The New York Times says that Obama will go all out against the Israeli prime minister and may switch sides in the UN on the Palestinian issue.
The administration has reached the stage of pointless self destruction and even Tom Friedman knows it. In a doleful, despairing editorial he says it’s hopeless. Nothing works. Everything has failed. It’s all for nothing. “Have I ruined your morning yet? No? Give me a couple more paragraphs.”

This ain’t going to end well for the US, Israel and the rest of the world. I see Israel aligning with Russia for the foreseeable future and the Russians having a base in the Mediterranean–once that happens, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Syria will expel their respective US embassies. Imagine, Russian fighters protecting Israeli bombers on their way to Iran.

Russia is in bed with regimes like Iran and Syria. I can’t imagine how Israel gets Russian protection to bomb a Russian ally but hey, the world is getting weirder and more dangerous all the time since the US takeover.
Wouldn’t it be advantageous if Russia were able to “bottle-up” the oil in the Middle East, which would then force everyone on the Eurasian continent to turn to them for oil and gas? Russia has been “allies” with Iran in order to disrupt US hegemony in the area, which is quickly disappearing if not already gone…the only US ally left is Israel. In the end, all Russia wants is the ability to have a sphere of influence. They’re very aware of the craziness known as Islam (through the Chechens)–and I’m going to assume that they’d rather work with a country that can add to their bottom-line with respect to new technologies (Israel) versus countries that are willing to blow the whole world up in order to push their religion. The fact that the USSR never went to war with NATO in almost 50 years shows that Russians want to have a world they can actually enjoy versus one that is dying from nuclear winter and radioactivity.

Iran has been a Russian client state since 1979. Russia sold them the nuclear reactor that is the basis of Iran’s current nuclear weapons program and Russia inked a deal at the end of last year to deliver another 2 reactors to Iran this year.

I don’t even agree with Obama’s sanctions of Venezuela. Yes Venezuela is a despotic corrupt ill-managed disaster, but so are 50 other nations. And Venezuela has punched so many holes in its own hull it’s going down anyway. American help is not needed in that regard. Further, these sanctions increase South Americans’ paranoia over U.S. imperialism.
Wrong. It is entirely about spite. Like every narcissist, Obama cannot stand to be contradicted. And he has been massively contradicted first by Netanyahu himself in addressing Congress and secondly by Israel itself by turning from a split electoral result to a victory for Likud. In so doing, it rebukes him personally in sending his crack election team and his entire policy vis a vis Iran.
The wider context is the massive failure of America’s ME policy everywhere. Iraq sliding into control by Iran, Isis exploding everywhere, shootings in Tunis, chaos in Libya, overthrow of the so-called democratic regime in Egypt, and the necessity of dealing with Bashar al Assad in Syria. Bibi is simply the final affront, and like the small, petty man that he is, he feels the need to hit back however irrational to US foreign policy it may be.

My take is that since Russia has had the same track record of slaughtering Jews as Germany and were killing them in droves just prior to Operation Barbarossa, Russia wanted to let Germany finish the job that they started in Poland. Watch Putin back Obama’s hand at the UN regarding the 2 state solution instead of vetoing it in Security Council as usual. If the opposite happens, I’ll say I was wrong. If Russia does back Obama on bullying Israel in the UN, I’ll expect the same from you.
