On perversity as a marker of progressive status:

The meaning of the term “marriage fundamentalism” – a term used repeatedly – isn’t made entirely clear, and its allegedly racist and life-crushing particulars are, inevitably, “hidden,” “invisible,” and conveniently vague – despite the loudly announced use of “an intersectional lens.” But it seems to mean something like the tendency of many adults to see marriage as of mutual benefit and an optimal way to raise children.

Stripped of contrivance, I’m assuming the above is a roundabout admission that, on average, people who find marriage an alien concept and much too demanding, and who opt instead for transient partners, fatherless children, and unstable relationship trash fires, tend to do less well in life, along with their offspring. Though I’m not sure why the response should be to blame those who get their shit together, marry, and raise children more successfully.

If little Don’t-Know-Who-My-Dad-Is is starting fires at school and looks destined for a life of delinquency and crime, this is not obviously the fault of the happily married Mr and Mrs Jefferson and their two non-fire-starting children. And no amount of chest-puffing about “heteropatriarchy,” “unequal power relations” and “white supremacy” seems likely to alter that fact.

One of these.

Worst Fascist Ever

Via Instapundit;

Jimmy Kimmel is getting back on the air.

The ABC late-night host is returning to broadcast on Tuesday following a brief-but-monumental suspension that sparked a national debate over the Trump Administration’s pressure tactics and the modern limits and consequences of free speech.

Millions who weren’t watching Kimmel will resume their not watching Kimmel.

Update: Sinclair ain’t having none of it.

The Plot Thickens! – Kimmel should hit Disney with both barrels. Don’t hold back, go full-on rage. Demand that a boycott of all their product continue indefinitely.

Golden Era?

The mainstream financial media is looking at this the wrong way. It’s not gold that’s going up, but rather the dollar that is going down. For the most part, all the derivative currencies are doing even worse. The main reason is not imminent hyperinflation but rather fear of default as the fiat debt burden continues to rise exponentially.

Gold futures surged to around $3,750, while bullion for immediate delivery traded above $3,700 per ounce.

Luxury Items

The jump to 15% minimum suggested tips is probably playing a role, but even without that the restaurant industry is struggling with the pandemic hangover and a marginal consumer who cannot afford to eat out.

Three in four Canadians are eating out less, often because of the high cost of living, a Restaurants Canada report published Monday found. That share is even higher among those aged 18 to 34 at 81 per cent.

Restaurants Canada chief executive Kelly Higginson said it’s an “alarming” trend for the foodservice industry.
