Proportionality in war is a synonym for lethal stalemate, if not defeat. – Victor Davis Hanson
Back in January, I attended a talk by Peter Zeihan in which he openly mocked the Russian army for losing so much hardware during the initial invasion of the Ukraine that they were forced to ferry men and material to the front in civilian vans. I have no idea where his information came from, but the reality is that collapse of the Russian war effort is about as imminent as an earthquake in Manitoba.
When the conflict began, I sensed that a WWI stalemate would be the likely outcome. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for mass desertions or mutiny among the Ukrainian forces to completely upend the West’s strategy.
Ukraine’s military chief, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, says in a long essay and interview with the Economist that “just like in the First World War we have reached the level of technology that puts us into a stalemate.”
He acknowledges: “There will most likely be no deep and beautiful breakthrough,” but instead an equilibrium of devastating losses and destruction.
U.S. and European officials have begun quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia might entail to end the war, according to one current senior U.S. official and one former senior U.S. official familiar with the discussions.
The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. Some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives from more than 50 nations supporting Ukraine, including NATO members, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the officials said.

Why fight for an elite that hates you? Here at home, we see normal, traditional Americans dragged through the dirt by a garbage ruling class that wants to castrate our kids, seize our weapons, and lock us out of political participation. When we protest, we’re terrorists – little did we know that it was an assault on Our Democracy for those of us who served and our families to presume to participate in it.
Our service means nothing to them. We are expendable and ignorable, unless we get uppity, and then we get their flunkies’ full attention. We just saw a guy with two Purple Hearts get nearly two decades in prison for a rowdy ruckus on Capitol Hill, a minor scuffle (except for when the government killed an unarmed protester) that was dwarfed in intensity and violence by the Los Angeles riots I helped suppress while in uniform. But our ruling class approved of scumbags like the Los Angeles rioters just like it approves of the BLM and Antifa scumbags who ran rampant across the country in 2020 and killed dozens of people. One of them burned a guy alive, and the Department of Justice, the same one that wants to steal decades of life from veterans for the crime of having dissident political views, actually went to bat for the killer and explained that this arsonist was merely upset by systematic racism or some other garbage. He got just 10 years.

Brian Berletic- As US standards fall, military less trusted
The US military is considered the most trusted institution in America by the American people. It is more trusted than the media, big American businesses, the criminal justice system, and even the elected representatives that make up the US Congress. Despite this fact, trust in the US military itself is in decline, stemming from a variety of reasons and reflecting America’s overall decline as a global superpower.
At least the Wall Street Journal is willing to step back, however tentatively, from the jingoistic cheerleading choir when it comes to the war in the Ukraine. In reality, Ukraine’s inability to control the skies is going to doom any offensive. And there’s no simple or cheap way to rectify that.
Ukraine had hoped to find gaps in Russia’s fortifications, flood troops through, and cause the kind of havoc that its forces achieved last year among enemy ranks. Instead, unexpectedly dense minefields slowed Kyiv’s initial attacking forces, leaving them exposed to strikes from Russian aircraft and rockets.
Russian drones and attack helicopters, particularly Kamov Ka-52 “Alligator” gunships, have proven particularly dangerous. Ka-52s, which are among Russia’s most modern aircraft, can remain far behind Russian lines and rely on targeting data from spotter drones scanning the front. Their laser-guided Vikhr missiles have a range of roughly 5 miles, which is more than twice the range of any portable antiaircraft missiles in Ukraine’s armory.

@ByronYork – In CNN interview, President Biden is not particularly clear but seems to be saying US is sending cluster munitions to Ukraine because we are running out of 155mm artillery ammunition to send them. Seems obvious this is affecting US readiness to defend itself.

The Department of National Defence (DND) is claiming that a senior Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) officer “wasn’t participating” in an Ottawa pro-gender ideology protest alongside far-left Antifa extremists despite videos suggesting otherwise.
Livestream footage shows Engineering Officer Pete Davidson, who is also a Joint Task Force 2 operator, standing in a crowd of masked pro-gender ideology protestors at Friday’s demonstration.
Various clips show Davidson, who is wearing a white tee and shorts, pointing at and shouting at demonstrators who were there to oppose gender ideology in schools. Masked Antifa protestors can be seen in the video nearby holding anarchist symbols and insignia. […]
Davidson’s public LinkedIn profile has since been removed…
At which point, I’m tempted to ask how these target percentages relate to any actual expressed interest or aptitude – say, among school-leavers – or to any tactical utility, according to which an unusually high number of women and racial minorities would somehow confer a military advantage. Or are they, as seems to be the case, entirely arbitrary?

Navy CONFIRMS Drag Queen Ambassador To Improve Recruitment
Hundreds of Army aviation officers who were set to leave the military are being held to another three years of service after they say the branch quietly reinterpreted part of their contract amid retention and recruitment issues.
The shift has sparked an uproar among the more than 600 affected active-duty commissioned officers, including some who say their plans to start families, launch businesses and begin their civilian lives have been suddenly derailed.
“We are now completely in limbo,” said a captain who had scheduled his wedding around thinking he would be leaving the military this spring.
That captain and three other active-duty aviation officers who spoke to NBC News spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation.
Biden on Friday morning announced the U.S. government’s “first-ever Environmental Justice Scorecard,” a “new government-wide assessment of federal agencies’ efforts to advance environmental justice.” Included in the project is the Department of Defense, which Biden will grade on its work to address “environmental, climate-related, and cumulative impacts on communities with environmental justice concerns.”
The department’s first scorecard highlights some of that work. The Navy, for example, organized the traffic flow at one of its docks at Pearl Harbor in a way that “minimizes impacts on historically overburdened communities,” according to the scorecard. The Navy also adjusted a “modernization project” at its Fallon Range Training Complex, which hosts pre-deployment combat training for both air and ground forces, to “respond to several Tribal concerns,” the card says. The scorecard goes on to commend the Department of Defense for hosting “40 internal training(s) for staff on environmental justice” and hiring “at least 640 staff that work on environmental justice,” though it does ding the department for not updating its “environmental justice strategic plan” in the last five years.

A trove of leaked Pentagon secrets included Prime Minister Justin Trudeau privately telling NATO that Canada would never meet the military alliance’s targets for defence spending, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
One document in particular, unsigned and undated, includes that blunt assessment among other “widespread” military deficiencies in Canada that are causing friction with security partners and allies, the newspaper says.
The Post report, published online Wednesday, describes it as a Pentagon assessment and does not include any direct quotes from Trudeau himself, nor many from the document beyond single words.
NATO, for instance, is “concerned” that Canada hasn’t added to its battle group in Latvia. Turkey was “disappointed” by Canada’s “refusal” to help transport aid after an earthquake earlier this year. Haiti is “frustrated” by Canada’s reluctance to mount a security mission.
“Widespread defence shortfalls hinder Canadian capabilities,” the Post quotes the document as saying, “while straining partner relationships and alliance contributions.” […]
Defence Minister Anita Anand rejected any suggestion that allies are expressing concerns about Canada’s contributions, as she prepared to meet with around 50 counterparts this week at the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Germany.

April 7 (Reuters) – Russia or pro-Russian elements are likely behind the leak of several classified U.S. military documents posted on social media that offer a partial, month-old snapshot of the war in Ukraine, three U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday, while the Justice Department said separately it was probing the leak.
They never tire of being lied to.
