A Canadian citizen named Paige Adamson has been living as a U.S. Permanent Resident in Point Robert, WA and recently died. For those not aware, Point Roberts is a unique peninsula that is part of Washington State, but is not connected by land to the rest of the state. It’s about a 50 kilometre drive south of Vancouver, BC.
Somehow it came to light that Adamson had elected to vote in American elections. As her immigration attorney said here, it was revealed that she had indeed voted in a past election. Given that she had illegally voted, she was scheduled to attend a deportation hearing.
Of course, this is a tragic situation, for which I assume everyone feels heartbroken for her and her family. But imagine if a foreign national was found to be voting in a Canadian election and was being deported because of it. Then this person unexpectedly died while still in Canada. Would the Canadian authorities be in the wrong for demanding this person’s deportation?
Of course, the usual suspects are blaming President Trump for her death.

Story I saw several days ago said she was warned on her last crossing for health reasons that she was subject to an immigration hearing, I guess for the reason here.
She chose not to go get health care as her condition worsened out of fear. Friends and family tried to get her to go.
TDS so bad she gave her life up.
Should this happen in Canada we would hold a state funeral.

I grew up in nearby Delta (properly Tsawwassen, which no-one can pronounce properly). As kids, we used to ride our bikes over the border into Point Roberts to buy Pop Rocks and other candy we couldn’t get in Canada. Maybe Mr. Pibb. If you have never been there, there ain’t much but seaweed and trees. That border crossing makes it look like a real something. I don’t know if there are doctors there but there are a bunch just down the road in Canada. Very sad story.
Why would you be afraid to be deported to Canada? That makes no sense.

Our parents retired to White Rock and keep their sail boat moored at the marina in Point Roberts. Enjoyed many a good sail day. Dad would always buy American cheese, eggs and milk on the way back. He was on first name terms with many of the border guards. They would trade sailing stories.

How did she wind up on a voter list in the first place? And if she did manage to vote, why punish her as opposed to the electoral officials who allowed her to do so?
BECAUSE……she VOTED not the elected officials…….here is an example: suppose the BANK makes a mistake and ALL OF A SUDDEN you have $100,000.00 in your bank account…….this “person” keeps the $$$ and starts spending even tho this person knows it isn’t his/her $$$$….THAT PERSON IS CHARGED with theft, NOT the bank …..see how that works??
That’s actually not how that works. The bank is the one making the mistake, not the account holder. They would not be charged with theft. Any spent funds would have to be replaced by the bank.
You better ask for a refund from the law school you attended. If an obviously incorrect amount of money shows up in your bank account and you spend it, you are going to jail. Similarly, if you find something valuable and don’t make reasonable attempts to find the owner (normally by reporting it to police) you have committed theft.

Maybe it is different where you live, but in many places the person is absolutely responsible for having spent funds that just show up in their account, even if it was due to a bank error.
Banks can claw back the money, and the person can be charged with theft.

For every single $Dollar they have on deposit, they lend thousands of $Dollars in many types of loans.
This is actually one of the fundamental causes of inflation, lending money with zero productivity.
That’s why the sub-prime mortgage fiasco occurred in 2008. People who couldn’t pay back their first mortgage loans got second and third mortgages and used their homes like they were ATM machines.
Barak Obama was hugely responsible for the sub-prime mortgages by being a community organizer in Chicago. He protested the Citi-Group Banks, accusing them of “Red Lining”, which meant they were refusing to lend on the basis of race. The reality was that certain demographic groups had a larger cohort of high-risk borrowers. Citi Bank was cowed into issuing sub-prime loans and the rest is history.
Oh, I forgot. The banks had to eat the money lost in sub-prime loans. The whole thing caused wicked inflation.
Barak Obama, then President, doubled the national debt by borrowing to create “liquidity” in the “privately owned American banks” early in his first term.
They all continue to issue sub-prime loans to this day.

She clicked a check box on her application for a US drivers license that also added her to the voting list. By doing so, she was attesting that she was eligible to do so.
That could have been a mistake (maybe). But actually *voting* was not…and her claims that she “couldn’t remember” if she had voted were ridiculous.
Try to use that logic for the millions of Illegals from Mexico that have voted in multiple elections.

If I recall, when she got her WA DL, she got registered to vote at the same time, which she should have denied if she was paying attention.
It used to be Americans were accused of being ignorant, but clearly, Canadians have taken that mantle with vigor!

Washington is mail ballot only. There is no longer polling places to vote.
There are drop boxes around the communities, or it can be postal mailed. With (some) terrible mail services, this is why a question of How long to wait for ballots to come in is a Thing.
She essentially did MAID without medical assistance or Canada. Point Roberts has only 1,200 people so it likely has maybe one doctor for sniffles. There would be no mega-million diagnostic equipment. Apparently when British surveyors realized that Point Roberts would be in Canada they felt sorry for the Americans offering a 5 square mile swap which was not replied to. Point Roberts and the Northwest Angle are two American exclaves resulting from negotiations in London predating the survey. A land swap could have ended the stupidity but Americans seem to love stupidity.
When I had to renew my driver’s license here in Montana some years ago, they asked me if I wanted to register to vote. I said no, because I am not a citizen. I can’t say for sure if this was after I had shown my green card as part of my identification.
So I do have a few questions on this story. Did she decline to register when asked at the DMV while getting a driver’s license, but then someone fraudulently registered her without her knowledge? Having done so, did someone then vote on her behalf? It is known that there is a lot of voter fraud in the United States, so it would not surprise me if this was the case.
It’s unfortunate that she has died, but I do hope that they continue to investigate this. The “there is no voter fraud” people won’t want anything more to be done.

Right! What if you lived in downtown Philadelphia in 2020 where almost everyone was marked as voting to account for that truckload of unfolded machine printed ballots. It appears as if all those black people just had to get off their asses to vote for the segregationist friend of the Klan, Joe Biden. Or maybe only half of them actually voted and the rest were stroked off the list to account for the fake ballots.
