Theres nothing stopping anyone from having this conference in the middle of a street. Or in the Nevada desert. Go have it in a public place or parking lot or something. I simply pointed out that it is the height of irony that an Islamist group which uses bullying and threats of violence to silence those with whom they disagree has been able to close down a conference whose purpose is to uphold freedom of speech in America.

The hotel can do what it wants. If it breaks laws, it can be tried at court. The staff have no obligation to be polite to anyone, least of all some irrate customer who’s convinced he’s saving the country and the hotel’s getting in the way.
If they violated a contract, they can be tried in a court of law. Otherwise, if you call them repeatedly, they can tell you to go do something anatomically impossible. And theres nothing you or anyone can do about it. Private property is private property.

You’re missing the point. Its a hotel. A private hotel. A luxury hotel. It isn’t meant to cater to the commoner or common tastes. Its meant to cater to discerning tastes and rich folk. Its not a free for all open to anyone. Its a business that relies heavily on exclusivity.
The riff-raff aren’t subhumans – they re simply people who don’t fit the criteria. They may have the money, but not the discrete behavior (think flashy rich). They may have the intelligence, but not the discretion.
Of course they’re human. We all are. But that doesn’t mean that once you enter an airplane on a first class ticket, you can behave however you want. There are rules of conduct, and the people who aren’t familiar with them are more likely to break them.

Look, nobody (in the Geller/Spencer camp) is suggesting anyone try to invade the hotel. It’s a letter-writing/phonecall campaign. It’s called feedback.
Its a nuisance campaign, like the campaign that preceded it.
Hotels are private property – you don’t have a right to use them. Go use a hotel thats more sympathetic to your cause instead. Might be tough – the best hotels typically have better clientele to cater to. Rabble rousers are generally not welcome.
And disrupting service is not feedback. If its only feedback you’re interested in sending, then why are there instructions to NOT allow the hotel to transfer you to the PR firm. The PR firm is better placed ot handle feedback than the people on the job – like the manager, switchboard operators and reception staff.
This isn’t feedback. This is a deliberate attempt to disrupt the running of the hotel and make it pay for not letting your apparently entitled lot in.

Wow, this post has brought more than the usual number of lefty trolls out from their dank hiding places. There’s no point in attempting to reason with them, but just for the sake of fairness it should be said that:
The hotel had a legal contract with the plaintiffs, which it broke without good reason;
The hotel claimed it had been threatened, yet strangely did not go to the police, FBI or law enforcement;
Instead of apologizing, hotel management has been rude and offensive;
And most importantly, by allegedly caving to radical extremists, the hotel has helped make their own country a little bit less free for everyone. If we wanted to live under Sharia, we’d all go live in Iran. (The trolls are more than welcome to go live there, especially the gay and/or female ones.)

I’ve written to the Hutton Hotel to tell them that I’m astonished that they’ve allowed threats of violence and intimidation to shut down a “Preserving Freedom” conference.
I did not use harassment, I did not threaten any violence, I didn’t even threaten that I’d never stay at their hotel. I simply pointed out that it is the height of irony that an Islamist group which uses bullying and threats of violence to silence those with whom they disagree has been able to close down a conference whose purpose is to uphold freedom of speech in America.

The hotel can do what it wants. If it breaks laws, it can be tried at court. The staff have no obligation to be polite to anyone, least of all some irrate customer who’s convinced he’s saving the country and the hotel’s getting in the way.
If they violated a contract, they can be tried in a court of law. Otherwise, if you call them repeatedly, they can tell you to go do something anatomically impossible. And theres nothing you or anyone can do about it. Private property is private property.

To top it all of, its private property. No ones entitled to go in and say what they want. If I was running a top rung hotel, I’d keep the riff raff out too.

Actually, they can tell the NAACP to pack up if they so wish. And there’s nothing the NAACP can do to contest it, as long as it’s not illegal. The hotel can’t kick them out on the basis of their skin color or creed, but it can kick them out if it feels that their presence is inconveniencing other guests. And there’s diddly squat you or anyone can do about it.
Of course, the NAACP and most organized groups are generally more tolerable than fire-breathing rabble rousers who have only one thing on their agenda – to spread fear and demonize. I mean, really, its about a hotel saying thank you, but no thank you. You and your type don’t fit into our rarified air.
And fair play to them. I don’t see Dubya or Cheney inviting the lot of you to their house for a conference. And they don’t even have to worry about threats. The reason they don’t is because they don’t want riff-raff running around in their houses. Neither do the hotels.
The plain and simple fact is that these conferences attract a certain type of audience that is not quite to the taste of the discerning clientele that use these hotels. Call it classist, or whatever, but thats just the reality of life. Management decided that it could do without the nuisance AND the typical audience for this, who may well have the money to affor the hotel, but lack the class, behavior and discretion that generate the classy/fake/put on atmosphere of dignified polish at these hotels.

All I m saying is that 5-star hotels are discerning about their clientele, and lets face it – most of small town middle-class America would look out of place in any discerning establishment. You’re missing the point. Its a hotel. A private hotel. A luxury hotel. It isn’t meant to cater to the commoner or common tastes. Its meant to cater to discerning tastes and rich folk. Its not a free for all open to anyone. Its a business that relies heavily on exclusivity.
The riff-raff aren’t subhumans – they re simply people who don’t fit the criteria. They may have the money, but not the discrete behavior (think flashy rich). They may have the intelligence, but not the discretion.
Of course they’re human. We all are. But that doesn’t mean that once you enter an airplane on a first class ticket, you can behave however you want. There are rules of conduct, and the people who aren’t familiar with them are more likely to break them.
Whether they pay taxes or not is of no consequence ot the hotel. The hotel is a private corporation and – take note – reserves the right to deny admission.
And whats wrong with doing all of this in a park? Does it have to be done in a hotel that prefers quiet to rowdy? Discretion to outspokenness?

Standing up for what? The hotel owes you nothing is not answerable to you. They don’t have to explain their decision to not allow this group or that group in.

It is private property and it is run to generate profits for its stakeholders.
