The Radical Left’s Latest Tactic

The “Woke” Left has been preparing for this moment and is ready with a serious of effective tactics and slogans:

If you’ve followed the news in recent weeks, you’ll have noticed that the Left’s social-justice brigades have not cooled in their passion for banishing speech with which they disagree. But these days have also revealed a more dangerous tactic: conscripting speech by means of social pressure. Instead of enforcing strict silence, progressives aim to craft a public square in which we are all obliged to echo their views.

It is abundantly clear that social-justice activists — and, increasingly, mainstream left-wing Americans — do not intend to relent in wielding the cultural power of rage mobs to erase all trace of contrary opinions.

In the old days, people could freely debate. But given that the Left argues from the perspective of feelings, not facts, they lost all arguments. So they switched to the tactic of “what you’re saying is hateful, thus you don’t have a right to speak”. But now, in 2020, even that isn’t enough. You now MUST publicly agree with them or fear being canceled and destroyed. Have you noticed how many politicians, senior police officials, and companies have fallen into line so quickly?

Update: Here’s the latest example from Alberta.

So Begins the Great Exodus

A manufacturer in Minneapolis, whose plant was burned down by rioters, will be leaving the city permanently:

A Minneapolis manufacturing company whose plant was set on fire by rioters plans to leave the city, saying that city officials afforded them no assistance in handling the destruction.

“They don’t care about my business,” 7-Sigma Inc.’s president and owner, Kris Wyrobek, told The Star Tribune about Minneapolis public officials. “They didn’t protect our people. We were all on our own.”

If this mayhem is being coordinated, what’s the end goal?

I don’t usually subscribe to conspiracy theories but something very nefarious seems to be happening in the world, especially in America, this year. First there was Covid-19. It came out of Wuhan, China. Not clear if it was accidentally or deliberately released. Not the first time a virus has broken out and definitely won’t be the last. But the reaction to it is like nothing the world has ever seen before. A reasonable person can accept that, early on, many politicians were freaked out and didn’t know what to do. So most imposed lockdowns of their citizens. We were told initially that this was simply to flatten the curve so as not to overwhelm the healthcare systems. Fine. But as the weeks, and then months, passed the messaging changed, as did the timelines. Suddenly it was no longer enough to just flatten the curve. Now we had to wait for a vaccine – that might be available in a year, in 18 months, ever? Massive unemployment occurred, small businesses shut down, most non-Covid-19 healthcare was stopped. A shaming campaign flourished both online and in real life. An army of Karens were empowered over night to scold and report on their neighbours.

Then on May 25th a black man died in the hands of the police. Did he deserve to die? Of course not! Did most people in America and around the world feel terrible for him and his family. Of course! Did the actions of the police cause his death? Only time and a trial will tell. But a video of this event, amplified by the news media, social media, and politicians caused violence and looting and arson to almost instantly erupt all over the country. The Radical Left Antifa members appear to have fanned out across the country to stir this all up well beyond the initial intentions of the protesters. When Antifa was called out for their actions, their comrades-in-spirit in the media insisted that they were completely innocent and all the trouble was being caused by white supremacists. Uh huh.

The Black Lives Matter protests intensified, almost always seemingly surrounded by more violence, looting, and arson. Various politicians and police officers tried to appease them but it was mostly for naught. When asked what tangible changes they were seeking, there was a deafening silence. Then came the calls by “woke” politicians to disband all police departments across America. And replace them with … what??? Then came surreal videos of mostly white Leftists kneeling on the ground before black people, apologizing for their white guilt and begging forgiveness: new levels of cringeyness that we had never seen before!

Have you been able to pause for a moment to view all of this from the 50,000 feet level?  What exactly is going on? First, all of the public was made to feel insanely frightened and overly compliant by a new, unknown virus. Then half of the public was stirred up to feel violently angry, which prompted the other half to very likely feel insanely frightened and bewildered by what appears to be a massive societal revolution taking place; one with a religious-like fervor where there is absolutely no room for dissent.  Even neutrality is no longer an option. Now what’s next?

Expect events this summer to stir up the anger amongst middle of the road and conservative citizens. What recently happened in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho may provide a clue. As does the reaction to the Mayor of Chicago.  What would happen if these law abiding citizens with firearms were prompted to defend themselves in coordinated attacks against them?

Extremely naive politicians such as the Mayor of Minneapolis and the Prime Minister of Canada provide examples of simpletons who think that all citizens are going to sit back and let themselves and their families be harmed, their property and savings destroyed, and their freedoms canceled.  Expect a growing anger from the silent majority.  This will almost certainly be expressed at the ballot box in America in November.  Still much doubt if the Democrats will allow fair elections to occur.  In the “blue” cities and states, where too many sheeple have been infected with Woke-flavoured Kool-Aid, expect a large exodus to smaller communities and redder states.  Change is coming but it likely not what the protestors on the streets right now are expecting.

55 Years of Failure

In his latest column, Dan Henninger details over a half century of failure of Democrat Party policies. Though his column is probably behind a paywall, he discusses it with John Batchelor here.

Simply put, all of the Democrat politicians are locked into a framework of failure. They didn’t invent these policies but did sign up to support them. Even suggesting that any of these policies be altered is a sure recipe for career suicide. The strange thing is why the protestors are demanding change from these absolute policy failures?

UCLA Professor Canceled

Gordon Klein, a UCLA Anderson School of Management professor since 1981, responded to a request for special treatment for black students in the most thoughtful way possible:

Thanks for your suggestion in your email below that I give black students special treatment, given the tragedy in Minnesota [George Floyd’s death at the hand of police].

Do you know the names of the classmates that are black? How can I identify them since we’ve been having online classes only?

Are there any students that may be of mixed parentage, such as half black-half Asian? What do you suggest I do with respect to them? A full concession or just half?

Also, do you have any idea if any students are from Minneapolis? I assume that they probably are especially devastated as well. I am thinking that a white student from there might possibly be even more devastated by this, especially because some might think that they’re racist even if they are not. My [teaching assistant] is from Minneapolis, so if you don’t know, I can probably ask her.

Can you guide me on how you think I should achieve a “no-harm” outcome since our sole course grade is from a final exam only?

One last thing strikes me: Remember that MLK famously said that people should not be evaluated based on “the color of their skin.” Do you think that your request would run afoul of MLK’s admonition?

But Preet Bains, a 4th year climate science student, decided to instigate a lynch mob against Klein. He has now been canceled. Anyone interested might want to follow the career of Mr. Bains.

Hooking their wagons to the Woke Train

The sincere Americans seeking positive change in their country seem not to have realized that the “leaders” they’re following in this “revolution” have taken them down the wrong path, which will ultimately lead to only more bloodshed and frustration. Brendan O’Neill has written a stinging indictment of the BLM movement and its comrades:

Let’s be clear about what is happening here: this is an effort to establish racial collective guilt for the murderous suffocation of George Floyd. There are two problems with this approach. The first is that collective guilt on the basis of racial origin is always a wicked ideology to pursue. Whether it’s Jews being held collectively guilty of the alleged excesses of ‘rich Jews’ or blacks being collectively punished for the offences of individual black people, such racial extrapolation always leads to prejudice and suffering. There is a twisted irony in the fact that so many commentators and activists who pose as anti-racist are promoting the ideology of collective racial guilt in response to the killing of George Floyd.

The second problem with this sweeping anti-white reaction to Floyd’s death, and with the pathologisation of whiteness more broadly, is that it acts as a distraction from the real problems facing the US and other societies. Collectivising the crime committed by four police officers in Minneapolis turns attention away from the specificity of police brutality and of structural disarray in modern America, in favour of pursuing a blanket suspicion of all whites. The problem is dissipated, then obscured. We are implicitly discouraged from seriously analysing specific residual political problems in the United States in favour of joining in the thrill-inducing project of bashing all whites.

O’Neill touches upon why so many major corporations appear to be supporting Black Lives Matter. If you haven’t yet figured out how completely insincere they are, this video clip from Joe Rogan’s podcast explains things in greater detail. Most succinctly, it’s all about Wagging the Dog.

Update: Where is the mob headed?

When will America Hit Rock Bottom?

Years ago I ran a non-profit, all volunteer charity in my hometown of Vancouver. The charity helped several thousand people and one of them was a 40-something woman who was a recovered heroin addict, homeless person, and prostitute. I took the opportunity to ask her a simple question: “Do you remember the event that prompted you to finally turn your life around for the positive?” Her response has stuck with me to this day: “I hit rock bottom. I needed to hit rock bottom to eventually change.” She went on to explain that “rock bottom” means different things to different people. But, for all, it is the pivotal moment that gives them the strength and courage to say “enough is enough” and begin the slow climb upward.

In our 24/7 news cycle, some might think that recent events in America are an aberration, a one-off that the nation will eventually get past. But such problems have been going on for a long time. Back in 1993, the WSJ’s Dan Henninger wrote an editorial called “No Guardrails”. Two days ago he wrote a new piece called “America’s New Nihilism”. Both are explained in detail here.

The recent riots and the Leftist response to them are mere warning signs along the spiralling highway down to the abyss. But make no mistake, the nation as a whole hasn’t yet come close to hitting rock bottom.
