Taken today.

In October 2014, I had a special appointment at the American Embassy in Ottawa. One evening I walked around with my camera and tripod and took a bunch of long exposure photos, most around 30 seconds long. Given what’s happening in Ottawa these days, I thought some of you might appreciate seeing some of these photos.  It’s definitely a very pretty city.

Last week I spent 4 days in Florence, Alabama (next door to Muscle Shoals) and then 2 days in Birmingham. Consistently met wonderful people throughout my travels. Got back to Pensacola late yesterday afternoon and captured some photos just before sunset. According to my 4-year old [Canadian] “niece” in Walnut Creek, California, this blue heron’s name is “Six-Six”. I assume she saw the stick-like legs and altered the pronunciation a little.

Unrelated: Check out the real estate listings in Florence. I stayed in an AirBnb in a well appointed 4-bedroom / 2-bathroom home in a great neighbourhood. It’s listed for just $146,000! Got me thinking . . .

Update: Thanks for all of the kind words.  I’m truly blessed to have some great photography equipment these days.  I didn’t realize that so many others were also big fans of pelicans.  If you’re interested, you can view the larger set here.

Another of the Horned Grebe. What a cool little bird.

Captured in Lafayette and Eunice, Louisiana this past week.  FYI the sign hangs in T-Coons diner.  The owner, of the same name, said that only 1 in 500 people would understand the reference.  I would suspect that a much higher percentage of SDA’ers would know it.

I took a quick trip down to the farm yesterday and snapped a few shots with my new Canon Rebel T7. Some were taken at dusk, so the light was what it was.

The Jefferson homestead, one of the oldest in the region. The hand-hewn timbers held up for well over a century, but it’s finally giving way.

On a short drive within a three mile radius of the farm last evening we spotted at least 4 moose, dozens of whitetails, countless Canada geese (they were flying overhead in flocks numbering in the hundreds) and a Great Horned Owl.

It was nearly dark by then, so excuse the graininess.

Make snow pictures.

Our average high at this time of year is 7.3°C.

But in Saskatchewan, “average” is just a mathematical calculation that reduces the possible extremes to a single imaginary point.
