YNoKyoto: Throw Another Climate Conference On The Barbie

Up in flames;

Representatives of most of the world’s poor countries have walked out of increasingly fractious climate negotiations after the EU, Australia, the US and other developed countries insisted that the question of who should pay compensation for extreme climate events be discussed only after 2015.
The orchestrated move by the G77 and China bloc of 132 countries came during talks about “loss and damage” – how countries should respond to climate impacts that are difficult or impossible to adapt to, such as typhoon Haiyan.
Saleemul Huq, the scientist whose work on loss and damage helped put the issue of recompense on the conference agenda, said: “Discussions were going well in a spirit of co-operation, but at the end of the session on loss and damage Australia put everything agreed into brackets, so the whole debate went to waste.”
Australia was accused of not taking the negotiations seriously. “They wore T-shirts and gorged on snacks throughout the negotiation. That gives some indication of the manner they are behaving in,” said a spokeswoman for Climate Action Network.

They can say what they like about Monsanto, but when a person buys RoundupĀ®, they generally get RoundupĀ®;

Using a test called DNA barcoding, a kind of genetic fingerprinting that has also been used to help uncover labeling fraud in the commercial seafood industry, Canadian researchers tested 44 bottles of popular supplements sold by 12 companies. They found that many were not what they claimed to be, and that pills labeled as popular herbs were often diluted — or replaced entirely — by cheap fillers like soybean, wheat and rice. […]
Of 44 herbal supplements tested, one-third showed outright substitution, meaning there was no trace of the plant advertised on the bottle — only another plant in its place.

The Sound Of Settled Science

Study Confirms Computer Simulations Unable To Accurately Predict Precipitation”

The vast, multi-billion expenditure on tools that can’t accurately predict may indeed further needed climate research, but as for model outputs being a sound foundation for policymakers, they’re worthless.
This new study confirms that conclusion. Since policymakers need to thoughtfully plan for changes in future precipitation levels, this peer reviewed research makes it clear computer simulations are inappropriate and misleading tools to base policy on.

Greenpeace jumps the Beluga;

Russians aren’t very fond of Greenpeace. The majority of people polled by the VTsIOM public opinion research centre aren’t disapproving of the arrest of the ecologists who climbed the Prirazlomnaya oil rig but suspect other motives to be behind the Prirazlomnaya action apart from environmental protection.
In the West, there seems to be no particular fondness for Greenpeace either. The Internet is full of sarcastic comments on the “adventures” of Greenpeace activists in the Arctic.

Burlington Free Press:

U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., says it’s time to pull the plug on America’s commitment to manufacturing ethanol as a way to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil. “It’s been a flop,” Welch said in an interview last week. “It was well intentioned, but it’s been a flop.”
Welch said he began revising his views on ethanol following discussions with Franklin County farmers who told them that ethanol in gasoline was wrecking the engines of their farm machinery and driving up the cost of feed corn.

Peace Be Upon Him

Via Breitbart:

Curiously enough, in his version of the speech, President Barack Obama’s delivery contained an omission – in a line that every other celebrity delivered as “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom,” the President left out the words “under God.”

This Is Awkward

Redstate:

Via Alex Hern on Twitter, we find that the Obamacare website has attempted website attacks in its search box, automatically prompted for you if you type or mistype the right letters or punctuation.
This tells us a few things: there is a lack of polish in the Healthcare.gov website, there are many people who want to break into the website, and there isn’t much confidence in the security of the website. All of these things should be troubling to people with data in that system.

Update: “There are actual live vulnerabilities on the site now,” David Kennedy, head of computer security consulting firm TrustedSec LLC, told Reuters ahead of his testimony at a Congressional hearing on the topic “Is My Data on HealthCare.gov Secure?”

Falsified Employment Numbers

Is there nothing that Obama can’t do?

In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington.
The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated.
And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it.
[…]
The Census employee caught faking the results is Julius Buckmon, according to confidential Census documents obtained by The Post. Buckmon told me in an interview this past weekend that he was told to make up information by higher-ups at Census.

Where they got the idea remains a mystery.
Flashback – They unemployment rate “truthers”.
