Atlanta police on Friday were trying to determine what motivated an Alabama woman accused of a failed attempt to set fire to the home where the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was born.

Bystanders, including two off-duty police officers from New York, stopped the woman as she splashed gasoline on the historic home in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday and helped detain her until police arrived, local media reported.

The bystanders were “tourists from Utah”. UPDATE: video here.

Most people who are not total moral lunatics would not condemn the mayor of Calgary for showing up to a local menorah lighting ceremony; nor imagine that doing so lent any kind of political cover to Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu. Because most people are capable of understanding that showing up to local community events is literally Jyoti Gondek’s fucking job.

But this beautiful scene, this idyllic image of a city that puts its neighbours first, this is not the world we live in now, apparently.

There are 100,000 Muslims in Calgary and 6,700 Jews. You can do math as well as Gondek does.

Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis police officer currently serving jail time in connection with the death of George Floyd, was stabbed 22 times in prison by a “Black Lives Matter” vigilante inmate.

John Turscak, 52, has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing Chauvin 22 times in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said that Tursak used an improvised knife and allegedly told authorities he would have killed Chauvin had they not intervened, according to the Associated Press.

Prosecutors claim that Turscak later disclosed to FBI agents that he had been contemplating assaulting Chauvin for approximately one month due to the fact that he is a high-profile inmate, but denied intending to murder him.

Turscak informed the agents that he planned to attack Chauvin, 47, on Black Friday, the day following Thanksgiving, as a symbolic nod to the Black Lives Matter movement and the “Black Hand” emblem affiliated with the Mexican Mafia gang, prosectors said, according to the outlet.

“He died happy at the hands of those he loved. RIP “

A Los Angeles social justice advocate was killed on Monday when a homeless woman, who lived out of her car, broke into his home and shot him.

Michael Latt, 33, the founder of the social justice group “Lead With Love” was the victim of a “tragic act of violence” after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound before being transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Obviously, he hasn’t been reading my blog. Over 20 years ago I was running a series of posts tagged “Berkeley Hatewatch Update,” tracking hateful and antisemitic behavior at UC Berkeley. […]

So even in Chemerinsky’s own backyard, the signs have been there continuously for basically the entire 21st Century to date. If Chemerinsky read my blog, he’d have known about happenings there, and elsewhere throughout the higher education world, that apparently are news to him.

Well, to be fair, deans have more important things to do than read blogs. On the other hand, well, welcome to the party, pal. Pointing out the flourishing, toleration, and even encouragement of antisemitism in the higher education sector has largely been the function of “right wing” outlets. Mainstream and left-wing media (but I repeat myself) have had little desire to air the dirty laundry in public. And, anyway, they’re increasingly staffed with recent graduates from elite schools, steeped in Critical Race Theory, “decolonization” talk, and the like, who see this antisemitism (along with prejudice against Asians and “whiteness”) as natural and laudable, instead of as what it is, which is evil and un-American. The truth is that support for antisemitism and mass murder isn’t an aberration for the far left that dominates American campuses now. As Ilya Somin notes, it’s baked in: “It’s rooted in a long history of defending horrific mass murder and other atrocities.”

Since the October 7th Simchat Torah pogrom, you might have noticed a lot of antisemitic hate at universities. Do you wonder where the hate comes from? It comes from post-colonial theory, the topic with the lexical word salad including ‘decolonisation’, ‘imperialism’, ‘settler’, ‘cultural appropriation’, ‘resistance’ and ‘indigenisation’. Post-colonial is one of a number of critical social justice (CSJ) theories which have infiltrated and occupy North American universities. You may not know what CSJ is, but you probably know its fruit: DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion), anti-racism, gender theory (what is a woman?) and unconscious bias training.

I want to draw your attention to a recent tactical move by the critical theory folks at a college in my town: the University of Waterloo (UW). This is relevant to the current moment, because it is all of a piece with the pro-Hamas blood lust. Critical theory is what unifies people who chant “from the river to the sea” and those who punch TERFs at Posie Parker events, who advocate men competing in women’s sports, who topple statues, burn churches and who want to defund the police. The event I am about to describe demonstrates the power and malign intent of CSJ activists.

Loay Alnaji, a computer science professor at Ventura County Community College, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with involuntary manslaughter after he was involved in a deadly confrontation with pro-Israel demonstrator Paul Kessler.

In early November, Kessler died of his wounds following “a physical altercation with counter-protestor(s),” in Los Angeles, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement afterward. “During the altercation, Kessler fell backward and struck his head on the ground. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force head injury and the manner of death homicide,” the statement continued.[…]

“We are devastated to learn of the tragic death of an elderly Jewish man who was struck in the head by a megaphone wielded by a pro-Palestinian protestor in Westlake Village.”
