A lengthy read for those looking to sit back and relax and mock faux rich folk who caused the housing crisis and successive global economic recession.
And a short funny haha. It actually goes a long way in explaining why it is the Chinese who are really bailing out this economy.
A Lesson in Malthusian Economics
Normally applied to the 4th grade science project of watching fruit flies overpopulate and then deplete their food source, how is it any different in the Western world of entitlement?
Today’s word is “Malthusian Catastrophe!”
“How Much for that Degree in the Window?”
“Out of 92 students, 89 had plagiarized.”
And they were still allowed to pass.
A vodka martini-deserving account of the “progressively” deteriorating educational standards in America.
(my apologies if I posted this before, but I didn’t see it in any of the archives).
Conservative Canadian Coup de Tat
Why Americans should consider moving to Canada.
And why Canada should let them.
Ignorance at Bars
Since the story is about ignorance at a bar, I feel compelled to mandate you pour yourself a nice drink before reading.
I prefer a Fat Dachshund; 3 parts vodka, 1 part Baileys, 1 part white creme de cocoa. Trust me, it’s really good.
Deficit?
It’s probably the Libertarian in me, but I’m afraid there’s
a hard line about a spending deficit. The line for me is that at
no time, ever, should a gov’t spend more than it takes in.
Prime Minister Harper cut taxes and for that I thank
him. Having said that, no one should confuse the GST tax-cut
as a means to reduce the burden on tax-payers. In reality it
was to reduce gov’t revenues to handicap the Liberals. Good
strategy, easy sell, obvious advantages. The down-side of
the cuts though is that there is less revenue. Less revenue
without a corresponding change in spending means that a
deficit is a real possibility.
It’s time to stop the spending. The last budget increased
spending like there was no tomorrow. There were no cuts,
regardless of the opinion of artists, that money they whined
about was “shifted”, not saved.
It’s time to be conservative again.
So, aside from the obvious: HRC, CBC, Wheat Board,
military, what other areas can the Conservative gov’t cut to
get out of the red?

Sask Party, Feminists
Yesterday the Saskatchewan Gov’t announced the members of the Enterprise Saskatchewan Entrepreneurship Council. A truly impressive list of accomplished people. I do suggest reading their bios. (PDF, 2pp.)
Now when I was reading that, a filament of memory was electrified and I just had to do a check and see if there had been an update or not.
Nope.
Maybe the B&R crowd has something? Hmm, no.
Odd. I would have thought that when six of ten seats on the council go to successful and influential women the various feminist blogs and forums would be trumpeting their success.
I guess I was wrong.

The largest single-year income tax reduction in Saskatchewan history
Premier Brad Wall today announced:
– the largest single-year income tax reduction in Saskatchewan history;
– the largest amount of debt reduction in Saskatchewan history; and
– the largest investment in infrastructure in Saskatchewan history, while still maintaining a $1.9 billion cash balance in the Growth and Financial Security Fund.
“Our government is delivering a plan to lower taxes so that everyone will share in the benefits of Saskatchewan’s prosperity,” Wall said. “Today’s announcement benefits every income tax filer in Saskatchewan – even those who pay no income tax currently.”
It’s good to be in Saskatchewan!

Fighting over the carrion
The headliner is Rae vs. Ignatieff, but the real action is the first fight of the night in the Liberal light-weight category.
Goodale vs. McCallum promises to be a barn-burner!
Goodale, a 185 lb farmer from Regina-Wascana will go up against former bank financier McCallum at 175 lbs. The trainers are predicting a good fight and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser in the lead up to the main event.
Ralph has to keep McCallum on the outside and connect with one of his patented outrages. John on the other hand needs to get in quick and mumble something about the economy.
It’s sure to be a great night Ladies and Gentlemen, enjoy and don’t forget to pick up some popcorn at the concession.

“The wireless isn’t working”
Kate’s away again, so on her behalf I’ll invite the guest bloggers to feel free to post on SDA.
I must admit though, I’m somewhat jealous of our colleagues in the Saskatchewan Dipper blog-o-sphere. Calvert announced that he was done as NDP leader tonight, so they’ll have all sorts of political mischief to make in the next little while.
It hasn’t started yet . . . but once they get over the ass-kicking the NDP got in Saskatchewan on Tuesday, good places to visit are probably going to be: Sean in Saskatchewan, Giant Political Mouse, Accidental Deliberations, and the ULTRA LEFT WING!!! Buckdog.
I’m not so jealous of the Libloggers who will soon have the same opportunity. The grassroots and the establishment are set to have one big brewhaha. The fall-out isn’t going to be pretty and the grassroots are going to lose.
Just remember Liberals, at or about 10 am on the Saturday morning of your “good for TV” convention, while your 20 year old delegates where sleeping off their hang-overs, the few who bothered to show up for policy votes declined one member one vote.
That’s why the establishment feels free to cut the leader. That’s why they don’t care about you. You told them it was okay for cliques and divisions in the party. You told them that delegate voting was the right thing. You abdicated your responsibilities to your party.
You remember that when you’re whining about those “senior Liberals”.
The 40th Parliament
Some rather disjointed thoughts after yesterdays election.
There’s a lot of anguish in the media and on the leftward leaning blogs about yesterday’s voter turn-out. PR is raising it’s ugly head, strategic voting was hailed as the saviour for the left and failed.
Woo, big surprise. Reminds me of the right during the 90’s. Here’s a hint to the left; appeal to the dedicated voter demographics or get them to be dedicated voters.
In my opinion, anyone thinking that Harper “lost” last night because he didn’t get a majority is wrong. At the outset, majority was best case, stronger minority was middle case and reduced minority was worst case. The Prime Minister said that. He met with all of the leaders to try and argue the case for the last parliament.
The results of those meetings was a resounding, “No.” Harper said, “Fine.”, and we went to an election. That became one of the first (of many) Martin campaign parallels, Dion had previously all but promised a fall election and PM Harper pre-empted him.
Your Debate thread
For up-to-date info, I’d suggest The Corner. I’m sure that Glenn Reynolds will have something going on too.
Throw any suggestions for Debate links into the comments. Remember, one beer per “uh…uh” from Obama.

So much for that Liberal meme
The Finance Department reported Friday the government took in $1.7 billion more than it spent in July, bringing the surplus for the first four months of this fiscal year to $2.9 billion.
When even Danny Williams….
…gives you the cold shoulder, you know the dream is dead.
The Hack asks GPC members if they think she’s helping their party.
Political Staples wonders who picked September 24th as the day May would throw her party under the bus.
Now, what about that GPC-LPC alliance that was downplayed, vociferously denied and indignantly shot down by GP bloggers? I guess advocating that your supporters vote for someone else (cough, Dion) doesn’t really count, eh?
Elizabeth May, activist . . . sometimes politician.

Guilty
So it now stands to reason that anyone who has been throwing their support behind a now convicted terrorist is now a full fledged terrorist supporter (Aly Hindy, the head of Scarborough’s Salaheddin Islamic Centre as an example). For the other ten in waiting it doesn’t bode well for them either.

The Mouse, the Frog, and the Hawk
A mouse and
a frog struck
up a friendship. They were not well mated, for the mouse
lived
entirely on land, while the frog was equally at home on
land or in
the water. In order that they might never be separated,
the frog tied himself and the mouse together by the leg with
a piece of thread. As long as they kept on dry land all went
fairly well; but, coming to the edge of a pool, the frog
jumped in, taking the mouse with him, and began swimming
about and croaking with pleasure. The unhappy mouse,
however, was soon drowned, and floated about on the surface
in the wake of the frog. There he was spied by
a hawk,
who pounced down on him and seized him in his talons. The
frog was unable to loose the knot which bound him to the
mouse, and thus was carried off along with him
and eaten by
the hawk.

That BC Game
Thoroughly enjoyed myself at the BC-Riders game on Saturday night. It was a bit chilly with the wind, but not that bad.
BC defence dominated us. Good on them. The Riders, injuries or not, have to play better. Coaching has to be better. Play-calling has to be better. I don’t understand the decision to kick with a minute and change left. Our defence was outstanding, but come on, play to win!
To the fan who threw a beer can at the Lions, you’re a loser. You are a complete and utter drunken fool and you should be charged, named, ridiculed and banned.

Ron Passes
NewsTalk 650 is reporting that Rider great, Head Coach and broadcaster Ron Lancaster has passed his last yard.
Good-bye Ron. God bless.
You were one of the football gods.
My prayers to your family.
TSN has the ugly news.
Forget Danny, we’ve got Wall.
So the other day
the Premier
released figures stating that the Liberal Green Shaft
would cost users of SaskPower (everyone) an extra $230 a
year.
Goodale questioned the figures. Fortunately for Ralph, Bob
Rae was in town and he took the role of attack dog calling
out the Premier.
“Premier Wall better just be ready for it. If he’s going
to get in as a leader of the Sask. Party and get into a
partisan debate, then he can expect the same in return. If
he wants to get into the ring, he should get into the
ring, and we’ll take him on,” Rae added.
And there ladies and gentlemen is the difference between the
Liberals and the CPC. Prime Minister Harper in Newfoundland and
Labrador limited his comments about Danny to, “He’s only
one vote.”
It would appear that Premier Wall is quite fine with being
called out.
Premier
Equates Green Shift To NEP.
I guess Bob Rae is too busy trying to keep his leader from
putting both feet in to come
to Ralph’s
aid today.
Update: The Star Phoenix story:
“If we could build a time machine and go back in time before the National Energy Program . . . if you asked Mr. (Peter) Lougheed this question or others involved in politics at the time, maybe Mr. (Allan) Blakeney, if they could go back and try to draw attention to the fact that this particular policy would not just harm the West but harm the country’s economy, people would take that chance, people would want to be proactive with respect to that policy. I think we ought to be on this.
“We ought to be saying very clearly to the people of Saskatchewan, here are the impacts of all of these initiatives,” he told reporters outside his legislature office.
