I’ve been in the country for 16 years, only applied for citizenship last year, still waiting for it to come through. I could have remained a permanent resident forever.

Well if one blogger is right that the Americans should have picked their own cotton to avoid racial tensions then am I when I say we should have had our own babies to avoid religious tensions?
In the country 20 years….ie Landed Immigrant, doesn’t mean you’ve taken out citizenship.
Further, if you are remanded in custody it implies you are a threat or a flight risk.
Of course the public will be interested to find out the details of the evidence in due course; particularly the allegation of Al Qaeda connections in Iran. ( the enemy of my enemy is my friend scenario )
Given that months of surveillance of the suspects, the authorities will no doubt have some eves dropping information, electronic and otherwise over a significant period of time to make their case.

What hilarity to even hear that comment on the government propaganda channel today. I’m surprised they didn’t use “Al Qaeda connections in North Korea” last week as well, when the little fat guy was in the news.
That damned Al Qaeda just pops up like little weasels wherever the eye of Mordor falls – well not in Toronto, London, Paris or New York much of course.
Then there’s always the “Good Al Qaeda” when they need them, like in Libya or Syria, the ones SDA LAS likes to support when they fight FOR Obamba against evil bad men like Assad or Ghadaffi.
Without citizenship you have ZERO rights, a permanent resident Status can be terminated by the Government or the subject.. The conditions are not unknown.
I guess these folks don’t understand the OPEN status issue is not to thier advantage.
BTW: IMHO the FBI must fire all those involved in investigating the Boston Bomber that WAS NOT a Citizen, and travelled to Russia for 6 months… That was not possible when I had a green Car..all extended trips would trigger auto rejection when returning. The bastard MSM are saying his name was miss-spelled by the Airline GOING OUT. That does not explain how he got through immigration when he returned…The FBI are lying
I lived in the USA for ten years and wasn’t even a landed immigrant. Not for lack of trying, mind you. After ten years and probably twelve thousand dollars in lawyers I gave up and came back to Kanuckistan.
Turns out to have been a good move.

Return to Canada with your Canadian passport and you still have to line-up behind all the foreigners at the airport whereas some other countries recognize their own people.
Citizenship means something to real Canadians who accept our society and culture, we know it beats all other alternatives. But it means nothing to the savages we invite here who wish to destroy us, the savages know we’ll keep them well fed with or without citizenship.

What almost certainly happened is that some smelly imam in some smelly mosque somewhere felt the heat from the authorities, and decided to save his own rear end.
Muslims are cowards, so it is not unusual to see one of them turn in another to save his own rear end.
Not being a citizen will make it so much easier to deport him once his sentence is done. Even if he did have citizenship, to be a convicted terrorist should be grounds to revoke it. Legislation please?

It would not surprise me at all if this imam felt some heat, and decided it was better to report than have his mosque investigated.

My wife is Malaysian, they do not recognize dual citizenship, she only came here for me, so she will remain a PR. Not to mention the Malaysian government has better healthcare (dual private and public)
I find it astonishing that a Muslim can stand up in a press conference and say that violence has nothing to do with Islam. This is so laughable it is frightening.
