How George W. Bush Saved Georgia From Russia

Many do not know that our peacekeeping brigade returned from Iraq to Tbilisi on American military planes which under the circumstances of war was direct military support by the US.
“Many do not know that Russia could not bomb the Tbilisi airport because American Hercules planes were on the tarmac,” Shishkin continues.”Many do not know that the flagship of the US Fifth Fleet which entered the Black Sea monitored on its radars the airspace in the Tbilisi-Moscow-Volgograd triangle.”
And “many do not know that the August 14 Hercules flights from Jordan were accompanied by (American) fighters. Many do not know that the statement of the commander of these fights that ‘any activity of Russian planes in the Georgian sky will be considered an attack on the United States of America,’ thus effectively closing the Georgian sky to Russian planes.”

A Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb For Iran

WaPo editorial board;

Rather than publicly report this departure from the accord, the Obama administration chose to quietly accept it. When a respected independent think tank, the Institute for Science and International Security, began pointing out the problem, the administration’s response was to rush to Iran’s defense — and heatedly attack the institute as well as a report in the New York Times.
This points to two dangers in the implementation of any longterm deal. One is “a U.S. willingness to legally reinterpret the deal when Iran cannot do what it said it would do, in order to justify that non-performance,” institute President David Albright and his colleague Andrea Stricker wrote. In other words, overlooking Iranian cheating is easier than confronting it.
This weakness is matched by a White House proclivity to respond to questions about Iran’s performance by attacking those who raise them. Mr. Albright, a physicist with a long record of providing non-partisan expert analysis of nuclear proliferation issues, said on the Foreign Policy Web site that he had been unfairly labeled as an adversary of the Iran deal and that campaign-style “war room” tactics are being used by the White House to fend off legitimate questions.

Bin Laden Is Dead And Ambassador Stevens Is Dead

ABC News;

A new report released by the U.S. State Department analyzing terrorist attacks reveals a sharp rise in both the number of attacks worldwide and the effectiveness of terror groups to inflict mass casualties.
According to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), the number of terrorist attacks in 2014 increased by 35 percent, while total fatalities increased 81 percent.

A grateful caliphate: ISIS posts photos thanking Obama for ‘spoils of war’
Janes:

The Islamic State can now link its Syrian administrative centre in Raqqa to Homs, and mount attacks from Palmyra in multiple directions. Homs controls access from Damascus to the coastal mountains that are home to the Syrian government’s core Alawite support base. In addition, Palmyra grants the Islamic State access to Hama Province via the Ismaili town of Salamiyah as the group already has a presence in the area. From Palmyra, the Islamic State will probably engage in multiple skirmishes, with the objective of forcing the Syrian government to disperse its forces, exacerbating its overstretch.

Operation Empty Chair

WaPo;

The capital of Anbar province fell to Islamic State militants Sunday as hundreds of police personnel, soldiers and tribal fighters abandoned the city, prompting the Iraqi premier to order Iranian-aligned Shiite militias to join the fight to win back control.
The fall of Ramadi represented a huge victory for the Islamic State and dealt a profound blow to Iraq’s U.S.-backed government, led by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and its military campaign to drive the extremist group out of the war-torn country. Just 24 hours before, officials in Baghdad announced that military reinforcements had been dispatched to defend the city, in Iraq’s largest province, against a brutal assault that began Thursday.
But by Sunday, even the roads to Baghdad, 80 miles to the east, appeared vulnerable to the militant advance.

Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?

Peace Prize Update!

If you’re confused about the Saudi Arabia-led air attacks against Islamist rebels in Yemen and can’t tell one group of head-choppers in Iraq and Syria from another, don’t despair. All you need is imagination.
Close your eyes and imagine that those countries and terrorists have nuclear weapons. Imagine their barbarism going nuclear as they blow up cities, wipe out ethnic and religious groups and turn the region into cinders.
Now open your eyes and realize you’ve seen the future, thanks to President Obama’s policies. It is a future that will be defined by Obama’s Wars. Yes, plural.

Scratch A President

Is he motivated by spite?

It’s as horrifying as watching a train wreck. As predicted in yesterday’s post Obama’s foreign policy has nowhere to go, but he’s prepared to go there with considerable velocity. The New York Times says that Obama will go all out against the Israeli prime minister and may switch sides in the UN on the Palestinian issue.
The administration has reached the stage of pointless self destruction and even Tom Friedman knows it. In a doleful, despairing editorial he says it’s hopeless. Nothing works. Everything has failed. It’s all for nothing. “Have I ruined your morning yet? No? Give me a couple more paragraphs.”

Only partially. Read them both.

Yes.

This.

“This was the clarion call of presidential leadership. People the world over are looking to our president for a sign that we are committed to the fight. What must they think today?”

I’m not by any stretch a religious person. I was raised Christian, “sang” in the choir, was forced to go on Sunday but would have preferred to sleep, etc. I’m sure many relate.
I have been losing my enthusiasim for our southern neighbours for quite some time now. Canada more than fullfilled our commitments for the Afghanistan conflict. We were militarily involved in Iraq but not “politically” involved. This is correct, we’re not the US. We do not have the military to compare to the US.
But, now we’re in Iraq. We’re part of the coalition against ISIL. We need a commitment to carry on. That would be leadership.
That is what has been lacking. Jordan looks like they may go all in, but that may wane. Saudi is a more than likely a “bit” concerned about their southern border and then there is the Sunni/Shai kerfluffle to mix it all up.
Someone needs to be the leader.
Someone needs to work on cleaning up the mess that the US left when “smart diplomacy” wouldn’t get a standing force agreement.
Is that Canada? Could we do it if the US won’t?
