  2. Amazing how many new things just keep popping up in this “settled science”.
    This is just the tip of the iceberg, much as they’ve tried to villainize fracking for unconventional gas sources, the energy contained in these hydrate formations is our next step after oil, gas and coal.

    The market seems to have discounted the global warmin genocide of 4.5 billion as SCI stock has ‘flat-lined’ for the last six months.
    betcha there is a run on priest & preacher bookings as well to lead all them funerals.

  6. These kind of alarmist predictions are the biggest Achilles’ heel of the global warming fraud artists. I wonder if anyone has collected them all and republished them. It would make for great and hilarious reading.
    It is always entertaining to insert those kinds of predicitions (along with old newspaper stories such as the one from the 1920’s indicating how the Arctic had warmed up significantly) into online discussion forums and watch the fraud artists twist themselves in knots of logic trying to wriggle out from under the weight of evidence.

  18. Wait a minute! Here in Lambton Co. Ontario there’s a company that captures methane from their garbage dump…er….landfill and use it to generate electricity. Oh, and when we were kids we always tried to ignite one another’s farts.
    Weren’t we dealing with methane there?
    And these people are concerned about methane release?? This could be the answer to producing clean energy.
    These idiots are taking lemonade and turning it into lemons, so to speak..

  22. The moonbat is betrayed by the lack of enthusiasm for population reduction.
    These are much the same people as worry about population increase; a reduction from 7 billion to 2.5 billion should make them happy.
    They have a nice/nasty gimmick though, with this talk of a tipping point.
    It is consistent with the fact that there has been little climate change in the last 30 years;
    and yet we should be worried and sending money because we are … this close … to catastrophe.

    Somehow those didn’t destroy the world – or indeed cause The Death Of Nearly Everything.
    What part of the hypothesis suggests it would be double-horribly-bad this time?
    (If it’s “runaway catastrophic global warming” if it happens this time, why wasn’t it catastrophic every previous time?
    For “runaway global warming” it sure seems to have no Baked The Planet To A Crisp.)

    Back in the early 1970’s the Ontario NDP got quite a bit of mileage out a statistic that Ontario was losing enormous amounts of farm land. They were correct that the amount of farm land was decreasing markedly – only later was it revealed the land wasn’t being paved over but simply taken out of production because marginal land wasn’t profitable to farm.

    Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
    Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.
    OOPS – I apologize! I neglected to mention that this report was issued November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post – – almost 89 years ago!

    Your comment about farmland simply isn’t true. I moved to Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto, 2o years ago. At the time, there were two large working farms in the area – Silver Stream at Major Mac and Leslie, and Southbrook, at Major Mac and Bathurst. Southbrook grew a lot of corn but also had an award winning winery; Silver Stream mainly grew corn.
    Both are gone now, turned into massive subdivisions. I don’t blame the farmers – why work your butt off for a few hundred thousand a year at most when you can sell the place for tens of millions and retire?
    When we first moved to Toronto in the early 60’s, my public school was right next to a dairy farm. Virtually verything north of the 401 was farmland except for a narrow strip around Yonge Street. Today, from Morningside in the east to the airport in the west, there are no working farms from the 401 north to Highway 7; it is now all residential or industrial. That’s over 300 sq km, or about 75,000 acres. That’s 1,500 acres a year since the 60’s JUST IN TORONTO. That doesn’t include Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Ajax, Pickering, or areas around London, Kitchener-Waterloo, etc., etc.
    Again, I don’t blame the farmers. I did tax returns for them in the 70’s, and I know how most of them struggled. If a developer had dangled a big cheque in front of me, I would have jumped. There might have been a few years when low crop prices took land out of production but to ignore the massive shift from farming to residential/industrial that a six-fold increase in the GTA’s population encouraged is just sticking your head in the sand.
    I remember the articles you wrote about. The NDP’s argument was that we’d run out of food. As Frank pointed out, it hasn’t happened, and it’s kinda hard to square that circle with endemic rates of obesity, diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, etc.
