Today, Democracy Watch revealed…
… that a search of Elections Canada’s database shows that lawyer Sheila R. Block, whom David Johnston retained to assist him in obtaining, reviewing and analyzing secret information that Prime Minister Trudeau gave them access to, seems to have donated a total of $7,593.38 (listed under “Sheila Block” and “Sheila R. Block”) to only the Liberal Party of Canada from 2006 to 2022. Johnston confirms that he retained Ms. Block for these purposes on in Section II.2) of his first report (page 6 of PDF) which he released yesterday.
Democracy Watch announced that it will file a complaint with the federal Ethics Commissioner’s office that David Johnston is violating the federal Conflict of Interest Act by ruling on his old friend Justin Trudeau’s actions on foreign interference. DWatch already filed a complaint with the Commissioner about Trudeau violating the Act by handing a government contract to his old friend Johnston – click here to see details.
It is a violation of the Act to participate in any decision or action when there is an opportunity to further your own interests, your relative’s interests, or the interests of a friend, and both Trudeau and Johnston are covered by the Act.
Too bad there’s no current Ethics Commissioner to roll out those message-sending $100 fines.

Someone should tell Democracy Watch that they have nothing to watch in Canada. It’s all gone already.

Normally, Chinada as the USA’s next door neighbor would be as worrisome to Washington as NATO on Russia’s border is to Putin but Biden is doing a pretty good job of marching to Xi’s tune, as well.
Xi has the goods on Biden. Biden has no choice but to do as he is told.
Yabbut Johnston said that he consulted with a friend to see if he was in any sort of ethical conflict by investigating his friend Justin Trudeau and the Chinese election interference.
I’m guessing that the friend he consulted was named Justin Trudeau.
Any rank and file Liberal Party member than hasn’t torn up their Liberal Party membership car by now is just a flat our idiot or just as corrupt as Trudeau.
They get away with this banana republic garbage because their members will support them no matter what and refuse to think for themselves..
Is there a better description of a cult than that?
Yes, it’s a cult, but membership IS very rewarding. I give the Liberal cult credit for staying within the bounds of their religion, something Conservatives regularly fail to do.
I know a lot of Liberals, and they are all successful people, mostly professionals, earning a good living. Why would they want to leave the cult when they’re so comfortable?

“Johnston, who was named governor general by former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, serving from 2010 until 2017,…
We can sure pick’em.
Gee, you’d think that Westerners would be all up in arms and ready to separate.
Of course, after hearing it here for 20 years, a couple of things become obvious:
a. a lot of Canadian Conservatives are from the West
b. the Conservatives always lose (either the election or the culture wars)
c. the West ain’t separating
Well, not unless you can make a deal with Putin for a half dozen nukes and take out Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
Then you might have a voting chance and a workable country.
PS. Maybe do us wee Eastern Conservatives(all 17 of us) a leaving favor and get a couple extra nukes for Ottawa and Toronto.
PPS. Given the current pathetic state of this country’s missing freedoms and Government’s well known lack of humor, together with their fondness for overreaction and jackboot tendencies, I feel that I should note that all the foregoing is nothing but my paltry proletarian attempt at humor and if you have to steal my bank account, that’s okay. We both know that you’re going to get it all sooner later. Just joking again.
So help me Justin and Pierre.
I have no doubt that she was compensated more than $7,593.38
The Liberals don’t need no stinking ethics.
that’s “ETHNICS”, like those people, voting, for free, stuff, or something…
Seems to be a few people around here who want to try and start some false flag operations…
You don’t need ethics when you have an ethics commissioner.
$100 finds? I bet Justin spends more than that on his orange juice.
In other news, Han Dong claims he is vindicated and wants to rejoin liberals, after getting $15 m payout from Global news….

What’s interesting is neither democracy or our? law and order had anything to do with our culture doing so well.. It was just wealth that just so happened to reside in democracies.. The moment a better deal dictatorship pops up we are all in..
Dirt poor democracies are not worth the fiat currency they are based on when selling a few eyeballs will net you double digit profits..
We call this free enterprise..
Oh my gosh.. The stinky rich Chinese have moved in :).. Just as the Americans did before them.. Lets pretend we dont want their money..
The ground rules of the public inquiry seem to be
(a) we cannot go into actual facts because those are secret and must remain secret,
(b) we cannot be very specific but some general guidelines are good, like, don’t interfere in our managed sham-democracy, we are perfectly capable of doing that from Ottawa,
(c) all hail glorious leader.
It will be like a Democrat primary, once the results are invented, the process gets underway to confirm the results.
The only unknown is how many white supremacists will disrupt how many town halls with how many angry outbursts. But they will be stopped at a traffic check and their arsenal of weapons will be unloaded, taken back to the warehouse, and the actors paid as agreed. Eventually an angry Cabinet minister will vow to prevent Canadians from interfering in their elections by spreading false rumours, such as bugs don’t taste good.
The net result of the inquiry: bugs taste good.
Please commit to memory.
Liberal government funded media panel discuss whether the Johnston corruption farce will affect the Liberal government’s popularity and by extension whether it jeopardizes their Liberal government funding.
“The Front Bench panel discusses whether or not David Johnston recommending against a public inquiry will be ‘damaging’ to the Liberals.”
