What? There’s no Portuguese? They’ve got Tamil and not Portuguese? Do you have to occupy an elevated highway to get any respect in this province? Leaving aside the inappropriateness of producing a campaign document in languages other than English and French, what exactly does Tim Hudak have against the Luso-Ontarian community? Did his cleaning lady abscond with the silverware?..

He’s also not best pleased with the Ontario PC’s election platform (which for some reason in not titled Changebook)–read all about it, esp fans of e. e. cummings.

A most interesting article about Sarah Palin has appeared in the NY Times. It actually appears to be … wait for it … in support of much of her message.
At a recent speech in Iowa, Palin touched upon several themes that should strike chords with true conservatives. In doing so, she made a distinction between conservatives and big-government Republicans. Here’s a key section:

Ms. Palin may be hinting at a new political alignment that would pit a vigorous localism against a kind of national-global institutionalism.
On one side would be those Americans who believe in the power of vast, well-developed institutions like Goldman Sachs, the Teamsters Union, General Electric, Google and the U.S. Department of Education to make the world better. On the other side would be people who believe that power, whether public or private, becomes corrupt and unresponsive the more remote and more anonymous it becomes; they would press to live in self-contained, self-governing enclaves that bear the burden of their own prosperity.

At the beginning of Barack Obama’s reign, we were told by his sycophants in the mainstream media and other devotees in his Leftist Cult that he was The One, that he stands above the country, and that he is the smartest person to ever assume the U.S. presidency.
Almost 3 years later, reality won out over the hype. Reality sucks, eh?! After wasting trillions of dollars of borrowed taxpayer money, after burdening the American economy with an endless stream of disastrous statist/socialist policies, after fueling a class war & race war throughout the nation, now Obama & his minions are likely to do what dishonorable failed people always do: blame someone else.
John Batchelor and New York Representative Nan Hayworth provide a preview of what they expect to see in tonight’s speech. Thanks to Obama & co. 2012 will be one of the most divisive in America’s history. And the entire time, the leaders of China will sit back and be laughing.

Margaret Wente has written a stinging column about Dalton McGuinty and his shameless plan to get reelected. Here’s a sampling:

But never mind the real world. The Liberals are convinced that micro-pandering to crucial market segments is their key to re-election. And so we have, in no particular order, pledges to bring back doctors’ house calls for the elderly, a “healthy snack” program for schoolchildren, a home renovation tax credit to help your dear old mom install a walk-in shower, a whopping postsecondary tuition cut for the middle class, and a vow to reduce childhood obesity rates by 20 per cent. (Good luck with that.) The Premier will even refund your money if the trains don’t run on time.
I haven’t felt so warm and fuzzy since the Easter Bunny came to town. Vote for the Liberals, and there’ll be chocolate eggs for all! Just make sure you don’t overdose on all the saccharine.
What really bothers me isn’t the cynical opportunism of this approach. It’s not even the silly attempts at social engineering. It’s the sheer fatuousness of it all. The Liberals’ only aim is to reassure the public that, if they’re re-elected, nothing bad will happen and nothing much will change.
But it will.

In case there are any remaining doubts that animal welfare has been hijacked by the hard left;

The editors of a new Journal of Animal Ethics (JAE) published this month by the University of Illinois Press say derogatory words like “pests” and “vermin” should be dropped altogether and “pets” replaced by “companion animals”, while “wild animals” should be termed “free living or free ranging animals”.
“Despite its prevalence, “pets” is surely a derogatory term both of the animals concerned and their human carers. Again the word “owners”, whilst technically correct in law, harks back to a previous age when animals were regarded as just that: property, machines or things to use without moral constraint … In addition, we invite authors to use the words “free-living”, “free-ranging” or “free-roaming” rather than “wild animals”… For most, “wildness” is synonymous with uncivilized, unrestrained, barbarous existence. There is an obvious prejudgment here that should be avoided.”

Check, double check, and triple check just who is running your local SPCA or humane society before donating so much as a nickel to them. Pay close attention to the language they use. There are hard core animal rights activists at work in even small town, rural animal shelters.
Some of those who solicit your money to “help animals” have, as their end game, the removal of your right to own one.

You know I got to musing, another one of those navel moments (instead of getting the house roof finished/started) as to where it all went wrong and it occurred to me, and maybe not for the first time, that the world and humans used to operate a winner takes all, or a spoils of victory approach. Isn’t it the victory or accomplishment that makes the effort worthwhile in all our endeavours?
I think we know? We the west stopped doing that after WW2 Not only did we pay to win, but we paid to rebuild Europe in doing so we bankrupted ourselves our industries and our economy’s, and set up the losers to be winners both economically and culturally for the last 5 decades. I know its old history and been run through time and again but we in the free or British dominions had rationing and drained our capital not to invest in our industries and infrastructure but to re-build Europe. Did Europe pay for anything? (And I’m not talking here about Germanys blood money paid to the state of Israel) And this was based on what?
I believe the League of Nations was fond of and full of communists and losers and created the thesis that the results of the WW1 would create havoc unless they could dictate the future, That worked so well in that WW2 happened, that its successor just had to be right, if the natural order created the revulsion of death that was expressed in “war to end all wars” and had failed then the league of nations position had to be the right alternative and its successor UN has continued over the last 60 years to propagate every conceivable intrusion in the natural order of life and society. It has pushed its socialist agenda and its rabid hatred into every function of the world. A conglomerate of failed, destitute countries, ideologies and demagogues that should have been the natural vanquished humiliated losers banished from any type of influence in the order of the natural world being elevated to the status of victors and legislatures.
The natural god given order will not and cannot survive like this and a natural correction must follow. Is the world in the end game of having letting the losers win? The western civilisation that has been the enabler for the world during the last 200 years started committing suicide after the second world war. Instead of crushing the defeated we elevated them, enabled them and served penance on ourselves eventually allowing every failed cause to push back against the natural order.
Or have I missed something?
