Shocking discoveries

Central planners are upset that the latest plan is not being implemented as smoothly as they imagined in their dreams.

It seems that too many comrades are not following correct procedures thereby undermining the narrative.

However, a recent inspection blitz found several hundred instances of unsafe chargers being installed. Fraser said the blitz was started after realizing how few permits had been issued compared to the thousands of vehicles being registered.

In just one area of Toronto, they found over 400 unsafe working chargers without a permit in a 10-month period.

“We’ve seen people plugging an extension cord into a stove outlet in their kitchen, dangling it through the window and hanging it through the tree in order to charge their car.”

  1. Ok, call me a cynic…but I didn’t see anything in that article identifying where these “illegal” charging methods caused a tragedy or even a documented incident.

What I did see is the word “licensing.” Which is code for…”the government gets their cut of the action.”

Is this really an unsafe issue? Or, is the government making sure they get their scratch?

  2. A permit to charge your EV. Bwahahaha!! Nice one, Canada.
I smell the rotten stench of the CSA.

  3. The total IDIOTS rushing out to buy a fancy new EV need to consider the following …

    https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/articles/ev-charging-home

All mass-produced electric vehicles today include a 110-volt-compatible (Level 1) charging unit which is able to be plugged into any standard 110v household outlet. The downside of EV charging with a 110v outlet is that it takes a while. Level 1 charging provides approximately four to five miles of range per hour charged. For an eight-hour overnight charge, this will enable traveling around 36 to 40 miles …

All these morons plugging their EV into a 110V wall socket aren’t getting anywhere NEAR the promised range of their vehicle on an overnight charge. And if you have a 240v outlet … you can double your paltry charge to a maximum range of about 180miles.

Yes … EV’s are glorified golf carts … like those driven by retirees to the neighborhood grocery store and back. A nice novelty car … nothing more.

    1. This is Canada. If you drive a golf cart to the neighborhood grocery store, the cops will confiscate your cart, impound it at your expense, and fine you. Canada is much, much worse than Cali, as far as regs are concerned.

  4. Luxury virtue signal vehicle, yet can’t afford a proper charger connection.
    The center of Canada!

    Get your carbon tax rebate?

    1. Talking about carbon tax rebate, 0.5% is the going rate for receiving government larges by supporting a family member of the Prime Minister. With the 270 bucks I received last week, where do I send the 1.35 I ow the Trudeau family? Is it possible to setup automatic deposit every 3 month? Could I support the Trudeau family with 135 bucks and get a carbon tax rebate reflecting my great appreciation? I don’t want to disagree or displease Justin as I know that that entails long prison sentences in a country with free speech. Asking for a friend.

      1. At least you get something.

In NB Progressive(putative) Conservative Premier Higgs confiscated it.

Apparently his .24%( yes that is actually almost a whole 1/4 %) tax reduction exhausted his (putative) Conservative credentials.

You’ll know the Liberals Disinformation/Censorship law is working when the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party is forced to stop using the word Conservative to describe their ABC(anything but conservative) party.

Then again he is Premier of a province that could easily be a province of China if it wasn’t owned by the Irvings, who have graciously allowed the NB government to proudly supply 57% of the economy(they supply the rest) whilst even gifting one of their executives top be Premier.

  5. You should think about charging before you buy an EV.

My sister has a Tesla and loves it. But they put in a proper charge port in their garage BEFORE they bought their car.

They have a long range so they don’t have any range anxiety issue.

They bought a spitload of used solar panels for $0.20 on the dollar that are still running at 65 to 70 % efficiency and can pretty much power anything including my brother in law’s farm workshop.

They have a couple ponds they use as a hydro battery and draw it down with a micro turbine.

On winter they pull from the grid which is fine. They are not purists. They are highly rational business focussed people that look at roi. So big deal. Pull from the grid in winter. They still are miles ahead in $. The panels were pretty much a 2 year payback.

Overall it’s a pretty good setup.

We are doing the same at our place under construction. He’s got extra undeployed panels that we are gonna use.

But you need to be smart. You need to plan. If you just go and buy a Tesla for the hellofit you might be in for a surprise.

    1. The ROI of charge time required for the fully advertised EV range … is a total LOSER. EV owners MUST BE the idle rich. It makes no sense for the rest of us. Time is $$$

      1. EV owners MUST BE the idle rich.

One incentive to become wealthy, eh?

      2. Yes. But the tech is improving here so fast now Kenji. New superchargers now being installed that give a 10 minute fill to 95% on a LiPO4battery.
It will take a few years to install but it’s coming.

Again don’t buy a Tesla and expect the world to bend to your needs. Do your damned research!

    2. Before you get all giddy over solar panel installation, here is an article that you might want to read.

      https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-07-14/california-rooftop-solar-pv-panels-recycling-danger

As these solar units become less productive the government will implement a tax on their disaposal. Consider the maintenance costs and ultimate disposal of wind turbines and the net zero is a kick ass way for governments to steal more of your money to implement hary-fairy, pie-in-the-sky, unicorn pharts and pixie-dust programs to con you out of your hard earned money. Re-newable energy has as much future as the fifth booster shot.

  6. I’m curious. People with electric cars are not paying the taxes that are attached to gasoline. Therefore, people with electric cars are not contributing to the repair and upkeep of the roadways. Yet, they get to use the roadways all the same.

Three guesses how they will solve this conundrum…and the first two don’t count. This relates to the above, because we are currently in the “honeymoon” phase of electric cars. In short, they wish to bait people into purchasing them. Once enough of them are on the road, then they will apply a tax to the electrical charging devices….which is why they don’t want you getting creative in your charging techniques.

    1. Separate power meters on the charge port will be the next step. “Road use” taxes will be applied per kWH.

      1. They want more.
        On ALL road going vehicles.
Using a GPS unit tied to .gov computers track where you go and the mileage.
At the end of the month you get a bill in the mail for miles traveled or it gets billed to your CC or debit account.
You agree to it or you don’t get your tags or a plate.
Add this to the myriad of fuel , tolls and registration fees you will still have to pay.
Already being setup in several American states.
        Coming here soon.

They want to price you out of your vehicle and into mass transit or a bicycle.
One good thing from this will be a lot less obese people.

    2. I’m kind of glad to pay less taxes due to less fuel consumption from a plug in hybrid. Road construction is only used to annoy motorists here, nothing gets fixed, road sections that haven’t been that bad get done again. Recently I drove by road construction where the hole for the curb stone replacement just wasn’t big enough for the 12 people standing in and around it with another 4 sitting in city trucks. As for the 5600 bucks premium I paid for my car I safe 300 bucks in fuel every month in my particular use scenario makes for a ROI of around 2 years.

  7. (Was it the tire companies that convinced politicians to get rid of street cars for buses?)

I’ve got an outlet on the outside of my house.
When the power goes out it allows me to plug in my generator and switch my panel feed.
    (A master electrician installed them.)
    It’s called Plan B.

I’ve read there just isn’t enough grid capacity/capability for all these cars. Local transformers will need to be upgraded.
That ain’t cheap, but everyone will have to pay.
Does it also mean more nuclear plants or hydro dams?
Now add in the scenario that the crazies envision: everybody also using electric heat only to warm their houses.
Then add in only using “renewables” to supply that power.
Now add an ice storm, a tornado, a derecho.

I’m not an engineer and if I was, nobody would listen.

  8. MATH TIME. A litre of gas contains 9 Kw of energy. A tesla uses 22 Kw per mile. Electricity costs $0.17 per Kw in YQT. Think the price of electricity won’t go thru the roof?

    1. Your math is a bit off. My BMW 330e does 30-40 kilometre for 10 Kw charge, so 22 Kw per mile can’t be right. There is a lot of BS info about EV’s and plugin hybrids on the internet. Same for the use scenarios. Plugging your car in in the evening at home much like your cellphone is really asking too much? Filling up the tank in winter at -35 on a slow gas pump is so much more pleasant apparently. I had people arguing with me that it takes 15 years to recoup the money I spend on the car as if any other car wouldn’t depreciate over the years. Does Chevrolet hand out free Suburban SUV’s knowing that the owner spend a fortune in fuel over the life of the vehicle? Choice of gas or electric is a good thing unfortunately the government thinks it should make the choice for us by making cheep energy expensive so expensive energy appears to be cheep.
