    This been making rounds a couple of days, but I just saw the video of a Cessna trying to catch a paraglider as a decorative … nose trim. This happened in Austria, Zell am See or something.

    As far as I can tell, the last place in Calgary where you can play this game (or the direct successor to it) is at Atlas Pizza, in the far east. There are a couple of other places where you can play the game if you’re signed up for it on your device, but Atlas has boards of their own that transients can play on. (It’s possible they have boards at Milestones on McLeod Trail, if anyone hangs around there let me know.)

    There used to be a regular, nationally competitive trivia scene in Calgary but it died out over the last few years as other locations dropped the game or closed. Atlas is very much a neighbourhood place and the locals enjoy the game, but they don’t play very seriously, and the serious players either find it too remote to come out regularly, or have lost interest – in far too many cases, lost it entirely and died.

    Any Calgary readers might want to check the place out. There are basic games going all the time. Featured games run every evening from 5:30, with a big game lasting an hour at 6:30; the Tuesday and Thursday games are considered especially challenging and prestigious. After each game you’re ranked against all the other bars across America playing, and the top twenty individual scores and the top twenty bar average scores get displayed in them all, so if you can make the top twenty it promotes the bar.

    There’s evidently a lively group playing regularly at the Touch of Class in Edmonton, but these days it’s blind luck if anybody shows up here in Calgary. But, when you least expect it, one of the old crowd turns up. Anyway, who knows how long it will last, so consider having a look.
