The New Colonizers;

As Melanie Phillips in a recent talk pointed out, recycling a friend’s analogy, there is a tunneling factor at work on the model of Hamas. The tunnels stretch under the soil of another country and, suddenly, the terrorists “pop up,” seemingly out of nowhere. Phillips is scrupulous to clarify that she is not alluding to Muslim immigration as an overt military scheme carried out by bloodthirsty extremists, but the metaphor of Islam tunneling its way surreptitiously into and under the cultural terrain of Western civilization holds. In the words of Swiss parliamentarian Oskar Freysinger, Islam is “a dogma that is gnawing away at the pillars of our system of laws” — laws, we might add, both written and unspoken.

You Say ISIS, I Say ISIL

Let’s cut the whole head off.

Australian police detained 15 people and raided more than a dozen properties across Sydney in the country’s largest counterterrorism operation, saying intelligence indicated an attack was being planned on Australian soil.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he had been briefed on Wednesday night about the operation that was prompted by information that an Islamic State movement leader in the Middle East was calling on Australian supporters to kill.
Abbott was asked about reports that the people detained were planning to publicly behead a random person in Sydney.
“That’s the intelligence we received,” he told reporters. “The exhortations — quite direct exhortations — were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country.”

Haaretz;

Radical Muslims in the city of Wuppertal in western Germany have begun operating a “Sharia police” force in an attempt to impose Islamic law on local Muslims, the German media reported on the weekend.
About a dozen young Muslim men wearing orange safety vests with the words “Sharia Police” were seen this week outside the city’s discos and pubs and patrolling its streets. According to reports, they were distributing pamphlets and urging Muslims to observe Islamic strictures against alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography and prostitution.
In videos distributed online, the group said it was attempting to implement a “Sharia-Controlled Zone.”

The Tolerant Left

Frontpage Mag;

For the despicable protectors of political correctness and multiculturalism, the systematic sexual abuse of 1,400 girls over the course of a decade and a half — including some as young as 11 years of age — was the lesser of two evils that occurred in Rotherham, England. In a stunning testament to the bankruptcy of both ideologies, a researcher who blew the whistle on this appalling scandal more than a decade ago was sent to an “ethnic and diversity course” by child protection authorities after she revealed the ethnic identity of the abusers.

Backlash

Eventually, there’ll be hell to pay.

Global warming policies abet terrorism and global insecurity. If Western governments weren’t spooked by global warming, ISIS would be less of a threat to the West, the Middle East would be less of a cauldron of hate, Europe wouldn’t be held hostage by Russia and China wouldn’t be threatening its neighbours over islands in the South and East China Seas.

Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors

Ever since the story about the horrific and widespread sex abuse in Rotherham broke, pundits have scrambled for an explanation as to how crimes on that scale could continue unchecked for so long. Yesterday the NYT released a story on Rotherham that at least reached for an explanation. But though the NYT notes both the ethnicity of the abusers and British officials’ “fear of being accused of racism,” as Dawn Eden points out on the Get Religion site, the article conspicuously fails to mention religion.

Perplexed: No one CBC News spoke with can explain how exactly Collin went from sports, hip hop and tweets about wanting to marry American rapper Nicki Minaj in early 2012, to becoming one among thousands of foreign fighters trying to establish an Islamic state in the Middle East.

“death before decapitation”.

A minor drama just concluded in the Middle East. A couple of days ago, Syrian rebels identified with the Nusra front, Syria’s al-Qaeda affiliate, went up to a Fijian United Nations peacekeeping outpost on the Golan Heights and demanded their surrender. […]
The Fijians were taken into Nusra’s custody and the action moved to positions 68 and 69 on the Golan heights ceasefire line, which was manned by a Philippine battalion. The Nusra people made the same demand. ‘Give us your weapons and come with us.’ It was here that the Philippine commander made a crucial decision.
He refused.

The Fijians remain unaccounted for.

Boko Haram as been quick to exploit the army’s low morale. After forcing government troops out of several towns and holding these areas for weeks at a time, militant leader Abubakar Shekau released a video proclaiming the establishment of a new caliphate in Nigeria’s northeast.
Sahara Reporters has translated parts of the video. Shekau praises his forces for their military victories and refutes the authority of the Nigerian state. “We are in an Islamic caliphate,” he boasts. “We have nothing to do with Nigeria. We don’t believe in this name.”
Shekau’s video includes footage of fleeing Nigerian soldiers and Boko Haram fighters sporting heavy weapons and armored personnel carriers.

Empty Chair update;

Libya’s toothless interim government, led by Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani, announced late Thursday it had tendered its resignation to the elected parliament, days after a rival Islamist administration was created.
The interim government, operating in the east of the country to avoid the Islamist militias which have a strong presence in Tripoli, said it “presented its resignation to the elected parliament”, which is based in Tobruk, 600 kilometres east of the capital, also for security reasons.
