The Covid Lockdown: A Modern Case of Stockholm Syndrome?
In Stockholm, Sweden in 1973, a bank robbery occurred in which there were four hostages. A weird psychological phenomenon transpired whereby the hostages defended their captors afterwards. Ever since, this behavior has been known as Stockholm Syndrome.
Fast forward to 2020/2021. We seem to be witnessing a mass example of Stockholm Syndrome from a sizable portion of the population. It seems that the harsher the totalitarian-leaning politicians lock down their constituents, the more those infected with this syndrome appreciate it. In fact, many of them even become agents for their “captors” by appointing themselves block captains, scolding everyone in sight who doesn’t follow along with the perceived “correct” narrative.
Here’s a story out of Ireland that illustrates this phenomenon. If you’ve noticed the same in your neck of the woods, please do share an example or two. It would also be great if you shared the general area where you reside.

Businesses and governmental entities must ascertain the vaccination status of all personnel. Until a person’s vaccination status is ascertained, they must be treated as not fully vaccinated. Personnel who decline to provide vaccination status must also be treated as unvaccinated. Businesses and governmental entities must complete their initial ascertainment of vaccination status for all personnel within 14 days of the effective date of this Order. Thereafter, they must obtain updated vaccination status for all personnel who were not fully vaccinated every 14 days. Business and governmental entities must maintain appropriate records to demonstrate compliance with this provision.
While HIPAA laws prevent governments from asking about personal health information, the fascists in the Santa Clara Public Health Office think they’re exceptionally clever in skirting around these rules by demanding that companies violate the personal freedoms of citizens.

Reserving academic positions for members of specific racial, ethnic, cultural or other groups is a violation of the merit principle, the principle that academic decisions should be made on academic grounds only. By requiring candidates for academic appointments to possess certain nonacademic characteristics, Wilfrid Laurier will disadvantage promising scholars for no reason related to their academic accomplishments, abilities or promise. Declining to consider on their academic merits all interested and qualified scholars cannot be a sound way to build an excellent faculty.
Taking group membership into account when hiring can have the effect of harming individual scholars because others may see them in stereotypical ways and wrongly undervalue their work. In addition, because scholars want to be valued for the quality of their research, their teaching, and their contributions to intellectual life rather than for their racial or other identity, having them specify their colour or heritage forces them to suppress their dignity or forgo applying. Finally, recruitment based on a non-academic criterion can undermine respect for the ideal of dispassionate inquiry, as summoning people by race or heritage tends to confuse scholarship with advocacy and to create consensus around dogma.
