    One of the enlightened states ” We’re not going to leave this place unless we are dragged out,” he said. “I’m going out in a body bag or stay ’til they bring the government down.”
    I say,”If I had a rocket launcher,some sob would get his wish”.

  12. Quite apart from the Vatican’s own financial/corporate situation, about which I know very little, it’s clear that Pope Benedict has no clue when it comes to economics. It certainly isn’t a moral message that he’s sending with this latest ludicrous pronouncement.

  24. I guess everyone here expected the RC’s to back Obama’s buy out of the banks? This is not about the losers camped out on Wall Street, it is about the banks paying you 1% on your pittance and charging big time for loans. About the unions being given a free hand, and the working poor getting the boot. The largest charity in the world is Catholic Charities, and if you want a church that backs banks and other financial institutions, you might look elsewhere. By the way, where is G’Daffy’s billions? Why in banks, of course!

Larben (9:17): By what stretch of the overly-obedient imagination can one deem the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace’s call for “the redistribution of wealth…and the establishment of a ‘central world bank’ to which national banks would have to cede power” – a central world bank that would “have ‘universal jurisdiction’ over governments’ economic strategies” – to be either anti-union or anti-Obama? The Obama administration, which is inordinately, violatively pro-union at the expense of private enterprise, has expressed support for the OWS protesters, and so has the Vatican’s Pontifical council.
    Here’s my straight-up question for you: Do you, as a Catholic, support the VPCJP’s call for redistribution of wealth and the establishment of a central world bank that would have ‘universal jurisdiction’ over those of independent nation states including Canada?

    It’s pure socialism. I just hope that the Council proposing this is a lefty fringe and doesn’t speak for most of the Vatican (because I quite like Catholicism, providing I don’t have to participate).

    Construction continues at Mississauga gas plant
    TORONTO — The Opposition is demanding to know why construction is continuing on a Mississauga power plant that the Liberal government promised to shut down just before the Oct. 6 election.
    Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says crews yesterday delivered the huge generator to the site of the Mississauga generating station that was supposed to be shut down.
    Premier Dalton McGuinty reversed his position in the middle of the election campaign and announced the plant would be built elsewhere, but Hudak says he always doubted that commitment.
    The Tory leader wonders if McGuinty is breaking a campaign promise less than three weeks after election day.
    New Energy Minister Chris Bentley issued a statement saying the government will find another location for the plant, but he was not available to explain why construction is continuing.
    Hudak and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath say they’re worried about how much taxpayers will have to pay for cancelling the Mississauga gas plant and another one in Oakville, both in Liberal-held ridings.
    *McGuinty announced a few wks into the election campaign from the site that it would be canceled & moved, The riding(as the reporter in the vid explains) was in danger of being lost.
    However as the reporter shows in the vid the massive generators that were moved to the site, & workers still hard at it.

    Well, what the vatican says about economic matters is totally irrelevant to me. Most of the religions are socialistic for as a friend once explained to me, communism was Christlike: about love and brotherhood, sharing, et al. That’s 100 million died of it was merely due to poor management.
    What really bothers me is the gaping chasm between the Pope’s awesome rhetoric at Regensburg (sp?) and reality. I can still remember ET’s and Vίtruvius’s understandable salivation over those fine … WORDS.
    To wit: the Pope’s dead silence over the persecution and mass murder of Christians in Muslim lands, including of course the outrages against the Copts of Egypt. Not a Peep from the Pope who’s looking more like a Pipsqeak with each passing day.

    So “Yes we can!” has been morphed into “We can’t wait!” Interesting, considering the American public has been impatiently waiting to expel a bowel movement called “socialism” in the shape of an Obama Logo. I must say that a few of those OWS protestors are sitting with crossed legs to at the sight of all of the loaded port-a-potties facing the same issue. A big load of socialism with very little place left to put it. Well, Sir, we are going to find a place for it, and those that will be removing it are chomping at the bit to vote for the largest excrement removal since the Carter Administration. The question is will it be worth the aggravation.
    I ask this only because it would appear that Romney has lost Mr. Will. As in George Will. Now, I remember the days when I was a college student, and I was sitting around, and if I picked up a magazine and needed some well written column on politics, I would read his. That man has a way with words. I don’t. I’ve always been kind of blunt. Why would the people vote for half a commie when they can have the full monty? Between Romney and you I still have not been, nor will I ever be convinced into thinking even remotely that Mr. Romney is anything other then a carbon copy of you both intellectually and politically. Besides, why would the Republican party nominate a guy from Massachusetts?!?! Just because they think that’s their best shot? That’s ridiculous.
    The purpose of our political system is not to rig the game. It’s to have one. Let’s have a real bone fide election. Let’s have a game that tries to pitch America a socialist pinko commie verse a red blooded American throwing strikes with words like liberty, freedom, family, faith, and a smaller federal government that is a honed scalpel, and not a jack hammer just waiting to whack us. Let’s have those same men or woman fire off at each other in a debate of ideas, and challenge each other, as to why more of our money should become the governments just so we can whack Grandma a few years sooner, and convert insurance companies into tax collectors, and doctors and nurses, into slaves of the federal government. Let’s have a real debate between peace through strength and a debate about an ever evolving war for one side of the same muslim/arab coin. Let’s get down and dirty as to how and why we are gazillions in debt and deficit. Let’s put it all on the line, and trust the American people to make the right choice.
    Isn’t that why we are here in the first place? I think so. I think we are here to form a more perfect union, live good lives, and love one another. I think we are smart enough to know that when the government is stuffing so much garbage down our throats, and we feel the fierce urgency to vote, we are forced to wait until the proper date and time to register our extreme displeasure with the situation. We do it. We do it because we are not permitted to operate outside the law. We do it because we respect The Constitution and we are tired of watching liberal Democrats use it as toilet paper in pursuit of their socialist nightmare.   45. Just got off a 12 shift: EBD there are some who think that the Canadian system of banking is extremely socialist in its control. Perhaps, but they appear to have weathered the storm rather well. I wouldn’t, as a Catholic, put much weight on (someone’s) blatherings from the Vatican. However this is a Church above all else, and it is the betterment of mankind that is their business! Not the betterment of the stock market! I don’t enter a confessional to get stock tips. In British Columbia it was the Social Credit Government (hardly socialists) who nationalized (provincialzed?) Black Ball Ferries, B.C. Electric and God knows what else. Seems to have worked out pretty well.
    Me No Dhimmi – You want the Pope to start another Crusade to the Holy Land? The Jews seem to be doing a good job of looking after things there. You can be sure there are strings being pulled and lots of behind the scenes things occurring. By the way, the United Church of Canada is doing what? And the Druidic and pro-Sharia Archbishop of Canterbury has done … what? Black Mamba – I quite like Catholicism when you don’t participate too! Scar, your comment is scabby! Oh, and batb didn’t say a word on the subject here, Me No Dhimmi was proposing that the Pope denounce the persecution of Christians, not that he launch a crusade, and Ken (Kulak)’s link does not strike me as being very friendly to your position, which is obviously that the Church is beyond any possible criticism. I think you’d get angry if I suggested that the Borgias weren’t antirely nice.

  48. Your idea of the Borgias is, I think, that learned from the BBC production of same. Although I didn’t watch it, (I’m aware of the English fear of all things Catholic) the truth is that, no they weren’t entirely nice, but not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. Tell the truth, I don’t think any one is “entirely nice”, including present company. You really shouldn’t be so upset, not everyone is in tune to your view of the world.

  49. larben – never seen “BBC production of same”. I gots me some dead-tree books about the Borgias. And while my “view of the world” is hardly anti-Catholic, I’m certainly not going to say the Vatican never does anything stupid (BTW I don’t care if you think it’s my business). They’ve stepped in it here, and since I’d like the Church to be one of humanity’s conservative, civilizing forces, that bugs me. Does being Catholic really mean just checking your critical faculties at the door as far as you’re concerned? It’s one thing to be a member of the flock, I’d think, but quite another to be just a sheep.
    Shaidle’s right: If this “Pontifical Council” isn’t important, if what they say isn’t binding (a la Weigel), then the Pope needs to abolish said councils, or at least heavily reign them in. Otherwise, there’s no telling what we infidels might conclude y’all are up to.

  50. Black Mamba – I don’t care what Kathy thinks -she’s entitled to her opinions they just don’t impress me here. Of course I disagree with the so-called headline as reported. But as Brian Lilley notes over at Lilley’s Pad, the Church has always been anti-Communist for obvious reasons, and I think this whole thing is taken totally out of context, but you are acting so tenacious on this minor interpretation that I am sure you are anti-Catholic, but you know what? That’s okay because I have my own biases and I sure as hell am not going to change them because you might not like them. That said, you can be sure I will be defensive of the Faith that I have chosen to follow, if for no other reason than it appears to be the last bastion of free thought that it is okay to despise.
