The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has released its latest reliability assessment for the summer of 2022 and, to put it mildly, the news is not good. In far too many states, the power grid is already nearly at full capacity, and in the next few months, that capacity will be exceeded. This isn’t a question of “if” or really even “when.” It’s just a fact. Industry experts know this and have been trying to sound the alarm for several years. Critics are trying to place the blame on climate change (as they do with everything else) in the form of extended droughts and heatwaves. Those factors definitely exacerbate the problem, but this was going to happen in the next year or so anyway. And thus far, the government has done virtually nothing about it.
I think they’re wrong.

In a run-off to boil a kettle of water (i.e. an old fashioned “quart race”) between a portable solar panel and a traditional fire started with a primitive fire lighter like a bow drill or a flint and steel which do you think would be ready first?
I’d suspect the flint and steel would win on a one go in daylight, without insisting that the competition be run over a realistic time span – early dawn for breakfast, midday for lunch and just on dark for dinner

Parts will be the electric grid downfall along with aging power grids as population growth didn’t add sustainable new energy to compensate. Add another transformer or two when that one blows from too many customers on it..
Our parts are designed to be obsolete or faulty after a period of time.
It’s just plastic in a cold climate that isn’t friendly to freezing cold temperatures.

And I don’t think there is a government that is prepared.
Everything is proceeding according to plan. Just need to shut down a few more coal-fired plants, outlaw a few more homes reliant on gas for heating, hot water, and cooking, push a few more electric cars. Once people get accustomed to intermittent electricity, food shortages, unrepresentative government, and eternal war, they’ll be compliant enough to start the Great Thinning of the Herd, getting rid of the useless eaters.
