A muslim who raped a 13-year-old girl he groomed on Facebook has been spared a prison sentence after a judge heard he went to an Islamic faith school where he was taught that women are worthless.
Adil Rashid, 18, claimed he was not aware that it was illegal for him to have sex with the girl because his education left him ignorant of British law.
Yesterday Judge Michael Stokes handed Rashid a suspended sentence, saying: ‘Although chronologically 18, it is quite clear from the reports that you are very naive and immature when it comes to sexual matters.’

The Sound Of Settled Science
After the planet’s average surface temperature rose through the 1990s, the increase has almost leveled off at the level of 2000, while ocean water temperature has also stabilized, the Research Council of Norway said in a statement on its website. After applying data from the past decade, the results showed temperatures may rise 1.9 degrees Celsius if Co2 levels double by 2050, below the 3 degrees predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The National Post has learned;
… that before sending the bribe, GEI enlisted former Canadian prime minister Jean Chrétien to help advance its interests in Chad.
Mr. Chrétien is counsel for Heenan Blaikie, one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious law firms. He sometimes meets with foreign officials to promote companies that his firm represents. Heenan Blaikie has in recent years been focused on mining ventures in Africa.
Neither Mr. Chrétien nor anyone else at Heenan Blaikie has been accused with participating in the crime, which began Aug. 30, 2009 and ended with the illicit $2-million payment on Feb. 8, 2011. Neither Mr. Chrétien nor Heenan Blaikie is named in the court case’s agreed statement of facts. Rather, they are identified as a “high-level” official and a “Canadian law firm,” respectively.

One Small Step For Socialism
One giant leap for renewables;
“Business is up 100 percent,” said Mitsionis, 42, constantly interrupted by phone calls from clients. “Everybody is flocking to buy, poor and rich alike — this crisis has put the fear of God into everyone.”
In a desperate move to plug its fiscal holes and meet its budget targets under an EU/IMF bailout, the government has hiked energy taxes, driving heating oil costs up to 40 percent higher.
In addition, a flurry of taxes due this fall, including a property levy slapped on electricity bills and a one-off “solidarity” income tax, means many cash-strapped families are facing hundreds or even thousands of euros in extra bills in the first months of winter.
This is when Greeks, most of whom live in apartment buildings, must pay to fill the diesel-fired boilers for the building’s central heating. Many residents are declining to pay their share of the heating oil bill, forcing building managers to cancel or slash orders to a minimum.
“I have switched off the central heating and use nothing but the stove instead,” said Theodora Doukiri, 39, a cleaning lady in Athens.

Canada’s Destructive Teachers’ Unions in 2013: Out of Place, Out of Time
More than a few Canadians have noticed how incredibly backwards and downright unruly public sector teachers’ unions across Canada continue to be. Listening to the rhetoric of their leaders, one should be forgiven for thinking they’ve been transported back to a 1920’s Marxist-Communist rally. Not too long ago Margarete Wente wrote a column about the Ontario Teachers’ Union. A few days ago Jon Ferry did the same about the BC Teachers’ Union.
Today, Roy Green discussed Ferry’s column with him. It’s well worth a listen!

The obvious Canadian question is, “When will the media on Parliament Hill be replaced by grown-ups who will hold the Liberal and NDP politicians accountable?” Would asking for this even just once a month be too much?!

Not only are the Liberals forcing electricity consumers (us) to spend outrageous amounts of cash buying wind power via the 20-year, no-cut contracts they’ve signed with the wind industry, they’ve also stipulated that whenever wind power is produced, it has to be bought before all other forms of energy.
And since we have an energy surplus in Ontario because of our depressed economy, when the province buys wind power, it has to dump cheaper forms of energy like hydro power, or sell it, often at a loss, to Quebec or the U.S.

Chase Power, the parent company behind the $3 billion Las Brisas coal power plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, announced yesterday that it was cancelling the project.
[…]
Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.
The Las Brisas power plant had been part of a larger Las Brisas Energy Center project planned for Corpus Christi’s Inner Harbor.Economists had projected that in the first 5 years of construction and operation the project would create as 1,300 direct and 2,600 indirect jobs. Now none of those jobs will exist.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a setback for President Barack Obama, a federal appeals court ruled Friday that he violated the Constitution in making recess appointments last year, a decision that could severely curtail the president’s ability to bypass the Senate to fill administration vacancies.
