Just this week;

The NDP’s environmental platform includes:
* By 2025, 50% of the electricity grid will be clean, renewable energy
* Investing in research and development to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
* Grants for homeowners to use solar hot water and space heating systems.
* Reducing emissions 38% below current levels by 2020, and 80% by 2050.
* Improve municipal recycling programs with better funding.
* Increasing net-metering payments and buy-back rate incentives for green energy production.

Just this week:

* Spain announced a 40% reduction in its wind power subsidy.
* The European Commission’s energy department is questioning the wisdom of its go-it-alone global warming policies, citing loss of economic competitiveness.
* The British government pulled the plug on its budget-bending carbon capture and storage facility. That’s where carbon dioxide from the combustion of coal is pulled out of the exhaust and sent back into the ocean floor. It sounds expensive and fanciful, and it is.
* Japan announced it is reconsidering its plan to cut carbon dioxide by 25% in the next 8 years. Minister Nobutani, of the Global Environmental Affairs Office stated that “Japan’s wealth has been draining out” in its attempt to meet the target.
* The price of carbon credits—what you buy as a “permit” to emit—has dropped off the table because the Greek and Italian (and soon, Spanish) crises are crashing the European economy. No one needs to buy a permit to emit carbon dioxide when the factory is down.

In Egypt, a guy gets three years hard labour for insulting Islam.
Next door In Libya, the “transitional leader” (transitional? hardy har har) declares that:

Abdul-Jalil laid out a vision for a new Libya with an Islamist tint, saying Islamic Sharia law would be the “basic source” of legislation and existing laws that contradict the teachings of Islam would be nullified.
He outlined several changes to align with Islamic law, including putting caps on interest for bank loans and lifting restrictions on the number of wives Libyan men can take. The Muslim holy book, the Quran, allows men up to four wives.

Next door in Tunisia, the Islamist party Ennahda is expected to win the most votes, though it is not clear if it will gain a majority.
If we had a ‘…’ Spring and deposed of the secularist dictatorship here in Canada could we marry four women and throw the anti-Christians in jail too?

Last week,

… the night before Peladeau’s testimony to Parliament, the CBC freaked out.
In an unprecedented move, it issued what can only be called an attack ad against Peladeau. It wasn’t a news story. It was a false and defamatory attack on our company, as vengeance for our questions about how the CBC spends taxpayer money.
If any other government department had done something like this, whoever responsible would be fired immediately. It wasn’t just unprofessional. It wasn’t just outside of its mandate of what it is given its government money for. It was an attempt to destroy a private-sector competitor.

Just when the eurozone governments thought it could not get worse for Europe’s single currency, it did.
Shell-shocked EU finance ministers meeting in Brussels on Saturday were already reeling from the worst Franco-German rift for over 20 years and a fractious failure to resolve the problems that have brought Greece, and the euro, close to the brink.
But then a new bombshell hit as a joint report by the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that, without a default, the Greek debt crisis alone could swallow the eurozone’s entire €440 billion bailout fund – leaving nothing to spare to help the affected banks of Italy, Spain or France.
