“Heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods — all are now more frequent and more intense. We can choose to believe that superstorm Sandy, and the most severe drought in decades, and the worst wildfires some states have ever seen were all just a freak coincidence,” President Obama said in his State of the Union address. “Or we can choose to believe in the overwhelming judgment of science — and act before it’s too late.”
The Country’s In The Very Best Of Hands
I’m calling on the Supreme Leader of North Korea or as I call him “Kim”, to do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose.

What 1980’s faux-pas do you not want your company associated with?
New Coke™.
Anyone familiar with the Gnome 3 fiasco in the Linux world predicted exactly what has happened to Windows 8.
And look, a similar result:
In March 2013, GNOME 3.8 was released, which includes a new “Classic mode” that restores a number of features such as an application menu, a places menu and a window switcher along the bottom of the screen, as extensions to the Shell.
Whoever thinks that the open source world just copies the big software developers really doesn’t follow the open source world. The difference is that open source can afford to make mistakes.

You know what. I wear this. I wear this all summer.

You know what else? I’m not running for leadership of 33M people and an economy that is leading the world.

“I firmly believe that the reason it took us so long to get the FBI to Benghazi is because of those Sunday talk shows.”
And the former cabinet holder wants to be president? Not bloody likely.
You want to know why it matters, Mrs. Clinton? “What difference it makes?” I’ll tell you. People who trusted you to fulfill your oath, as they were, died because you didn’t hold up your end of the bargain.
Or, as Justin would say, Exclusion…
Welcome someone into your country, give him a free education, college scholarships & welfare benefits. In TimeSpeak, this is “alienation.”

Broad Strata update
In the country for 20 years, but not a citizen…how does that work?
Forget the respect due….
Think more on the fact that “smart diplomacy” is ignoring the obvious opportunity to hobnob with the rest of the worlds leaders at a time of global uncertainty.
Amateurs.

A revolting story. A reinforcement of why I, a socially liberal fiscal conservative, am in favour of banning third trimester abortions except when under 16, rape or health.
But then, Canada has no laws at all governing abortion and the uterus corps will mobilize at the first mention there of, so whatever, eh. The Aztecs had a pretty good civilization for a long time with human sacrifice too.
While I don’t particularly believe the media cone of silence theory, one really has to question their bubble … or at least good journalists would.

This isn’t your fathers NDP
I know that most people were engrossed in Prince Justin’s coronation this weekend, but another notable event also happened in Canadian politics. The NDP had a policy convention.
Nothing much of note happened, except that chief radical* Barry Weisleder was ejected from the NDP convention.
You know how it’s the ‘new’ NDP? How people question the association of marxists and socialists with the ‘modern’ NDP? Yeah, nothing says we aren’t socialists like ejecting the head of the Socialist caucus from your policy convention.
What’s that?
#NDP13: disruption on floor led to socialist Barry Weisleder’s credentials being revoked. Review revealed confusion. Credentials restored.

Oh, never-mind.
* I had a very similar beard for several years. Growing a beard doesn’t necessarily mean you are a radical. Given my political leanings at that time though it may actually mean you are a radical.
Mission Creep
As of Sunday the city has spent more money shaving ruts than it would have cost to clear all residential streets once this winter, with no end in sight.
Since Monday, graders and sanders have worked around the clock to clear residential roadways at a cost of $80,000 to $100,000 a day, according to Mike Gutek, general manager of infrastructure for the City of Saskatoon.
“I think it’s painfully unfair to look back in hindsight and say ‘I told you so.'” It’s not fair for anyone on council to say that because we tried hard to come up with a budget we all thought we could live with,” said Atchison.
Fitness fans can celebrate as the City of Saskatoon is rolling out a four-month program of free fitness classes at Kiwanis Park.
“It seems small but this is really good news for Saskatoon,” said Ward 9 councillor Tiffany Paulsen.
Fire them all.

In North America, we call it ‘Fisker’
‘Solyndra’, and crony capitalism.
“My wife has been crying for three or four days now saying: ‘Why should we pay and not them?'” says Andreas.
It was revealed last week in Greek media that Laiki, the Bank of Cyprus and the Hellenic Bank forgave loans amounting to millions of euros to companies, local authorities and individual politicians.
It’s what happens when politicians and business people spend time together on the golf courses.

Maybe ‘substance’ is the last thing Canadians should be worried about:
Trudeau”s not worried about those who say he lacks substance: “I’m not going to go around reciting PI to the 19th decibel” he says #cdnpoli

This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society
It’s a good thing there isn’t a “People for the Ethical Treatment of Activists”.
Despite $35,000,000 in annual revenues and millions of “animal-loving” members, PETA does not even try to find them homes. PETA has no adoption hours, does no adoption promotion, has no adoption floor, but is registered with the State of Virginia as a “humane society” or “animal shelter.”

You know that last fight scene in The Matrix? Neo is fighting Agent Smith and is so much faster that he doesn’t really have to concentrate? Smith tries to lay a hit, but Neo blocks them all with one hand while looking away.
Yeah, The Toronto Star is Agent Smith.
Reward success, Punish cheats
Tony Merchant is fairly notorious in Saskatchewan circles, deserved or not. Many people react to the name with a an upturned eyebrow and a smirk. Anyone familiar with David Orchard’s reputation in the province is by default familiar with Mr. Merchant’s reputation.
He is, by all accounts, an excellent class-action lawyer and as such, richly deserves the rewards that our justice system allows in those types of suits. Whether they are justified or more akin to ambulance chasing is secondary. They are allowed in law and as such Mr. Merchant has every right and responsibility to make as much for his clients and himself as possible.
And that’s why the allegations regarding taxes and hidden money really gets my goat.
A prominent Canadian lawyer, husband to a Liberal senator, moved nearly $2 million to secretive financial havens while he was locked in battle with the Canada Revenue Agency over his taxes, according to documents in a massive leak of offshore financial data that were shared exclusively in Canada with CBC News.
Make a pile of money doing something most people don’t really want to be associated with, well done. Try and cheat the country out of it’s share; whose laws allowed the pile in the first place, very wrong.
(Note: Liberal lawyer in this story. Watch your comments.)
March Jobs Reports
The US: “The unemployment rate fell to 7.6%, amid a drop in Labor Force Participation.”
Canada: “Following an increase the previous month, employment declined by 55,000 in March, all in full time. The unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 7.2%.”
Saskatchewan: “While employment in Saskatchewan was little changed in March, the province experienced the strongest year-over-year growth in the country, at 4.6%. The unemployment rate was 3.9% in March, still the lowest among all provinces.”
Note, CDN numbers are not comparable to US numbers, different means of measurement. As I understand it, if the US followed CDN metrics, the US would be around 13-14% unemployed.
History started in 1960
President Obama proves once again how smart he is.
Lets see, 1775, 1812, Fenian raids. Yeah, Bozo, it’s two hundred years now since we gleefully spilled each others blood, 150 since the last skirmishes. That’s okay though, I’m sure Obama believes he just has to give a speech to create a path for Israel/Palestinian relations to become similar to Canada/US.?
I really don’t understand why the US, in general, is so concerned about peace in the M.East. Every president since Kennedy has mucked about in the region, usually creating more problems than they fix. These are the people who can’t get bipartisan support from their adversaries in their own political system and the world is supposed to give a damn about what the US thinks about the Middle East? It changes every four years.
Know your allies, support your allies, and then shut up, already.
Now Is The Time At SDA When We Juxtapose!
Federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair said reviving his party in Saskatchewan is one of his highest priorities.
“We’re going to continue to be here. We’ll be here every step of the way,” Mulcair said in a speech to Saskatchewan NDP members Saturday.
“Together, we will succeed.”
In a whirlwind visit to Washington this week, Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair is bearing an entirely different message from that brought by the parade of Conservative leaders who recently invaded the U.S. to sell the Keystone XL pipeline.
In related news, Saskatchewan NDP leader Cam Broten could be heard swearing in his office.
