Let Me Be The First To Welcome Our Robot Overlords

Interesting Engineering- 10 of the most advanced military robots in the world

The army is already using automated machines for a variety of purposes — from transportation, training, search and rescue, to clearing mines, fighting fire, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

Most commonly, military robots can be broken down into three types: Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV).

Stalemate forever

Back in January, I attended a talk by Peter Zeihan in which he openly mocked the Russian army for losing so much hardware during the initial invasion of the Ukraine that they were forced to ferry men and material to the front in civilian vans. I have no idea where his information came from, but the reality is that collapse of the Russian war effort is about as imminent as an earthquake in Manitoba.

When the conflict began, I sensed that a WWI stalemate would be the likely outcome. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for mass desertions or mutiny among the Ukrainian forces to completely upend the West’s strategy.

Ukraine’s military chief, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, says in a long essay and interview with the Economist that “just like in the First World War we have reached the level of technology that puts us into a stalemate.”

He acknowledges: “There will most likely be no deep and beautiful breakthrough,” but instead an equilibrium of devastating losses and destruction.

Update (by Kate):

U.S. and European officials have begun quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia might entail to end the war, according to one current senior U.S. official and one former senior U.S. official familiar with the discussions.

The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. Some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives from more than 50 nations supporting Ukraine, including NATO members, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the officials said.

And How’s Your Day Going?

Update: it’s always in the last place you look.

“… recruiting numbers are lower than Kamala’s IQ”

Why fight for an elite that hates you? Here at home, we see normal, traditional Americans dragged through the dirt by a garbage ruling class that wants to castrate our kids, seize our weapons, and lock us out of political participation. When we protest, we’re terrorists – little did we know that it was an assault on Our Democracy for those of us who served and our families to presume to participate in it.

Our service means nothing to them. We are expendable and ignorable, unless we get uppity, and then we get their flunkies’ full attention. We just saw a guy with two Purple Hearts get nearly two decades in prison for a rowdy ruckus on Capitol Hill, a minor scuffle (except for when the government killed an unarmed protester) that was dwarfed in intensity and violence by the Los Angeles riots I helped suppress while in uniform. But our ruling class approved of scumbags like the Los Angeles rioters just like it approves of the BLM and Antifa scumbags who ran rampant across the country in 2020 and killed dozens of people. One of them burned a guy alive, and the Department of Justice, the same one that wants to steal decades of life from veterans for the crime of having dissident political views, actually went to bat for the killer and explained that this arsonist was merely upset by systematic racism or some other garbage. He got just 10 years.

Brian Berletic- As US standards fall, military less trusted

The US military is considered the most trusted institution in America by the American people. It is more trusted than the media, big American businesses, the criminal justice system, and even the elected representatives that make up the US Congress. Despite this fact, trust in the US military itself is in decline, stemming from a variety of reasons and reflecting America’s overall decline as a global superpower.

Fog of war

At least the Wall Street Journal is willing to step back, however tentatively, from the jingoistic cheerleading choir when it comes to the war in the Ukraine. In reality, Ukraine’s inability to control the skies is going to doom any offensive. And there’s no simple or cheap way to rectify that.

Ukraine had hoped to find gaps in Russia’s fortifications, flood troops through, and cause the kind of havoc that its forces achieved last year among enemy ranks. Instead, unexpectedly dense minefields slowed Kyiv’s initial attacking forces, leaving them exposed to strikes from Russian aircraft and rockets.

Russian drones and attack helicopters, particularly Kamov Ka-52 “Alligator” gunships, have proven particularly dangerous. Ka-52s, which are among Russia’s most modern aircraft, can remain far behind Russian lines and rely on targeting data from spotter drones scanning the front. Their laser-guided Vikhr missiles have a range of roughly 5 miles, which is more than twice the range of any portable antiaircraft missiles in Ukraine’s armory.

“Facta Non Verba”

Indeed.

The Department of National Defence (DND) is claiming that a senior Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) officer “wasn’t participating” in an Ottawa pro-gender ideology protest alongside far-left Antifa extremists despite videos suggesting otherwise.

Livestream footage shows Engineering Officer Pete Davidson, who is also a Joint Task Force 2 operator, standing in a crowd of masked pro-gender ideology protestors at Friday’s demonstration.

Various clips show Davidson, who is wearing a white tee and shorts, pointing at and shouting at demonstrators who were there to oppose gender ideology in schools. Masked Antifa protestors can be seen in the video nearby holding anarchist symbols and insignia. […]

Davidson’s public LinkedIn profile has since been removed…
