RIP Claudia Rosett

You may remember her reporting from the Oil For Food days;

Much of her career was spent with the Wall Street Journal, serving as its Moscow bureau chief and editorial page editor for the Asia division. She was fearless and passionate, especially when reporting about repressive regimes around the world. Claudia was the only print journalist who witnessed the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989, dodging bullets to get the story out to the world (you can read her first-hand account here). She was also a fierce critic of the United Nations and is widely credited with exposing corruption in the international body. She received several awards for her reporting on the UN’s Oil-for-Food program in Iraq. In recent years she had traveled to Hong Kong to cover protests over the encroachment of China. She was also a foreign policy fellow at the Independent Women’s Forum.

They don’t make them like her anymore. (And those that they do are shunted off to Substack).

Michael P Senger- The Great COVID Ventilator Death Cover-up

This practice of prolonged intubation was apparently consistent with guidance from China. As Zeynep Tufekci had put it, “Chinese scientists” advised “many COVID-19 patients need to stay on mechanical ventilators as long as four weeks.”

The New Yorker featured a harrowing account of one early victim’s final moments before he was put on a ventilator and died—even though he didn’t even “feel sick” at the time he was intubated.

A study in JAMA later revealed a 97.2% mortality rate among those over age 65 put on mechanical ventilators. Patients over age 65 were more than 26 times as likely to survive if they were NOT placed on mechanical ventilators.

Today, Democracy Watch revealed…

… that a search of Elections Canada’s database shows that lawyer Sheila R. Block, whom David Johnston retained to assist him in obtaining, reviewing and analyzing secret information that Prime Minister Trudeau gave them access to, seems to have donated a total of $7,593.38 (listed under “Sheila Block” and “Sheila R. Block”) to only the Liberal Party of Canada from 2006 to 2022. Johnston confirms that he retained Ms. Block for these purposes on in Section II.2) of his first report (page 6 of PDF) which he released yesterday.

Democracy Watch announced that it will file a complaint with the federal Ethics Commissioner’s office that David Johnston is violating the federal Conflict of Interest Act by ruling on his old friend Justin Trudeau’s actions on foreign interference. DWatch already filed a complaint with the Commissioner about Trudeau violating the Act by handing a government contract to his old friend Johnston – click here to see details.

It is a violation of the Act to participate in any decision or action when there is an opportunity to further your own interests, your relative’s interests, or the interests of a friend, and both Trudeau and Johnston are covered by the Act.

Too bad there’s no current Ethics Commissioner to roll out those message-sending $100 fines.

As Trudeau travels the globe spreading inclusion and blackface: Erin O’Toole met with David Johnston for his Report

To set the scene, Mr. Johnston did not reach out to the Conservative Party, my office, or Pierre Poilievre’s office until the final week of his initial assignment. He waited until the very end to meet with the current and former leaders of the Party that had been the central target of the foreign interference he was charged with investigating. If I am to believe media reports, Johnston interviewed the Bloc Quebecois leader about events alleged to have taken place in British Columbia and Ontario – where Mr. Blanchet ran no candidates – before he finally got around to me or the present Conservative Leader. This makes no sense.

I was still waiting to receive a CSIS briefing on foreign interference that had been promised the week before when my office was called by the Johnston team and told we only had two days to make the meeting work. I asked to meet with him following my meeting with CSIS (which I am still waiting to receive) but was told that this was not possible. I confirmed with Pierre that his office received a request to meet on the same day that I was. He declined the meeting and somehow that information was leaked to the media within hours. […]

Given the pressed timeline, we were literally putting the binders together as Mr. Johnston arrived at my office with his counsel. With this in mind, you might understand how disappointed I was to learn halfway through my meeting that Johnston’s report was already undergoing French translation. I was flabbergasted and realized that nothing I was going to provide to the Special Rapporteur was going to impact his work.

What a country.

Update: Johnston’s report is in.

A Quebec charity suspected of hosting two secret Chinese “overseas police stations” has received more than $4.45 million (£2.65 million) from the Canadian government over the last three years.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the Service à la Famille Chinoise du Grand Montréal (SFCGM), which purports to provide support to the Chinese community, is really used by Beijing to monitor and intimidate its citizens in Canada.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) believe this is one of two secret police stations in Quebec, which has nearly 92,000 people of Chinese origin.

There has been growing anxiety about the network of secret Chinese police stations across the world, which are accused of routinely harassing exiles on behalf of Beijing’s authoritarian regime.

Kelly McCauley, a Canadian Conservative MP, said he was “stunned” that no attempt had been made to recoup the money.

Well, we wouldn’t want to make them angry.

I’m Not Eating Bugs And I’m Not Eating Chicken-19

They’ll do for chicken what they did for coronavirus;

GOOD Meat’s filing reveals the China-linked firm JOINN is integral to the production and quality control of the newly-licensed cultivated chicken. The company, founded in 2018 as an offshoot of its parent JOINN Laboratories, has a facility not far from Eat Just’s headquarters in San Francisco.

According to the filing, “JOINN Biologics US Inc (CA, USA) currently produces the chicken cells in a dedicated manufacturing suite” in Richmond, California. The filing goes on to describe how “the cells harvested at JOINN Biologics are frozen for shipment without cryopreservation agents to locations where the finished meat food products are prepared.” In addition to manufacturing the chicken, JOINN is responsible for ensuring the raw materials it is produced from are of a suitable quality and “food safety risks from potential adventitious agents or other contaminants” are mitigated.

Chinese Biowarfare.

JOINN Biologics made national headlines in 2022 when it bought 1,400 acres of land in Morriston, Florida at a cost of $5.5 million, to build a new primate quarantine and breeding facility to expand the parent company’s existing lab-animal-breeding operations. The purchase was one of the largest single purchases of American real estate by a Chinese company to date.

News of the purchase led to the revelation that JOINN, like most Chinese companies, has extremely close ties to the Chinese government and its biowarfare program.

Creepy Joe Xiden

They get what they paid for.

A recent report from Reuters alleges that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has already been implicated in several scandals, was purportedly prioritizing the interests of the Chinese Communist Party. The report, supported by leaked emails and inside sources, proves what many on the right feared all along: Joe Biden was far more concerned about not offending China than our national security.

“When an alleged Chinese spy balloon traversed the United States in February, some U.S. officials were confident the incursion would galvanize the U.S. bureaucracy to push forward a slate of actions to counter China,” reports Reuters. “Instead, the U.S. State Department held back human rights-related sanctions, export controls and other sensitive actions to try to limit damage to the U.S.-China relationship, according to four sources with direct knowledge of U.S. policy, as well as internal emails seen by Reuters.”

Despite the State Department’s expression of dissatisfaction regarding the spy balloon incident, which led to the postponement of Blinken’s intended visit to Beijing, an internal communication within the State Department, examined by Reuters, reveals that senior U.S. officials deliberately delayed planned measures against China.

Rick Waters, the deputy assistant secretary of State for China and Taiwan, who oversees the Office of China Coordination (“China House”), conveyed in an email to the staff on Feb. 6, which has not been previously disclosed: “Guidance from S (Secretary of State) is to push non-balloon actions to the right so we can focus on symmetric and calibrated response. We can revisit other actions in a few weeks.”

Things You’ll Never See On The CBC

@AndrewScheer

Bombshell report of Beijing’s interference in our democracy, intimidating an MPs family over a vote in the House of Commons.

CBC: why you need sex ed before you go to space.

Not one article on their news home page about Trudeau’s inaction.

Related: Almost three-quarters of the public blame the news media for political polarization and most have very little faith in the press’ ability to “fairly and accurately” report the news. I know you’re all shocked.

Show Of Farce

Western Producer;

Fraud and breach of trust charges against a former Agriculture Canada researcher at the research centre in Swift Current, Sask., have been stayed.

Yantai Gan was to go to trial May 1, but a King’s Bench judge ruled earlier this year that the matter was taking too long.

Federal prosecutor Wade McBride said the Supreme Court of Canada’s Jordan decision established timelines to get matters to trial. For provincial court, the limit is 18 months and for King’s Bench it must be heard within 30 months.

“We argued all sorts of points as to where portions of the delay (occurred),” McBride said.

“In the end the trial judge found that to the end of the trial would be 30 months and two weeks, so we would be two weeks past that Jordan absolute limitation.” […]

Gan, now 67, was charged in November 2019 after a 21-month investigation by RCMP.

He allegedly worked for Gansu Agricultural University in China while also working for the federal government.

Court documents alleged the offences occurred between Jan. 1, 2012, and June 30, 2018. They said Gan entered into an unauthorized contractual arrangement with the university, failed to disclose the relationship and the remuneration he received, and that he recruited for, or organized, an international research collaboration for the university.

The arrest was kept secret for two years.

The greatest victory is that which requires no battle: “He told MPs that Mounties nevertheless parked police vehicles in front of the four suspected illegal police stations to show their presence”
