Following a comprehensive, nation-wide, five-month search process, Chief Farooq Hassan Sheikh has been named the 15th Chief of the Regina Police Service.
Chief Sheikh (pronunciation, SHAKE) comes to the Regina Police Service from the Alberta Sheriff’s Service where he’s held the position of Chief since 2021. The Alberta Sheriff’s Service has over one thousand employees, who perform a wide range of law enforcement and public safety activities across the province of Alberta.
Chief Sheikh has over 31-years experience in law enforcement, serving in senior leadership roles for the London Metropolitan Police and West Midlands Police in the United Kingdom and as a member with both the Calgary and Central Saanich Police Services, among others. He has his Masters Degree in Criminology and is passionate about crime prevention through proactive policing. Employee health and well-being is also a priority for him, as policing becomes increasingly dangerous and complex.

It’s odd that associate membership with the EU was never once mentioned during the last election, yet today it is being celebrated by the chattering classes as if it were the best thing since sliced bread.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed Canada becoming the first associate member of the European Union.
Not everyone is cheerleading, however. But you have to go to lesser known publications to see any of that.
Smyth used stronger language in an August article in The Western Producer, writing that joining the EU would be an “unmitigated disaster.”

CTV: Trucking company charged under Immigration Services Act in Regina
Jorowar Singh and JD Trucking Ltd. have both been charged with making or signing any false statements, providing false statements or providing any false, misleading, or inaccurate information – violating section 7-6(1) of the ISA.
Singh and JD Trucking Ltd. appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 2, with proceedings adjourned until Sept. 28.
“While the ISA and FWRISA specifically protect against the unique situations that immigrants and foreign workers may find themselves in, all employees, whether Canadian citizens or permanent and temporary residents, are protected by employment standards and occupational health and safety provisions within The Saskatchewan Employment Act,” the province noted in its news release.
JD Trucking is listed as operating a truck terminal on the North Service Road in Moose Jaw.

In August, a Moose Jaw employer was fined $5,000 and ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution after charging a foreign worker to keep his job.
Dyan Jeny Enterprises pleaded guilty to charging Parth Patel an employment-related fee during his time as a foreign worker at Guac Mexi Grill in Moose Jaw. Patel made three $4,000 payments to the business to avoid jeopardizing his employment status.
Earlier, in July, a Saskatoon man was handed a conditional sentence after admitting he had counselled foreigners to misrepresent their employment details on immigration applications.
A Canada Border Services Agency investigation found that Balvir Singh “falsified pay stubs, offers of employment and other supporting documents related to non-existent employment in Canada.” The agency also learned Singh was charging foreign nationals as much as $40,000 for immigration sponsorship.
In March of this year, an unlicensed immigration consultant was ordered to pay $96,000 to compensate a victim.
The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training said Yan Wang was collecting payments for immigration services. But Wang didn’t “submit any documents on the client’s behalf to the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program and provided the victim with falsified documentation.”

Gray News reported, “The Atlantic hurricane season is already one for the record books. It has been 103 days since the hurricane season started, and no hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic Ocean. That is a new record.
“Since the satellite era began in 1966, the latest date that the first hurricane formed in the Atlantic hurricane season was Sept. 11. Hurricane Gustav formed on Sept. 11, 2002, and Humberto formed on Sept. 11, 2013.”
It’s now been 106 days. This means the crisis has passed.
And there is more. No Atlantic hurricanes made landfall in the continental United States during the 2025 season—the first time that had happened since 2015.

A balanced budget at any level of government in Canada is wishful thinking on steroids these days. John Q. Voter’s capacity for critical thinking was numbed so effectively by the Covid spending spree that any political party would be wiped out at the polls if they implemented anything beyond token spending cuts.
The Parti Québécois is promising to balance the provincial budget by 2028-2029, a year earlier than the current Quebec government’s projections.
The PQ’s plan calls for a $6.6-billion reduction in government spending over five years.

It speaks to the credibility problem of a mainstream media like Reuters when they can regurgitate an extraordinary claim about AI without once questioning how anyone could reach such a conclusion. It’s not that someone said AI could kill a lot of people, but rather that AI could literally kill all of us. And by what means?
