So fortunately for Carney, he is allowed to use government accounting rules, unlike say Worldcom, who moved ordinary costs for the business into “capital expenditures” creating a $3.8 billion fraud, and violating GAAP.

How many ordinary costs under government spending are being moved to “capital expenditures” to balance the operating budget, and did this happen at any other concern that Carney was previously involved in.

An interesting paper on similar schemes can be found here: http://web.ipca.pt/cigar/presentation/2017-06_Creative_Accounting_CIGAR_FINAL-for-website.pdf

    1. Forty years ago, when I did government work, an expenditure was an expenditure, whether it was of a capital nature or not. While capital assets were accounted for, the whole point of government accounting was to document sources and uses of funds. The measure of success in government was how close to budget the final results were as opposed to some measure of profit. Government assets on the books are pretty much meaningless because stating the value of a road or a school has no relationship to any current value.

    2. sooooooooo this evasiveness is just going to speed up the final financial collapse?
and the carney gang is long gone to their tax havens?
and all dem LIEberal voters are either ‘blame Trump blame Trump’ or serious 2nd thoughts?
neither of which addresses the catastrophe . . .

Speaking of Pink (the singer), she is being targeted for speaking out against antisemitism, and pro-Hamas types are circulating a petition to have Pink removed as an UNICEF ambassador. Pink supports many charitable causes, most of which are non-political. She supports most Democrat-left views. But given that UNICEF is UNICEF, she might get the boot.

  4. Canada’s retail sales fell 0.7% in July. It was expected to fall 0.8%. More “pockets of strength ahead”.

    So much optimism.

    1. https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/260924/dq260924a-eng.htm

The -0.7% decline is in nominal terms. In real terms, the decline is -1.1%. Using economic jargon this is a “lagging economic indicator”, since the data point is for July. But leading or lagging, most indicators point to an economic recession.

Note that the Canadian dollar continues to fall, given that investors are moving money from Canada to the U.S. The next Canada interest rate decision will see a bank rate hike of 0.25% or 0.50% (probably the former). The question is whether or not the Bank will want the scheduled month to raise it, or hold an emergency meeting. But an emergency meeting contradicts Libera/media happy talk.

The corporate media have been silent as to the winds of simultaneous recession and inflation. The media are still in an Elbows Up mode, regurgitating Mark Carney photo-ops and government-paid advertising. Canada has a bright Liberal future.

      1. well there ya have it. polls or not, it wd seem all the dire numbers pretty much GUARANTEE a Liberal majority next national election.
        ?
well ya, its what the voters WANT. they WANT ruin and catastrophe, inflation, housing crisis, emergency waiting rooms packed, MAiD gone haywire. they clearly WANT all this based on 11 years voting patterns.

        1. But, but, but … the Canadian liberals … care. Their love … is love. Don’t you care about the Canadian* people ?

*the 55% of Canadians whose families were actually born in Canada.

      2. Just checked the main pages of three major news web sites in Canada: CTV news, CBC news and the Globe and Mail. All three main pages make no mention of the falling dollar. And CBC and CTV main pages makes no mention of the 0.7% decline in retail sales. The Globe and Mail has a story on this, but it is buried way down in its Business section of the main page.

All three news outlets are slavishly pro-Liberal. Today’s news is filled with anti-Trump swill and the trade war. And our economy is just doing dandy eh?

        1. I travel to Australia often…every winter since covid restrictions were lifted, and 3 times before Covid. The exchange rate was usually about $1.00 CDN getting you $1.10 Australian. Last Feb, (when Carney visited Oz), it was about $1.07. in Canada’s favour. Today, they are at virtual par. Thanks Libs, travel there has become more expensive now.

    2. MarxCarnage: “See? We beat expectations!”
A land where a 0.1% lower drop than expected is a cause to celebrate is going nowhere.

    1. Another achievement of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Don’t be a climate Nazi. Be a climate Commie.

Communism is cool. It solves problems, over-population for example.

    2. OH NO – , IT’S A NOR’EASTER
Just in time for midterm msm propaganda, a Nor’easter is expected to hit the East Coast with winds up to 60mph. Current projections are focused on New Jersey. This nor’easter is all Trump’s fault for sneering at Climate Change.

      1. Ohhhhhhhhh Mommmmaaaaaaaa … if Trump only had NOT withdrawn from the Paris Climate punishment, err agreement.

    1. ‘gender affirming surgery’; the 2026 equivalent of lobotomies? a ‘great innovation’ and irreversible cure all?
how many VICTIMS before they WAKE UP ????

    2. Once again … the data … confirms what common sense had already concluded. Anyone who “transitions” their sex is profoundly mentally ill. Chopping off body parts and replacing hormones simply makes it worse. Irreversibly worse.

    1. Interesting there is no use of proceeds mentioned other than a cryptic “providing investors with an opportunity to participate in a labelled bond supporting Canada’s defence capabilities, industrial base and long-term economic resilience”.

      1. Bingo! How are they going to provide these investors? And who will be on the hook if these investments don’t pan out?

    2. A military that marches on their rather rotund stomachs and employs DEI policies … doesn’t march for free.

  5. Today’s news reports that we should expect pro-Palestine marches (riots) on October 7. Marchers will be celebrating the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023. Expect the usual suspects to participate. Too bad one of ANTIFA’s big funders, millionaire Fergie Chambers, is currently facing US demands for extradition in Spain. This is likely putting a strain on Fergie’s finances. Don’t worry, Queers for Palestine will participate.

      1. 15% of all Gazan women experiencing ‘gender based violence’ are aged 0-17yo ? What a beautiful culture all those Lib womyn of TikTok support …

  6. So the latest from the “Carney” is Trump plans to invade Canada. The reactions are what you would expect. So what crisis is impending that requires the creation of this crisis? I smell an election. Attached was the contention 65 % support him. I can’t help but think we are so screwed. But on the lighter side , I saw an interesting meme . “If you follow the crowd all you see is A holes” . And maybe it will be a Venezuelan style operation.

    1. “So, in an effort to protect our country’s sovereignty and the sovereignty of all free, democratic peoples across the globe, we’ve decided to team up with the EU in a joint defense and economic resiliency partnership; we will be investing in defense procurement projects that will give jobs to Canadian workers while protecting sovereignty and democracy from the dictatorships that seek to destroy us.”
      –Mark Carney, probably

See my comment about those Scotiabank defense fund initiatives.
He’s gonna raid your pensions; I’d put money on it.

      1. Perhaps Kalshi or Polymarket will begin listing that wager? However … your winnings will be seized by Carney.

          1. Well … don’t count your winnings before the EXTREMIST Left sweeps both Houses of Congress in 5-weeks …

      2. “while protecting sovereignty and democracy from the dictatorships that seek to destroy us.”

        Is he talking about China?

        1. That was me impersonating him; didn’t do too bad did I?
At this point I think you should worry about the dictatorship growing closer to home (and no, it isn’t my country).

    1. I’m not horribly concerned, other than perhaps wanting a mental wellness check for your citizens who lap up whatever your government is dishing out.
We just concluded naval exercises in the Arctic with you guys.

      1. L – As for a mental wellness check of Canadians, note that Canada’s two most accomplished psychologists are now political refugees, living in the United States ! ! !

They may soon be joined by hundreds of thousands of Canadian Jewish refugees. This when the Trump Administration decides on that, in response to some members of Congress lobbying for that status.

Meanwhile, the court case deciding that Canadians involved or supporting the Freedom Convoy, who are subject to political persecution. That judgement is pending.

“These are times that try men’s souls.”

    2. L – “unarmed ships protecting our coast means our coasts are unguarded. This is perfectly logical for a post-national state.

P.M. Carney’s “strategic partnership” with Communist China indicates our new colonial status. Carney ordered both our federal police and Cdn. Armed Forces “co-operate” with Chinese police and the People’s Liberation Army in Canada… and protect the Triad money laundering Cartel. Is sedition still part of the Criminal Code?

Of the Anglo-sphere’s Intelligence group, Five Eyes, the Canadian one is ‘Willful Blindness’.

Soviet residents did not believe one utterance from the Politburo or Pravda. Kanadians eat up every fibre of BS they are fed.

  7. heres a tip lm using now:

  8. Fine movie, “The League Of Gentlemen”. I believe it had less successful sequels: “The Mile Of Rascals” and “The Furlong Of Clods”.

    1. Although I believe there was a country singer named Claude Furlong who enjoyed some success. I could be wrong.

    1. Someone is going to have to do a new trailer for Canadian Bacon, featuring Mark Carney. Storyline will have to be changed to something more like The Mouse that Roared though. That would be a great AI video. Put some geese in it.

  9. I saw the Facebook version of this collection of screengrabs related to a lesbian bar In Massachusetts that has only now lifted their requirement for facemasks in the wake of covid and thought they were recycling old news from 4 years ago, but nope, this is from this week and it’s absolutely hilarious: https://www.instagram.com/p/DdrQB2_GzyG/?hl=en&img_index=1

Original Boston Globe story linked from here (paywall): https://x.com/BostonGlobe/status/210239808059097932

But it’s been republished without a paywall here: https://suaragarut.id/en/lesbian-bar-faces-backlash-mask-policy

and the IG post above has some of the funniest highlights and reactions.
