Why does the Rest of Canada have to be in a Solidarity Lockdown with Quebec?
Lorne Gunter has some important questions for Canadian officials:
Alberta (which had two well-known outbreaks in meat-packing plants that skewed its statistics in mid-April), has had only a few dozen new cases a day this week despite opening up beauty salons, restaurants and most retail a week ago. Golf courses and provincial parks have been open for three weeks.
I would argue even Ontario is no longer so serious that its phased lockdown cannot proceed. More than three-quarters of Ontarians who have test positive are now COVID-free.
The problem remains Quebec.
Quebec still has more than half of the cases in the entire country. And fewer than a third of infected Quebecers have recovered.

Age pattern is as expected but seroprevalence is low, alas.

The state of Texas is an interesting “laboratory” for us all to watch right now:
As Texas reopens, a kind of normal is returning. Last week I was able to make an appointment and obtain a haircut, all perfectly legal. I went to a nearby lake this weekend and saw what looked like a pretty normal number of people, out fishing and kayaking and biking in the sun that’s known to kill the virus with its blaring UV light. It was so nice I took the camera and could have snapped enough pics for a wildflower calendar. Texas really is beautiful before the sun turns the state into a brick oven.
