“You’re Next”

Doomberg;

Whatever your thoughts on Nigel Farage may be, his substantial impact on British politics is undeniable. Known as a prominent Eurosceptic since the early 1990s, he is widely credited with being the main political force behind the Brexit movement that culminated in the UK’s historic vote to leave the European Union (EU) in 2016. As charismatic as he is controversial, Farage has long been a particularly effective thorn in the side of the British political establishment. Call him what you will, but with more than half of British voters siding with him in that historic referendum, he is anything but a member of a “fringe minority” with “unacceptable views.”

In an unsettling six-minute video posted to Twitter last week, Farage broke his silence on what he claims has been a months-long campaign on the part of the British banking system to make him a financial “unperson.” Without explanation, his longtime banking partner abruptly informed him they would close all his accounts, and no other bank seems willing to accept his business.

Let That Sink In

Ed Morrissey;

Happy birthday, America — and RIP to its newly erected “Ministry of Truth.” That term comes directly from federal Judge Terry Doughty in the Western District of Louisiana, who issued an injunction a couple of hours ago that takes direct aim at the government-media censorship complex. Concluding that plaintiffs in the lawsuit have a strong likelihood of proving that the US government suppressed dissent — and particularly conservative dissent — Doughty ordered the Biden administration and its executive agencies to cease any coordination with social-media companies…

The Censorship Industrial Complex

Michael Shellenberger;

The war on free speech is hardly a novel phenomenon, instead mutating over the centuries. What is new, however, is its global aspirations: today, the conflict takes the form of a world war.

You can see its shadow in every Western country, from the US and Canada to Ireland and Australia, as well as in every multinational organisation, from the EU to the UN. Rising levels of hate speech and misinformation, we are told, make it more urgent than ever for governments, corporations and multilateral organisations to adopt stronger measures to protect vulnerable populations online.

Facebook/Instagram (meta)- Changes to News Availability on Our Platforms in Canada

Updated on June 22nd, 2023

Today, we are confirming that news availability will be ended on Facebook and Instagram for all users in Canada prior to the Online News Act (Bill C-18) taking effect.

We have repeatedly shared that in order to comply with Bill C-18, passed today in Parliament, content from news outlets, including news publishers and broadcasters, will no longer be available to people accessing our platforms in Canada.

No speech for you!

Some foolish ideas just refuse to die. Ideas like the claim that laws against murder are an infringement on freedom, but a very acceptable and necessary infringement. It never takes long for someone to take that preposterous argument to the next level, and before you know it there’s no freedom for anyone.

You will see throughout our constitution, yes you have rights, but they are restricted for the common good. Everything needs to be balanced.

“If your views on other people’s identities go to make their lives unsafe, insecure and cause them such deep discomfort that they cannot live in peace then I believe that it is our job, as legislators, to restrict those freedoms, for the common good,” Ms O’Reilly added.

Unfortunately, the Irish Green Party’s views on the nature of freedom would be right at home here in Canada. Our entire constitution is based on the idea that every individual has freedom…until a majority of the tribe decides that you don’t.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out …

This column talks about how Pipeline Online has now seen evidence of its links being silenced by Facebook to a small number of Facebook users. On the same day, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s Facebook account was banned from posting content.

This is 1984 in real time, folks. Whether you like or don’t like my content, soon all news content, including that which you do like, may soon be banned from Facebook, and possibly Google, too.
