This is a weak article that can be debunked in a matter of a few minutes of research. First off, the claim that Bush’s threats kept the Russians out of Georgian airspace is preposterous if one takes inventory of all of the targets struck within Georgia by Russian aircraft and the fact they lost seven aircraft during the conflict to Georgian air defenses. Shashkin was with IRI before becoming the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance in 2009 so it would be hard to perceive how he would have been privy to any statements made by US military or government officials (the war was in 2008) so he could only be going off hearsay. Indeed, he was only Defense Minister for two months before hastily departing the country when Saakashvili’s government was defeated in 2012.
Bush should be congratulated for his actions but not the revisionist ones claimed by Shashkin. Bush wisely didn’t get drawn into a conflict that Georgia started (as stated by the EU extensive report on the conflict.) Georgia grossly miscalculated that South Ossetia could be seized before Russia could respond. It took five days to conclude the folly of this action.

Georgians had lost their last SAMs to pootinista ground forces on the 11th or 12th, meaning they could not engage any aircraft after that. Hercks landed on the 14th. See how you have debunked nothing?
