Things just got a whole lot brighter in Canada for the dismal electric-car business. Word has leaked that the country’s largest province is preparing to help buy a plug-in vehicle or hybrid for millions of families across the province — or will at least force those families to buy one. The details of how Ontarians are getting all those green vehicles weren’t clear in the confidential draft version of the Wynne Liberals’ “Climate Change Action Plan” leaked to The Globe and Mail on Wednesday. But the goals are crystal clear: A promise to get 1.7 million low-emission cars on the roads in the next eight years, and pull seven million gas-powered cars off in the next 14.
That’s in addition to making sure 80 per cent of us ride transit or walk or bike to work, and ensuring the majority of the buildings in the province are “emissions-free” by 2050. And to engineer this great, gleaming, green society, the Liberals will create a brand new monopolistic government behemoth, a “new ultra-low-carbon utility” that will have a sweeping mandate to micro-engineer how you get to work, how you heat your home, and how the economy is powered.

Or, there are always elections.

Federal law makes it a felony “for two or more persons to agree together to injure, threaten, or intimidate a person in any state, territory or district in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him/her by the Constitution or the laws of the Unites States, (or because of his/her having exercised the same).”
I wonder if U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Claude Walker, or California Attorney General Kamala Harris, or New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman have read this federal statute. Because what they’re doing looks like a concerted scheme to restrict the First Amendment free speech rights of people they don’t agree with. They should look up 18 U.S.C. Sec. 241, I am sure they each have it somewhere in their offices.

A group of prominent scientists have united for an odd quest: to reduce funding for science education. They’ve joined with environmental groups and progressive activists to demand that hundreds of museums of science and natural history “cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry and funders of climate science obfuscation,” which means rejecting donations or investment dividends from anyone who doesn’t meet their standard of purity.

A correlation study on earthquakes, fracking and waste-water injection.

That doesn’t mean that a lot of wells cause earthquakes. Eaton calculates that about 0.3 per cent of fracked wells create problems.
But there are enough wells drilled for even that tiny fraction to be a concern.

This study, of course, will soon be cited by the same people that say a six percent Muslim population is perfectly safe.

EPA Putting Red Light on Amateur Car Racing;

A “power grab” by the Environmental Protection Agency threatens to crash America’s amateur car-racing industry without putting so much as a dent in climate change, warns the chairman of the House Space, Science and Technology Committee.
The EPA’s move to regulate emissions on non-road racing vehicles contradicted agency administrator Gina McCarthy’s earlier testimony that the EPA did not have authority over non-road race cars and motorcycles.
EPA officials said they are “clarifying” emissions law, yet the Clean Air Act has long exempted non-road vehicles used in competition. The agency has not made a similar move against NASCAR or other professional race circuits.

They know not to mess with the donor class.

Great moments in naiveté: “Insufficient political will”.

A conservative estimate of Canada’s existing carbon-absorption capacity, based on land area and the global carbon-absorption average, indicates that Canada could already be absorbing 20 to 30 per cent more CO2 than we emit. Using the same calculation, the “Big Four” polluters of China, the U.S., the European Union, and India, which together are responsible for a whopping 60 per cent of global CO2 emissions, release 10 times more CO2 than their combined land area absorbs. Canada doesn’t seem very dirty now, do we?
So when was the last time you heard a Canadian political leader, let alone the media, talk about our carbon-absorption capacity? Probably never, because we are currently ignoring that side of the equation, for a couple reasons…

New Democrat leader Dwain Lingenfelter’s promise to get more electricity from wind turbines is being criticized by the Saskatchewan Party.
The party says if elected on Nov. 7, an NDP government will add 400 megawatts of new wind power over four years.
But Sask. Party Leader Brad Wall says there’s a huge hole in the NDP platform because it’s not being costed out.
According to SaskPower planning documents, large wind power projects have capital costs of between $2 million and $3 million per megawatt…
Wall said that’s another example of the NDP making unaffordable promises.
“Are you going to make SaskPower borrow the money? Is it going to come from the general revenue fund? Or are people going to pay higher electricity rates?” Wall asked.
The wind power promise is part of the NDP’s environmental plan to ensure that by 2025, 50 per cent of the province’s electricity is clean, renewable energy.

November 23, 2015:

A plan to generate half of Saskatchewan’s power from renewable sources by 2030 is “ambitious,” but the provincial government insists it can be done.
Days after Premier Brad Wall announced that by 2030, wind, solar and geothermal power would be developed to meet a 50-per-cent renewable target, minister responsible for SaskPower Bill Boyd on Monday said he was “confident SaskPower can meet the target by taking an ‘all of the above’ approach to planning.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) on Monday criticized the Obama administration for its early start of its final review of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule to reduce the allowable concentration of ozone air pollution.
The administration is just now starting the review only one month before a court ordered due date of Oct. 1; the process normally takes 60 to 90 days. API is concerned that the Obama Administration is limiting interagency review of the rule, which could become the most expensive regulation in U.S. history.
The proposed new standards would impose unachievable emission reduction requirements on virtually every part of the United States, including rural and undeveloped areas.
