    1. Now John, the referendum was in no way an IQ test. If anything, it was testing how seriously you take the local politics. That’s by no means the same as intelligence. Indeed, they may not correlate.

It’s hardly surprising that 80% of city voters went no. The cities are full of people who just got here, most of whom expect to be moving on. There’s no reason why they should care, and it’s probably better if they don’t. They’ve got more important things to worry about, like their lives.

Out in the country, the results looked quite healthy. We easily overlook how many people have no real need to concern themselves with politics, and don’t, beyond the most casual level. It isn’t a bad thing, as long as they don’t get in the way of the rest of us. Which isn’t really happening yet.

    2. See that post earlier “Knights of De Rod” where fake primary IDs, a driver’s license, could be generated and bought?
Well, a bogus ID like those was all that was needed to make an online ‘mail-in’ vote during the referendum.
No mail-in voting should ever be permitted. Ever.
At the beginning when Danielle Smith talked about who could vote in the referendum she stated that only those who had voted in the 2023 election were eligible to vote. That was about 800,000 voters.
There were 1.2 million mail-in votes. Almost all of them were Option 1 votes.

  1. Looking at the numbers, either stats canada is incompetent or someone is putting their thumb on the scale.

In 2026, only the January numbers are anywhere close to what was originally reported:

Month Originally reported Latest revised Notes
    Jan +45.6 ~+44.4 Similar

How can you trust numbers that have spreads of up to 37,000 jobs that they “missed” or 41k jobs that they “overcounted”?

I guess Stats Canada uses the same software as the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the US.
Job Numbers Revisions During the Biden Administration
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has made significant downward revisions to job creation figures during President Biden’s administration. Here are the key details:
      Overview of Revisions
Total Jobs Revised: More than 900,000 jobs were revised downward for the years 2024 and 2025.
Significance: This revision is noted as the largest on record for the BLS.

  2. The pathological fabricator, dialectic orator, and beloved bankster can never be believed on any maters of significance. He pays an in-house court-eunuch media to ensure digestion by the incurious grazers with your money.

  3. No problem for Little Lord Carnage, his minions will just stop reporting the real numbers completely.
Will running endless adds of “Canada Strong”.
And bragging of our “Good Governance”.
And the Elbozo’s will repeat every lie, singing the praises of Dear Leader..
That 40 cent dollar looks more likely every day.

  4. Thanks for this post. Both the paytolls and LFS data both show job losses in late summer, confirming we are in an economic recession. This morning my brokerage firm discussed the third quarter reports from eight Canadian companies. Seven missed consensus estimates, and one (the one I own shares of) reported good results. Monthly bankruptcies are climbing. The signs are everywhere.

Yes the corporate media blob keeps silent. And regurgitates paid federal feel-good advertising.

  5. The actual facts don’t seem to impact the legions of gulled, credulous Canadian sheeple who keep getting constantly fire hosed by sound bites like this one: “Canada is projected to have second fastest growth in the G7 this year and next…”

What a wan, platitudinous buffoon. ANYONE who’d put stock in ANYTHING this smug, desiccated credentialist technocrat utters has to have an empty husk for a brain!

And a significant plurality of Canadians seem to be lapping this up

    America, please bomb us.

  6. An economy can look resilient until the revised numbers arrive.

Funny how that works out. Every. Single. Time.

  7. These job numbers should be a catalyst to lower the central rate…yet it rose…this scares me immensely as I fear inflation is pushing past our slowing economy. We may be looking at another recession next year with stagflation to boot. I am very worried.

    1. The Word of the Day is: Stagflation
That’s one of the reasons why I’m betting on your loonie to become the next carry trade outlet of significance.

    1. Why do you think Carney wanted Canada in as ‘associate member’ of the EU? When’s the next election for EU President? (I’m sure Ursula could help out with creating rules so ‘associate members’ could hold that position if given a few years to work her magic spells). Come to think of it, with this new info, who would be perfectly lined up to take LaGarde’s place as head of the EU bank even…if only Canada was an associate member? I mean, my goodness, the man is perfect for the job! (and yes, I am being facetious about his perfection, if looked at from a moral lens…immoral, perhaps not so facetious after all)

  8. If numbers like these keep popping up, it’s only a matter of time until Macklem walks back his interest rate hikes.

  9. Nope….Bulgaria joined the E.U.
    I’m just fishing for Comparisons.
Afghanistan is the poorest ally of China. So… there’s that.

  10. In a related story of garbage government numbers … The US FED recently raised and then froze interest rates … because … the Iran war has temporarily increased fuel prices, which has fueled a new round of inflation.

So someone explain to me how RAISING interest rates is going to cure artificially high diesel prices? When in fact, much of those diesel purchases are made by credit/credit card. So isn’t the FED actually worsening inflation, if not individual wealth by increasing interest rates?

Yeah, some 40 years ago, I stopped believing … “the experts” … had any idea what they’re doing.

    1. Pretty certain we are not seeing the proper positive results of his policies because of moles and spite.

    2. From a more ‘nefarious conspiracy’ angle, because we have some people on the Fed board who are playing politics (hint: they’re on Team Blue…and also old school Team Red…but most likely not Team America) — that’s also probably where the “lowering diesel costs” story comes into play: sounds good on electioneering paper.
From a less nefarious, conspiratorial angle: because the time honored ‘fix’ for an overheating economy is to raise interest rates, although this time maybe not such a good idea. Still, old dogs trying to learn new tricks.
