In Stockholm, Sweden in 1973, a bank robbery occurred in which there were four hostages. A weird psychological phenomenon transpired whereby the hostages defended their captors afterwards. Ever since, this behavior has been known as Stockholm Syndrome.
Fast forward to 2020/2021. We seem to be witnessing a mass example of Stockholm Syndrome from a sizable portion of the population. It seems that the harsher the totalitarian-leaning politicians lock down their constituents, the more those infected with this syndrome appreciate it. In fact, many of them even become agents for their “captors” by appointing themselves block captains, scolding everyone in sight who doesn’t follow along with the perceived “correct” narrative.
Here’s a story out of Ireland that illustrates this phenomenon. If you’ve noticed the same in your neck of the woods, please do share an example or two. It would also be great if you shared the general area where you reside.

First question to answer is, “Who are the bank robbers and who are the hostages?”
Been saying this for months. State Induced Stockholm Syndrome that is going to affect a whole generation plus has all the border line nut cases on board just like Jim Jones and his Jungle Cult.

Lotta people think bad boys are cool. It’s why the Altamont organizers hired the Hells Angels to provide security.
No need to provide examples. The local media here has already pushed this notion with the use of “person-on-the-street” interviews where people are now expressing the need to “extend current lockdowns if it will prevent future lockdowns.”
Of course, we all know that is a lie. My local pastor lamented his disappointment when it was announced that there would be no relief from the current stay-at-home orders due to expire on June 2nd. Churches will remain either closed, or only open to no more than 10% capacity. The province instead plans to extend the lock-down under the guise of a “plan” to open up the province, which in reality is a plan to extend the current lockdown even further.
Of course, that plan hinges on the “carrot” of hitting the magic marker of 75% vaccinated (1st dose), and of hospitalizations going down.
Once again, the tyrants moved the goal posts, and they’ll do it again. Now, the idea is to “motivate” businesses to enforce proof of vaccination (vax passports) if they want to re-open… in mid-August! They don’t realize that many small businesses won’t make it until then, and I don’t think they really care about that, because it serves their purposes for the great reset!
I’ve read on online message boards (based in the US) of people who proudly say they will ask complete strangers whether or not they’ve been vaccinated (somehow I don’t think they’re asking politely). Said people then take umbrage if other posters tell them it’s inappropriate to do so and none of their business. They consider it their business to be the vaccination police because “science” and everyone needs to get vaccinated and you’d better not be walking around unvaccinated and maskless and risking other people’s lives and all of that.
I’ve also seen on other message boards, both of the local variety and with much broader readership, where people will gang up and attempt to drive out other posters who don’t agree with their approved narrative, which is usually whatever the government is saying at the time. It truly astounds me how people keep saying “trust the science” when if you look at what the “science” has been the past year and a half it’s remarkably contradictory, but you all knew that already.
And personally, getting into an elevator I’ll sometimes hear the phrase from someone else in the elevator, “Don’t worry, I’m vaccinated” while they’re still wearing a mask.
All that to say that masks are still a touchy subject.
Just as people are being harassed about not being poisoned–er, vaccinated–I was hassled last year for claiming an exemption from wearing a mask by my fellow “citizens” in certain establishments.
When I didn’t react with something like, “Oh, thank you for reminding me. I’m just so grateful that you’re concerned about my welfare,” and instead was considerably less polite about telling them to mind their own business, I was the one threatened with expulsion for not being “respectful”. Never mind that they started poking their nose in my affairs without being asked to and that what they did constituted invasion of privacy.
Nope. I didn’t run with the herd and didn’t move in lockstep with everyone else. I had to be singled out, and publicly shamed and threatened.
Shoot back and ask the person inquiring
” Do you do ANAL”??
OR
” Have the results of your herpes test come back yet”?
Ask me a personal question I will shoot back with these gems.
Sit back and watch the look on their face
“None of your fucking Business” I will say to them.
Snort! Best reply I have read in a long time!!!
Dispatch from Ontario: All the liberals in my life (mostly urban Torontonian millenials) expressed newfound respect for Premier Ford’s leadership during the pandemic.
Of course, they won’t re-elect him, and he’s also losing his base, Heaven help us if Horvath swoops in.
That woman is a stupid fucking asshole.
Well said.
Buddy, exactly!
You have summed it up, sir.
Yes, I agree too.
She’s like nails of a chalkboard with no positive suggestions.
She sounds like the Rachel Notley of Ontario.
I know of people having a neighbour from a few doors down come and bang on their door demanding to know who’s strange vehicle is parked out front. It belonged to the cleaning ladies!!
Spruce Groove in Freedom loving Alberta!
Why people need to start owning big nasty looking rotti’s. Let the Rotti answer the door.
Am I vaccinated? Yes. Tetanus, measles, mumps, and rubella, but don’t blame me for your lack of specificity.
Did I get the covid vaccine? Look at my face, you can see my mouth – make your own conclusions.
There’s many things going on – some people afraid to leave the slower pace of life, as well as all the “rule nazis” – the snot nosed kids who would turn in anybody else not following the rules to a T on the playground, only now they’re all grown up.
And often the rule nazis are the people who don’t have to worry about feeding the family vs. paying the mortgage, whether it’s due to a steady paycheck while they’ve been working from home, receiving benefits like Social Security, well-off, etc.
I recall how by this time last year a bunch of places in the US, including some major cities, had set up special hotlines, often voicemail boxes, for people to call to rat out others running afoul of the “rules” because the emergency lines were being plugged up. Responding to those calls was largely a non-priority.
I can’t stand people at the best of times. Supercilious, judgemental a-holes. Ontario, right? 6 feet is my normal personal space. I’m pretty happy to have them staying 6ft away from me all on their own. 10 feet would be better, but I’ll take what I can get. Anything that gets them out of my face is A-ok.
That said, there are many nutjobs in the world, and you can “prove” almost any proposition just by cherrypicking nutjob tweets on the subject. At least at re-opening the nutjobs will self-identify, and I can add them to my list of people that need to get off my lawn.
I think you need to get this t shirt.
https://www.tshirthell.com/funny-shirts/social-fistancing/
And I think I do as well.
Actually it’s 2 meters which is 6′ 6″. Ask them to step back just a little more. 🙂
If they’re really annoying make sure they are between you and traffic when you ask.
I live in a retirement community, a trailer park really, and one of my neighbors asked me “When did you get your vaccination,” I replied I am not getting one. She started ranting and raving that everyone else up here has gotten a vaccine and that my refusal would put their lives at risk, so I went on to explain to her one: It’s not a vaccination, two: the entire community’s health is not my responsibility and three: I am prone to nasal blood clots, that shut her up. I am sick to death of the vaccine crowd acting like they donated a kidney to protect the entire country. Do not get me started on the face mask fanatics, those people are deluded lunatics if they think a piece of paper or fabric stops a virus.
I just tell people that I am in the control group of this experimental vaccine.
I said that to a friend a few days ago when he asked if I had been vaxxed yet and he didn’t get it. I followed up with “Not yet”
I haven’t had anyone harass me about my covid vaccination status. My family and friends already know my thoughts on this and accept my decision. Frankly, who gives a damn about what other people think. My body, my choice. Don’t feel you need to explain your choice.
BTW, at what point did I agree that I have any obligation to get a medical treatment for the “greater good”. There’s a lot of things I’m willing to voluntarily do for my fellow citizens welfare but injecting an experimental vaccine with serious adverse reactions and no long term safety data for a disease with very little risk for me isn’t one of them. Simply understanding there is no such obligation frees you from social pressure and guilt.
Nobody has bothered me about “vaccines” yet, but if they do I’ll just remind them that social distancing keeps them safe. (Sure it does. Princess Tam said so.) Anyone that rude does not deserve anything else.
If they’re close enough to question you about “vaccines” then they’re much too close.
Also (and this is something that leads me to think an awful lot of Karens are awfully stupid) if a person has had their “vaccine”, that means they are Covid-proof. (Supposedly, anyway.) They can’t catch it anymore. Right? So if they got theirs, it does not matter at all if you had yours. You could be stuffed to the gills with WuFlu and they will be just fine.
Anyone so stupid they get that basic logic wrong, I’m pretty happy if they self-identify. Then I’ll know to watch out for them.
Rose, I said the following to my wife a while back. I hope everyone who is terrified of this flu gets it and dies, so I can get on with my life. Well, she said what a cruel thing to say. I said, not really, as 99.8% of them will not die and realize this was a whole load of bullshit. People will die, mostly us old folks, me, I am immune, I will die eventually but not from the whu who flu. I am already older than the so called danger zone. By the way, I finally have a golf game booked for tomorrow. Still walk 18 and carry half a set of clubs, no cart, no pull cart.
You hit it right.
Start foaming at the mouth and and acting like a zombie and say I got the vaccine and I don’t know why but I crave blood now
All you have to do is read letters to the editor in Calgary Herald.
Don’t want to call them useful idiots, though they are some derivative of that.
Most Post Media employees are all on board. Responses to letters in the Sun are all pro-lockdown and microchipping.
Somebody asks me if I’m vaccinated I’m going to ask them if they work for the government.
If they say no, I might answer. And I might answer truthfully.
If so I’ll ask them if they’re asking on behalf of the government. If they say no I’ll tell them that it’s illegal to ask about someone’s medical status just as it is their sexual orientation.
If they say yes I’ll ask them to provide me with their mandate to ask me, who their supervisor is, what department they work for, you name it.
The census had only a few questions.
Every single one to do with sexual orientation or language.
Embarrassing country ya got here.
All Liberals?
More BS excusing Brown Shirts and Maolings.
The two news outlets I follow, the Portland Press Herald (ME) and the Boston Globe (MA), have both reported similar concern stories. As someone above says, these stories usually feature an interview with some local person or other, often a woman. Being out and about as I am, and talking with friends and family, I don’t get the idea that people are concerned about the elimination or relaxing of the restrictions. Purely anecdotal, but we had a neighborhood block party for a couple of hours last night. No masks and the overwhelming idea was: thank god it’s over, we can get back to pre-Covid normal behavior.
I’m looking forward to the restrictions ending. At church yesterday the attendance may have been higher than current guidelines. Mask wearing was roughly 25% (if you aren’t too picky in defining “mask” and “wearing”). Everyone has had enough of regulations. (Some have gotten the vaccine, quite a few are taking ivermectin).
At the same time, I think many of us are in no hurry to resume the pre-pandemic pace. One exception is that many people will be more outspoken and more politically active.
I live in a rural and mostly conservative community in the northern parkland in Manitoba. About half the folks are treaty status. Very few people observe the lockdown rules. We had one “snitch” in town. Several people snitched on her when she let grandchildren from Winnipeg visit and it’s been quiet ever since. They are using the cell phones to track people even if they say they aren’t as folks have been getting phone calls wondering why they are not at home if they are out hunting or fishing. A lot of the people are vaccinating because they are afraid of the virus and getting the vaccine has been easy at the nearby reserves but for the most part people are minding their own business. Common advice often shared is “don’t get tested unless you absolutely have to so the numbers go down and we can get out of lock down.” Our numbers have been remarkable low. There’s been a run on horse ivermectin. Bad parasite year for horses, eh? People are mostly ignoring the edicts from on high, as we country folk typically do about most things government. I have been asked a few times if I have had the vaccine. I always reply with “Have you?” and then let them tell all about the glories of the stuff and they forget about getting my reply. If they persist I just say no. If they ask why I reply “I’m a scientist and I know the science. I probably will eventually but right now I’m waiting for a while until there are enough people without side effects who’ve had it so I feel it’s safe.” That usually ends the conversation.
How is this any different from the Soviets who felt a need to explain their undying love of the Party and rat out even their own family members?
Everything old is new again.

It happens inside the church as well:

Except that the churches being shut down forever is taking a longer time here.
Well, I reported an incident last week.
I mentioned that I had no problem with the rodeo in Bowden to a neighbour in the summer place. He had a meltdown and told me I was selfish and needed to start caring about others. The next night he held an “illegal” gathering a his place of 6 (possibly 8) persons (Kenny’s max is 5).
I spent several hours this afternoon fixing something in my truck’s canopy.
I saw a number of my fellow tenants getting in and out of their cars during that time. I was floored when I saw that the majority of the ones I had seen were–wait for it!–wearing masks inside their vehicles….. Inside…. a motor vehicle….. well away from other people….. not just 2 metres but with a visible physical barrier in between them and the outside…..
As is often said on SDA, you can’t fix stupid.
At an ice cream store in a small town north of Toronto yesterday. Mask signs everywhere, but half the people inside weren’t wearing one, so I took off the one I’d donned to enter.
“Karen”, a dumpy middle-aged woman, pear-shaped, white haired, thick glasses, pipes up: “Why isn’t he wearing a mask?” pointing at me. I have decided to become intransigent. “Are you afraid of catching it? Then stay home” I said to her. Then, I started mocking her. “You’re scared aren’t you? So scared, you’re so scared!”. Karen starts blustering how she’s not scared but I’m going to kill people. I’m about to respond when the owner’s wife (also maskless) comes in, and tries to calm things down. She says “If you want to wear a mask, wear one, if you don’t, don’t. He’s not hurting anybody.” I look at her, nod, and put my hands up – I’m not going to press the issue. Karen doesn’t want to stop though, as she moves ahead to order her double-scoop cone. “Sure, do what you want. Why don’t we just walk down the streets shooting off guns?”. I’m about to fire back, but I look at the owner’s wife again, roll my eyes, and walk out.
But that’s the level of intelligence we get – Covid is the same as walking down the street blasting away. And Karen will miss it when she doesn’t get a chance to anonymously – she was hiding behind her mask – berate people for not living according to her fears.
