Y2Kyoto: The Art Of Theatre

the EU is in serious trouble on power grids. they chased a made up green dream where over-priced and under-reliable power sources like wind and solar were subsidized and mandated into adoption while longstanding and effective nuclear was shut down (though france did mostly keep theirs). and now, as they rapidly discover their newfound dependence on geopolitical rival russia and desperately need solutions, what is the grand plan of france?

to turn off the streetlights.

  1. Turn off the streetlights in France? And in unison … all the Muslim Terrorist Refugees cheered. They all Ululate in unison … along with their ANTIFA and BLM brethren

  2. Good. 😀 At least, “good” from a purely selfish point of view. I want the EU to have massive energy problems because it will expedite a solution that can be applied before the same ilk in the US ruin our energy grid. My personal belief is that there will be shoebox sized fusion generators available on the market before things get that bad here (with the exception of those states already infested with the “sky is falling” mentality…aka California). There are a massive number of start up companies working on that right now, and making decent progress. One such start-up (Avalanche Energy) is made up of a group of Blue Origin employees who left in a pack and started the company back in 2018…and they are absolutely shocked that they haven’t run into anything insurmountable in the development phase just yet.

    1. Orson – Commonwealth Fusion and MIT have been planning for several years to build a fusion reactor by 2025. They have a lot of money behind them.

“In September 2021, the company announced the demonstration of a high temperature superconducting magnet, able to generate magnetic fields of 20 Tesla.[16][17] According to the New York Times, this was a successful test of “…the world’s most powerful version of the type of magnet crucial to many fusion efforts…”[18]

In November 2021, the company raised an additional $1.8 billion in Series B funding to construct and operate the SPARC Tokamak”

      1. Fusion’s been “just around the corner” for more than 40 years. I’ll believe it when they’ve achieved a long-term sustainable reaction.

Most such research projects are simply money-harvesting machines. Get on and stay on the gravy train.

        1. Agreed. Got snookered 30 year ago when they discovered super cooling devices or some such that was going to enable the creation and use of superconductors and or fusion any time soon. Again that was thirty year’s ago. Never invest in any company listed on the VSE.

          1. Never invest in any company listed on the VSE.

Yup. I used to buy penny stock listed on the Vancouver exchange. (“It’s gonna go up!”) I lost more money doing that than I made. The last time I tried that, my broker asked me, “How much can you afford to lose?” Sure enough, the stock tanked.

That was before I started doing my homework. I lost less money doing things that way by avoiding some obvious clunkers.

  3. Next week’s headlines in French newspapers: violent street crime up 1,000%

  4. Thank you, Kate. Absolutely brilliant link! The graphic comparing temperatures 2012 vs 2022 was especially telling. How is it so many can be deceived so easily? I don’t have an answer. Never, in the history of the world, have so many been lied to by so few. With apologies to Winston Churchill.

  5. Using legislation to shoehorn idiocy into the economy is a long-standing tradition. One of the earlier instances of it was shoehorning women into the workforce, resulting in lower wages, shrieking Karens on the shop floor taking down the pin-up calendars and HR depts spawning like weeds.

  6. Never attribute to stupidity that which can be explained by malevolence. Rationing energy is their ultimate goal just like any other commodity. Soviet bread lines and lining up for coupons wasn’t a bug of communism it was actual economic policy.
And precisely why the Dutch gov’t has advised affected farmers demonstrating against Holland’s green initiatives to sell their land to Blackrock and Vanguard.
We had better wake the hell up because it’s coming to a theatre near us.

  7. Put a motion detector on the damn streetlights. You don’t need all of them lit up all the time. That’s stupid. Look at crime maps. Where there are security issues keep them on. But most places they can be turned off.

    Ring cams are everywhere now.

Time to be smart and do smart.

    1. You best acquire an EE degree before suggesting such an idiotic thing. And PS … street lights are not your average incandescent or even LED bulb … more like mercury vapor and metal hallide… not conducive to repeated on-off cycling.

      1. more like mercury vapor and metal hallide

Most street lamps I’ve seen in recent years have been replaced by LEDs. They don’t impress me, not just for the harsh light they produce but that they create a lot of radio frequency interference in a number of the amateur bands.

  8. When winter and energy problems cripple Europe, little Greta Thunberg would be well advised to remain in hiding in Sweden. People who are freezing in the dark probably won’t be ….. um…..
    receptive to her bullshit.

    1. Unfortunately it will never happen. The people are too afraid of the petite climate god and her infinite powers. How dare you!
Don’t believe me, we still have Trudeau for another 3 years despite the absolute decimation of this country’s soul and finances.

      1. The only reason we have him for another three years is because of the stinking, turbaned, orange pustule dangling from his arse. Eliminate Singh, and Trudie is a goner.

  9. Ahahahah. Paris is the City of Light no more. Looks like Chruchill’s warning will come to fruition that France and by extension the west “will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.” Thank God they wanted to tear down that misogynist racist bastards statue. Except the enemy is not Hitler but Fascism made right here in the west under our noses.

  10. I get it.. I would rather mate with my dog than vote for the feckless morons we have running our country.. They serve no purpose beyond levying boycotts and sanctions on their own people.. Like a child pulling the legs off a insect they have no concept of what they are doing..

I have no interest in participating in this game.. Come what may..
