  1. the issue of credentials and combating plagiarism is * c-e-n-t-r-a-l * to academia.
    l know, l went back in in 2016 and found out there is a procedure to submit papers to a screening process that looks for matching quotes, and then when it passes adds YOUR submission to the database.
    there was never anything about ‘yawell if’n youse is blaggck youse is exempt’

  2. It would seem that the only reason he got the job, despite all the red flags is because he’s black. Just woke DEI that infests all the schools and is dumbing down education in the west.

  3. I’ve said this before, but….
    He lost his job, as he should have.
    He betrayed any semblance of academic integrity.
    But what about the people who hired him?
    Why do they still have their cushy jobs?
    They threw any perceived integrity of their institution (Cambridge) under the bus as soon as a young black guy with eye shadow walked in the door.
    Checking for plagiarism or a falsified personal history is now easier than ever before – but they chose not to do so. Thats’s malpractice (laziness) of the worst degree.
    So he takes the fall and they get off scot free?
    If anything, as senior faculty, their scuttling of any semblance of academic rigour is even more egregious than his.
    Kids – go to trade school.

    1. No kidding! BTW … your average HS English teacher can detect his level of plagiarism in any students book report. They do … constantly in my local ‘white’ schools

  5. Checking prospective … black … professor’s backgrounds is such a ‘white’ thing to do. Good for Cambridge for throwing off the chains of their ‘whiteness’.

    1. Ah, yes, Cambridge. It has a storied history, and many notable alumni.
      Here is a shortlist….
      Milton, Francis Bacon, Darwin, Newton, Nehru, Turing, Oppenheimer, a few Kings of England, the list goes on.
      I agree with first timer on what the senior faculty are guilty of.
      Universities, churches, and all manner of western “institutions” have been conquered by the long march.
      At least the west doesn’t have hordes of young men housed at former military bases.
      I wouldn’t know.

  8. Whenever I hear “trust the experts”, I immediately think of Roy Sullivan. Roy Sullivan, was a man who got struck by lightning seven times and lived each time after getting over very minor injuries (lost toe nail…that sort of thing). Now, common sense would suggest that there was something special about Roy. For some reason, he was more prone to lighting strikes than anyone else on the planet.

    However, the “experts” (Doctors, scientists, researchers, metalurgists, hematologists…) studied him and their finalized opinion was that there was NOTHING unique about Roy Sullivan. They posited that the only reason Roy was struck by lightning seven times was due to his vocation. Roy worked as a Park Ranger and spent a lot of time on patrol in the mountains or on outlook towers. And, yes, such an exposure is likely to increase the odds of being struck by lightning. Except for the fact that he was once struck while sitting on a chair in his backyard. Another time he was struck on the way to the store while driving his pick-up truck. AND, there are thousands of men and women performing the same duties as he did with similar exposure (including co-workers in the immediate vicinity of where Roy worked). None of those folks were hit by lightning. Not even once.

    BUT, all these experts from a multitude of different disciplines agreed to the final conclusion that Roy Sullivan was struck seven times by lightning due only to his job.

    The moral of the story is that “Experts” have no concept of how to say “I just don’t know.”

      I read more and apparently Roy shot himself in the head at 71 years.
      Sounds like he may have thought that it was more than his job situation.
      As for ‘experts’, they are idiots who claim to know a lot about a narrow little piece of the big picture.
      Like Don Henley said, they have a thin grasp of the big picture.

  9. I would love for all existing scholarly works subject to a plagiarism analysis to see what comes up.

    Caution would be needed. Plagiarism algorithms are not perfect. Sometimes they confuse fully credited quotes with plagiarism, or find that a researcher has plagiarized themselves, which in some instances is fine. Or they might get dates confused, confusing just who plagiarized who.

    How many careers would be ended?

    1. That would be fun. I’d put Mr. PhD of Geology, Michael Mann at the top of the waiting list.

    2. This is true, but I forget the name. There was a guy in academia who did a “meta” study of academic publications and concluded that all papers were biased in varying degrees of avoidance of perishing.
      Also found that most academics agreed with who funded them.

      There may have been a time when pre modern universities weren’t bought and paid for, and allowed for the likes of Newton, but since “big” science and Popper’s cautions, it has been a peer reviewed joke.

      Follow the money, the corporate and sundry interests, and the long march.

  10. The Cambridge controversy reminds me of Rush Limbaugh’s laughing fit when actress Julia Roberts righteously proclaimed how proud she was when Denzel Washington won an Oscar. It was as if that moron thought that movie goers did the Oscar voting not the self-righteous progressive actors, actresses, directors…who failed year after year to recognize POC talent. The Cambridge dept head sounded the same as Roberts. A “Cambridge has come a long way…” explanation as if she wasn’t part of the academic cabal that kept the door closed to actually qualified minorities. Pretend virtue signaling to an audience of their equally pretentious peers. Both Hollywood and academia are ripe for the grifting class and it’s fun to watch.

    1. Is there any evidence that they did keep their doors closed to qualified minorities? Maybe they were smart enough to see through bullshit in the past and now they’re blind to it.

    l always enjoyed the learning experience in my adult years, from listening to 100s hours of cassette lectures via Waterloo correspondence sitting in the hallway of the apartment bldg, mid 70s all the way up to 2022 when l gave up senior citizen tuition free history courses because my boy sired a house full of puppies. (one of which Samson l kept, thats him nxt to my handle, most peculiarly 11 out of 11 points of comparison on their coloration *match*).
    to do that now? NO WAY. l wd not be able to sustain silence in the face of their ‘cultural appropriation’ nonsense or ‘gender diversity’ crapola.
