Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Socialism. Can’t have a World Government without it. Therefore every Elite and power grubbing wannabe is “damn the torpedoes” for it. They just need to make it more of a religion so mix in a little peace without freedom, a little soylent green Earth and a whole lotta of guilt for being living humans into the black caldron and *POOF* we all get the next Great Leap Forward…
Coming soon to an Alberta near you.
And Canada, plus maybe BC.
No doubt they will get it right here in Canada. Just because it has failed everywhere else is no evidence it will fail here, as, after all, Canadians are more forgiving, more loving, more accepting of our betters in the Laurentians, more voting for pretend conservatives.
Ken (Kulak) >
“Canadians are more forgiving, more loving, more accepting….”
Heh, wait until the demographics flip completely to Third World attitudes along with Islamic and Chinese style acceptances of others.
I wonder what those First Nations treaties will look like in “Canada’s” future. LOL
So, here’s the problem. Socialism can work, but you must have a very homogeneous, self correcting culture. For a long time Sweden some of other countries worked very well. People would culturally accept working hard, and giving to master planners. Don’t know if the people realized they were working for the master planners, but I digress. Anyway, if you were able bodied but did not work you would be a social outcast. There was no sitting around allowed.
I firmly believe that with that homogeneous culture that values hard work, is willing to isolate and punish those who break the rules can indeed work for a long time. But as long as the culture needs to be there, there must be great hono[u]r in the leadership. No matter how great the culture may be, once the leadership goes off the rails you get Venezuela.
So, the problem is, the far left, who want great socialistic states also believe in multiculturalism. That immediately breaks the rules.
It just can’t succeed. But yet they persist.
Problem is, many of the foot soldiers are naturally good hard working people, who, themselves would never take advantage of the system, and thus project this on all other people. Like at the bleeding hearts in the UK who allow the Gypsy and Muslim immigrant to blatantly abuse social services. It is much easier to stomach the victim excuse than the fact they are just abusing the system.
And then you have all the people who are just trying to figure out how to abuse the system for their own good.
What ever, the critical mass for people abusing the system is pretty low I figure. And the EU, middle east and North America has enough.
In Other Words, we no longer have enough hard working people to pay for the deadbeats. And the more we try to help the deadbeats the lower the threshold. And the cycle ramps up.
That is where we are at.
Hopefully we can pull back from the abyss. I am still hoping Trump is working in mysterious ways. I know he has a minefield to navigate. The people need to rise soon, the UK is not enough.
Iceland’s retrofit of its financial system needs to happen throughout the free world. But how much damage will be done. We can’t go back to the gold system, fractional lending would be hard to recover from.
it is going to be an interesting ride.
It’s hard to find in-depth news articles in the MSM on 2 things:
1. Venezuela
2. How “well” things are going in Alberta’s oil patch.
Lots’ of adorable photos of the Prime Minster’s cute kids though, so there’s that.
And because “Canadians are more forgiving, more loving, more accepting” we end up with this,

We are on the highway to socialist paradise (H*ll) thanks to Liberal Canadians like this who’ve got the pedal to the metal.
When my parents emigrated to Canada, back in the Fifties, my father was told by an immigration officer that he could be deported back to Britain if he ran afoul of the law in any way. Now we have the law, breaking the rules to ensure the Liberal paradise of socialism arrives here before we all wake up to the truth that socialism doesn’t work. The Pilgrims learned this lesson after only a few years in the Massachusetts colony and promptly abandoned the concept. We can only hope that we can avoid repeating what is happening in Venezuala.
Remember what Justin the Wise said during the election campaign: “A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.”
We’re now a sanctuary post-national country. Any social flotsam and jetsam is allowed in and will never be booted out.
It’s notable that Obama has not visited his fellow compatriots in Venezuela or Brazil since retiring from the US Presidency. Seems as though he only hangs out with immensely wealthy capitalist hedge fund managers and the like. Therefore, I DO expect to see him hanging out with Chavez’s $ Billionaire daughters … really soon. Or, well, I expect to see Michelle dining with the daughters after they scissor their timbers together.
All humor aside … I use the same methodology when I need to diet. My cupboards go as BARE as Venezuela’s … no temptations … no need for self control … just empty spaces. Nothing in the pantry but onions and chicken stock. It’s the Michelle Obama school lunch program … without the Kale and veggie burgers.
Yup Poverty the universal diet.
I’m reminded of my relatives, formerly of Russia, now in Germany, who verified the old Soviet joke of, “We pretend to work and the government pretends to pay us”.
Another prophecy coming true in North America, teachers pretend to educate and we get ‘snowflakes’ that think they are educated.
Having been a post-secondary educator, I can confirm that.
However, the “pretending” was mostly dictated by the administration and the provincial government. We were required to graduate a minimum number of students because the institution’s reputation (acquired well before I started there) was at stake.
The government rewarded individual institutions and departments with “gravy” funding if certain critical benchmarks were reached and I was required to do whatever was necessary to contribute to that. Again, reputations were at stake, particularly those of ambitious administrators.
Nobody in charge wanted to deal with the serious problem that we were accepting students fresh out of high school who were ill-prepared for the academic demands of post-secondary education. Instead, we had to dilute our standards in order to keep our “customers” (formerly referred to as students) happy.
The whole thing amounted to an intellectual house of cards and any dissent from the mandated ideology was seen as attacking the system’s structural integrity.
The farce that it had become was one reason I quit and walked away from it 15 years ago.

“We were required to graduate a minimum number of students……..”
Of course with “Affirmative Action” and the in-flooding of the Third World, we can expect those same results to multiply exponentially.
The constant whining by US Educational Departments especially in California always makes me laugh at their stupidity. Europeans & Canadian’s are simply following suit….

That’s one reason I don’t feel sorry for academics whining about tenure.
Oh, it’s nice to have a “job for life”, as tenure is often portrayed as, but leaving such a position does mean abandoning that security. However, with all the fun and games that now pervade academe, especially now with the Invasion and “safe spaces”, it wouldn’t surprise me that many academics would dearly like to get out if they could find a comparable position.
Tenure nowadays is an example of being careful about what one asks for as one might actually get it.

“Tenure nowadays is an example of being careful about what one asks…”
Heh, sounds about right.
I’m betting that “Tenure nowadays” will soon follow the US example, and certain teachers with the wrong racial “privilege” and not enough racial “victim” need not apply for more and more positions, regardless of qualifications. In fact despite good qualifications in many cases.
certain teachers with the wrong racial “privilege” and not enough racial “victim” need not apply
You’ve got that right. After I finished my Ph. D., I applied for all sorts of positions.
Many of the ads I read were worded in such a way that only applicants who met certain racial/social/whatever criteria were eligible. Those same ads also clearly stated that the institutions in question welcomed applications from all “qualified” individuals. Reading between the lines, though, one could surmise what “qualified” actually meant but specifically saying that was against the law.
As a result, I’m not at all surprised at the on-campus shenanigans that are frequently in the news.
It’s everywhere now, you don’t even need to be a citizen to be an RCMP, whatever “citizen” means outside of tax filing………
“Up until now, Mounties had to be Canadian citizens. But under the changes that took effect today, permanent residents who have lived in Canada for at least 10 years are eligible to apply.
The shift could only help the RCMP meet its target for 20 per cent of its ranks to be comprised of visible minorities.
Last summer, the RCMP exempted university graduates from taking the national police force’s entrance exam. Now, people with a minimum two-year college diploma may also skip the exam, which tests a person’s aptitude for police work.”

May those RCMP go onto the PMs security team…
Karma…

Then again, in the words of the Greatest Prime Minister Canada Ever Had (TM), “A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.”
Ha, you will also notice that no trolls ever seem to visit SDA’s Venezuela threads. I believe it is for the same reason you cite.
Without even a vaguely believable MSM narrative to regurgitate, leftard trolls are left speechless on this one.
Which just goes to prove how unintelligent the average leftard is. I mean, c’mon, their trusted media already clearly told them what to think…… that Venezuela is Trump’s fault. Idiots.
The basic flaw of socialism lies in the fact that under the preconditions necessary for it to succeed and be sustainable, i.e. universal human generosity, industry and selflessness (the new communist man) virtually any system could succeed. It’s the very fact that these preconditions do not exist and in all likelihood will never exist that makes repeated attempts to implement it invariably doomed to failure with abjectly dismal results.
Hate to disagree with you DrD but the conditions you mention always have existed. The problem however is that they exist in conjunction with greed and envy, and as a result we can never attain Utopia as imagined by the Socialists and dreamers. You see these are the people that embody greed and envy, the very people that try to epitomize and advocate for Utopia are the very people that are envious of the successful adherents of ‘capitalism’. The same people that in supposedly advancing socialism make sure that the money they take from the ‘wealthy’ goes into their own pockets first. The liberal/socialist politicians in this country are fine examples of the greed and envy section of the human equation.
