Got to admit, I’ll miss Mulcair.
Members of the Donald Trump transition team, possibly including Trump himself, were under U.S. government surveillance following November’s presidential election, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told reporters Wednesday.
Nunes said the surveillance appeared to be legal but that he was concerned because it was not related to the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the election and was widely disseminated across the intelligence community.
“I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show that the president-elect and his team were, I guess, at least monitored,” Nunes told reporters. “It looks to me like it was all legally collected, but it was essentially a lot of information on the president-elect and his transition team and what they were doing.”
Nunes said he is heading to the White House later Wednesday to brief Trump on what he has learned, which he said came from “sources who thought that we should know it.” He said he was trying to get more information by Friday from the FBI, CIA and NSA.
So, this is getting even more interesting now. It appears now that a number of Trump insiders were intercepted, and no, I’m not buying the argument that Trump saying “wiretapped” was wrong, especially since that’s exactly what was reported. And it appears now that people trying to maintain that Trump was “lying” about being wiretapped are being driven to the interesting defense that it was a lie because the U.S. wasn’t actually wiretapping Trump people when the U.S. was wiretapping Trump people.
Which is, at least, good for a laugh.
Judging by the fury with which the media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) attacked Nunes today, I’d say there’s a there there, and then some.

Update in Liberal Red.

Developing… Two people were shot outside the UK Parliament on Wednesday. Twelve others were injured in a possible knife attack.
More up at Daily Mail.
“Asian” man in his 40’s:
policeman has been stabbed and his attacker shot by officers after a major terrorist attack at the Houses of Parliament that saw up to a dozen pedestrians hit by a car, leaving at least one woman dead.
The attacker mowed down people on Westminster Bridge in a grey Hyundai i40 before crashing the car into railings – then running through the gates of the Palace of Westminster and stabbing the officer.
Witnesses reported at least two bodies on the ground on Westminster Bridge and “one in the water”. St Thomas’ Hospital confirmed one woman has died and a number of others have been hurt – including some with “catastrophic” injuries.
Yup. Looks Japanese.

Update: Previous speculation on the id of suspect was incorrect, and has been removed. New information here.
Before the fake Turkish Golden Retriever scam
…was the Asian dog meat scam that introduced a deadly canine flu into America last year. Just this month, the San Diego Humane Society imported yet another plane load of dogs from Korea for resale. San Diego. California. The same California that claims to have a massive overpopulation of dogs in their shelters when they ship dogs north to Oregon, Washington, Utah and Canada is importing dogs from Korea. Not just any dogs. Puppies.

Who’s number one?
So to recap: 1) the nothing burger is still a nothing burger. The heads of various agencies have said with one voice, “there is no evidence” of any criminal collusion between Donald Trump and his associates and the Russians. 2) The one crime we know was committed was the unmasking of Mike Flynn’s name. Maybe we’ll never know who did it. But I wouldn’t bet on that…
More – “if there was no surveillance of Trump of any kind, where did all these stories come from, which their reporters attributed to “intelligence sources”?
They see Russians under every rock.

Serious questions are raised today over hundreds of millions of pounds of British taxpayers’ money being ‘wasted’ on climate change projects such as an Ethiopian wind farm and Kenyan solar power plant.
A Telegraph investigation shows little benefit so far from a £2 billion foreign aid programme to tackle climate change that was established eight years ago.
One scheme, costing £260m of UK taxpayers’ money, has produced only enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of just 100 British households – about the size of a typical street.
Projects including solar parks in Kenya and Mali, a rubbish-burning power plant in the Maldives and wind farmer project in Ethiopia are all earmarked for funding from the scheme.

Cathy Young on the dishonesties and delusions of feminist author Rebecca Solnit:
Solnit claims domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to American women; yet Centres for Disease Control and Prevention statistics show that all assault, domestic or not, ranks eighth among causes of injury to women — behind not only falls and car accidents but insect stings and animal bites.
They don’t need no stinking evidence…
Key Democratic officials are clearly worried about the expectations that have been purposely stoked and are now trying to tamp them down. Many of them have tried to signal that the beliefs the base has been led to adopt have no basis in reason or evidence. […]
But on Wednesday night, Morell appeared at an intelligence community forum to “cast doubt” on “allegations that members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.” “On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire at all,” he said, adding, “There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark. And there’s a lot of people looking for it.”
