On 24 October 2019, B.C.’s left-wing New Democratic Party (NDP) government enacted the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), requiring the government to take “all necessary measures” to ensure its laws are consistent with UNDRIP. British Columbia thereby became the first jurisdiction on the planet that not only endorsed UNDRIP in the abstract (as Trudeau and other national leaders had done) but actually cemented its guarantees into law. In 2021, the province added a further legislative amendment explicitly requiring that “every Act and regulation must be construed as being consistent with UNDRIP.”
Behind the scenes, then-Premier John Horgan and his cabinet were assuring legislators that the law would simply ensure that B.C. took advice and guidance from Indigenous groups. But as judges (predictably) concluded, that’s absolutely not what the law says.

If you “own” land in B.C. (especially lake front), you should think deeply about whether you want to continue to hold it or dump it before your title disappears.
Too late. No sane people buying any real property in B.C. right now.
Note: sure wish the login system would actually remember me and quit logging me out.
My boss just bought holiday property in BC after he had to sell the one in Montana due to property tax increases. I inquired as to how he felt about the political situation in BC prior to him writing the cheque. He noted he wasn’t concerned…

Advice and guidance from grifters who can’t handle water treatment plants
This! In spades.
There is a simple solution; namely for all government laws, regulations, agreements, permits, maintenance repairs, etc. to require approval from all of the following:
– all BC First Nation band councils
– all BC First Nation hereditary chiefs
– all BC First Nations elders
(I say all because land claims overlap, and what happens in one area could affect other areas)
Also First Nation approvals from Alaska and Washington state will be required.
And the U.S. State Department must also sign off because the rights of the United States might be affected.
Similarly the government of Mexico and the Aztecs must approve (Aztecs had to traverse this land and were once indigenous to this land).
Next, provincial, state, and federal judges must approve all of the original items, plus approve that all of the approvals from First Nations etc. were properly obtained, and full environmental assessments were done for each permit, project, repair etc.
In addition, all correspondence and documentation must be done in English, as well as in each of the First Nations languages.
Finally the UN must approve.
Hey First Nation, got a pot hole that needs fixing? All of the above must be done before repairs can commence.
It’s called malicious compliance.
No group does suicidal empathy better than the NDP with the possible exception of Judges. David Betts, in his prediction of civil war in the UK, postulates that Judges are some of the first groups targeted when the SHTF. I can understand that.
I would almost feel sorry for David Eby if I didn’t know so much about him from his days as an ambulance-chasing poverty pimp in the Downtown Eastside. Almost.
I thought maybe after the humbling experience of very nearly losing the last provincial election he might consider making some meaningful changes….but no.
Hi Joey B,
Why do you think living on a lake could be even worse?? – (cos we DO live on a lake in BC!!!)
I worked in the pipeline industry for many years and we avoided coming close to lakes for the simple reason the “First Nations” claimed that they would take their sick down to the lakeshore to heal (or die) and so lakeshores were the burial places for those who died and the areas were “sacred” for healing.
The only person speaking out truth for B.C.’ers is Dallas Brodie, of the OneBC Party.
I’d pay to see the Chief’s reactions if Dallas were Premier. An honest politician is as rare as hen’s teeth and she appears to possibly be one.
Dallas Brodie….hmmm…
While I agree with her criticism on the Kamloop thing, I am dubious about her being an honest and credible leader.
She and Tara Armstrong broke away from the Cons, formed OneBC, had a catfight, got kicked out, then reinstated and reconciled with Tara, but the 2 man board quit, etc. Sounds like they had a bad foursome moment.
By the way, Dallas did a stint as a CBC producer, and did social warrior law on landlord/tenant and yute legal aid.
In short, and to repeat, I am dubious about her and Tara Armstrong (my MLA, whom I voted for as a Con).
Besides, the legion of lefties in BC have painted OneBC as being akin to Max the the PPC.
All imperfect voices that will remain in the wilderness of socialist Chinada.
Yes, I am an optimist.
Have a nice day, and, hey, Canada Strong, eh??
“The only person speaking out truth for B.C.’ers is Dallas Brodie, of the OneBC Party.”
She’s got my vote next time around.

FILTHY LIBERALS
The Ontario Landowners are the experts on issues such as these. In most of Canada Our original Crown Grants were the first purchase of that Crown Land by a settler. Once some conditions were met, this land became Patented to become your Crown Land Patent.
This is your root of title. Mine is from 1883, which ties my land to the original 1860 layout of our township. Hold your idiot Council accountable. Learn. Read, preserve our rights.
I don’t have any sympathy.
BC Sheeple are getting what they voted for.
Getting it good and hard.
Let’s be clear, less than half deserve this, many of them renters. That’s the number of morons that continue to support the radical NDP ideologues.
The rest of us continue to despise and loathe those communist trotskyites. We rejoice at their internal strife and division over this issue, as there appear to be cabinet members that see the anger from home and landowners over UNDRIP. Of course, they were ignorant until the poll numbers dropped sharply.
We will see who the next leader of the Cons is and how this goes. Best choice is KLF, a true conservative. She has been outspoken about renouncing UNDRIP.
Elliott would be a compromise, despite what she has said recently, she is a native sympathizer, based on her history. A huge mistake, as would be Milobar and Black. Fullmer? Well, he did land acknowledgements as head of Cap College, need we say more?
I basically agree, but do you think your vote counts?
I think my vote is counted. That’s as far as I dare go.
When do you suppose the lawsuits from those who were previously landowners start up against every government in the land? After all, those governments allowed purchase of lands without apparent title or right to do so, sounds like a ruinously expensive class action to me. Plus they collected property taxes improperly from people who were not actually landowners for how many years?
I live in Toronto. I do not know anyone who owns land in British Colombia. Who cares? These capitalist vermin should be taxed to pay for public transit in Toronto. We need more escalators.
Does anyone indeed own land in British Columbia anymore? Owning land is so 20th century. We need to be progressive. The clock of history is ticking. Or dripping, depends on the clock.
I see you’ve had a Daliance with surrealism.
