Without enormous cash subsidies, few if any practical entrepreneurs would invest in wind energy. According to Professor Gordon Hughes, a former political economist at the University of Edinburgh and senior energy adviser to the World Bank, green subsidies now account for three quarters of the price of electricity in the UK, while “the cost of Net Zero to the public is much higher than politicians are willing to admit“.

In a recent paper co-authored with Dr Lee Moroney, Associate Director of the Renewable Energy Foundation, it is noted that the British consumer has been forced over the last two decades to pay a staggering £274 billion (at 2025 prices) to support electricity generated from renewable sources. The numerous direct and indirect annual subsidies for the unreliable breezes and beams have risen from £0.2 billion in 2005 to £22.6 billion last year. That sum, suggest the authors, is expected to grow rapidly under current Government plans and could exceed UK defence spending by 2030.

To better understand the trade in Quebec’s fake driver’s license, our Investigation Bureau commissioned it on the Chinese website IDCACA.

The operation was disconcertingly easy.

We created two fictional identities, generated two identity photos using artificial intelligence, and provided the address of a P.O. box for delivery.

A few minutes later, the order was placed for the small sum of $120 per permit.

For the purposes of the survey, we paid in bitcoin. But the site also accepts more common payment methods, such as PayPal, Apple Pay and credit cards.

Over the course of the exchange with the seller, we asked him to add to the licenses the classes 1, 2, 3, 4A and 4B required to drive trucks, rather than the only class 5 normally intended for passenger vehicles. The change was made without any verification.

Then, radio silence.

Four weeks later, the package arrived at a Montreal sorting center, where we went to pick it up in person.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in the lead following a pivotal election Tuesday — making a third act for the Iran war almost certain.

The prime minister’s coalition was in the lead Wednesday with 53 seats after Gadi Eisenkot’s Change bloc failed to deliver a knockout blow following the highest election turnout in decades.

Eisenkot had 49 seats with more than 90% of the vote counted. Both sides were notably well short of the 61 seats needed for a majority.

RSG Law Professional Corporation, an Ontario law firm founded by former Brampton Member of Parliament Rajvinder “Raj” Grewal, was placed into receivership on October 23, 2026, with AlixPartners Restructuring, Inc. appointed as receiver by Justice Sean Dunphy of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. The appointment follows an earlier June 12 order appointing AlixPartners Advisory, Inc. as sales officer over properties associated with Avtar Singh Grewal and related parties, and forms part of a series of proceedings involving alleged real estate fraud, disputed mortgage claims and potential misuse of law firm trust accounts.

The underlying litigation was commenced by WIGI Restructured Bond Corporation, part of the Walton Group, against 1000234566 Ontario Inc., Amrinder Singh Mangat, Avtar Singh Grewal, Arandeep Grewal, RSG Law Professional Corporation and Davinder Singh Khattra. WIGI alleges that the defendants concealed real estate transactions and diverted sale proceeds that should have been used to repay vendor take-back mortgages. The proceedings have since drawn in numerous property-owning entities and secured creditors, with AlixPartners tasked with preserving assets, tracing funds and investigating competing claims.

Squeaky clean: Elected as a Liberal in the 2015 Canadian federal election,[2][3] he resigned from caucus in 2018 after a police investigation into his extensive gambling debts, and did not stand in the 2019 Canadian federal election. In September 2020, he was charged by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for breach of trust and fraud over $5,000.

Update: Not all of it stayed in their pockets.

Canada is facing a carbon tariff threat from the European Union within months as the economic bloc fully implements its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

According to internal documents CBC News obtained through an access to information request, Canadian iron, steel and aluminum are not exempt from the carbon tariff even with Canada’s national price on carbon and its decade-old trade deal with the European Union.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip (President of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs) has warned that First Nations will resist the incoming B.C. Conservative government’s plan to repeal DRIPA.

“We’re not going to stand idly by while the government-elect does, in fact, rip it up,” Phillip said.

“That’s a declaration of war.”

Phillip referred to DRIPA as a roadmap to reconciliation and asked whether B.C. would end up as a war zone or continue down the path of reconciliation.

Full disclosure: I served as a communications adviser to Netanyahu for a year, until June 2024, including on October 7. I am a secular Israeli living in Tel Aviv. I have never voted for either Ben-Gvir or Smotrich, both of whom are religiously observant, and I do not intend to vote for either in the upcoming election. I have my own criticisms of both men. But much of the commentary about them abroad misses why so many Israelis support them.
