With no other pressing matters on his plate, U.S. President Barack Obama pardoned a 72 year old jewel thief yesterday.At the time of this writing, there was no comment from Svend Robinson.
Correction: As tirador pointed out, Svend Robinson was indeed born in Minnesota. My apologies! This fact rather wrecks my joke. Perhaps the title should have been: “Is Svend Next in Line for King Obama to Pardon?”

And as before, they show the “scientists” at the heart of the Man-Made Global Warming industry in a most unflattering light. Michael Mann, Phil Jones, Ben Santer, Tom Wigley, Kevin Trenberth, Keith Briffa – all your favourite Climategate characters are here, once again caught red-handed in a series of emails exaggerating the extent of Anthropogenic Global Warming, while privately admitting to one another that the evidence is nowhere near as a strong as they’d like it to be.

What appears to be a new batch of emails and other documents from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit has been released.
Contents include more than 5,000 emails and other documents, some relating to work with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
A similar release in 2009 triggered the “ClimateGate” affair and accusations of fraud that inquiries later dismissed.
Now, as then, the release comes shortly before the annual UN climate summit.
The university has yet to comment on the document cache, which is posted on a Russian server.
Note, the file was released at around 4am this morning, so a lot is still to come out. And there are an additional 220,000 emails that remain behind password protection – for now.

Supporting Neither the Mission or the Troops
It’s not too uncommon these days to hear the overused canard, “I support the troops, not the mission”. When uttered out of the mouth of a Leftist, this is almost certainly always a lie, but they say it to avoid the scorn & ridicule they richly deserve. But in Boston, one radical left-wing law professor named Michael Avery, has removed the false veneer and is saying what so many on the Left actually believe. Here’s a screen capture of Avery:
In a recent e-mail to colleagues, regarding care packages for U.S. troops, he said:
“I think it is shameful that it is perceived as legitimate to solicit in an academic institution for support for men and women who have gone overseas to kill other human beings.”
Of course, the law school is scared to say or do anything against him, likely because most of his colleagues are probably already patting him on his back.
But some are finally standing up against Comrade Avery. One of them, Robert Roughsedge, an adjunct member of the Suffolk University School of Law, has just resigned, as he feels his own reputation is being besmirched if he stays connected to Suffolk. Here’s a snippet of his resignation letter:
Professor Avery has engaged in hate speech against a class of citizens who ironically do not enjoy the same First Amendment rights. Members serving in the U.S. military cannot speak out on matters of politics or personal opinion if doing so would tarnish the reputation of the military. Suffolk apparently does not live up to these same ideals and standards. A senior member of the faculty has brought shame upon the institution and all who support it, yet he will no doubt be celebrated for his courage at the next faculty dinner or next visit to Cuba.

It is a maxim of modern Canada that the religious should be seen and not heard. The Christians should not be heard because they hold radical beliefs, which were once quite conventional. The Muslims should not be heard because they too hold radical beliefs, but radical beliefs (i.e. very socially conservative ones) that do not fit into the mushy concepts of multiculturalism. In the Cult of Multicult the villains are always old angry white folk with John Deere caps, the heroes are colourfully dressed and skinned immigrants…
One of the recurring themes in my multiculturalism posts is that it will likely be the immigrants who destroy the Cult of Multicult. A policy driven in no small part by white liberal guilt can only be destroyed by the objects of that guilt rejecting it. Of course the WASP elite could stop feeling guilty about their country’s history, but let’s not hope for miracles…

Continuing to pour billions of dollars into declining rural areas without any kind of restructuring is “grossly wasteful,” says Rose Olfert, an economist with the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan..

The province of “tiny dots” is a legacy of a time, eight decades ago, when there were more than 100,000 farms and 600,000 people lived in rural areas.
Today, following a migration to towns and cities through much of the 20th century, only about 350,000 people remain in farm country.
Nary a soul in sight.
But much of the infrastructure has stayed behind. There’s about 26,000 kilometres of highway crisscrossing vast, sparsely populated areas.
Because, God knows – unlike those cities teeming with civil servants and university profs, there’s nothing out there in that wasteland of tiny dots …
… to support their infrastructure.
We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Fans

In a withering assault on the onshore wind turbine industry, the [Duke of Edinburgh] said the farms were “a disgrace”.
He also criticised the industry’s reliance on subsidies from electricity customers, claimed wind farms would “never work” and accused people who support them of believing in a “fairy tale”.
No need to tell the Dutch;
[F]ve years later the green future looks a long way off. Faced with the need to cut its budget deficit, the Dutch government says offshore wind power is too expensive and that it cannot afford to subsidize the entire cost of 18 cents per kilowatt hour — some 4.5 billion euros last year.
The government now plans to transfer the financial burden to households and industrial consumers in order to secure the funds for wind power and try to attract private sector investment.
It will start billing consumers and companies in January 2013 and simultaneously launch a system under which investors will be able to apply to participate in renewable energy projects.
But the new billing system will reap only a third of what was previously available to the industry in subsidies — the government forecasts 1.5 billion euros every year — while the pricing scale of the investment plan makes it more likely that interested parties will choose less expensive technologies[…]

Just When You Think You’ve Seen Everything
I have some relatives in town from Humboldt, Saskatchewan. They and a buddy of mine had dinner over at my place. I asked my friend what he wanted to drink and mentioned that I had some German beer in the fridge, given to me on July 1st by some lovely ladies from Deutschland that we both know. He accepted the offer of beer. I brought it out to him, along with a glass. When I returned to the table I saw that he had poured it into the glass. I did a double-take because I thought I wasn’t seeing correctly. But alas, I was. It was GREEN!!! I’ve sent a message to the fräuleins but have not yet heard back from them. Has anyone seen such a beer before?!

From wildlife spectacle to wildlife mystery, the decline of the caribou — called reindeer in the Eurasian Arctic — has biologists searching for clues, and finding them.
They believe the insidious impact of climate change, its tipping of natural balances and disruption of feeding habits, is decimating a species that has long numbered in the millions and supported human life in Earth’s most inhuman climate.
A vast herd of northern caribou that scientists feared had vanished from the face of the Earth has been found, safe and sound — pretty much where aboriginal elders said it would be all along.
“The Beverly herd has not disappeared,” said John Nagy, lead author of a recently published study that has biologists across the North relieved.
Those scientists were shaken by a 2009 survey on the traditional calving grounds of the Beverly herd, which ranges over a huge swath of tundra from northern Saskatchewan to the Arctic coast. A herd that once numbered 276,000 animals seemed to have completely disappeared, the most dramatic and chilling example of a general decline in barren-ground caribou.
