It is not at all clear to me that many of America’s conservative politicians understand the seriousness of all this. You can see it in the fact that they go around trying to scare people with the specter of a “radical socialist agenda.” For well over a year now, we have been living in a world in which it’s accepted as normal that the state has essentially unlimited power—and in which our freedom to decide for ourselves has been diminished almost to invisibility. Why do these conservative politicians think the words “radical socialist agenda” still scare anyone in a time when the state can tell us whether we can have Aunt Mabel over for Christmas? They are completely out of touch.

Really shows who should not have had them in the first place as they keep adding more laws under this guidance such as Covid passports…damn assholes.

I don’t know why anybody is surprised that the Republican wing of the Uniparty is very much like the Democrat wing of the Uniparty, they both believe that the government exists to solve all the problems in the world and you’re going to need a bigger government to get that done. If you ever believed the Republicans favored a smaller government, the failure to repeal Obamacare should have disabused you of that notion. The Republicans failed to repeal Obamacare because they couldn’t answer one simple question: “If you repeal Obamacare, what form of socialized medicine are you going to replace it with?”. Not a one of them answered “Nothing.”
The Dems actually have a point when they ask (repeatedly) what Socialist medicine program PDJT was working on … and was just about ready to reveal. He never got around to saying … NO. No, we won’t have ANY socialized medicine program. And thanks to that ROTTEN John McCain, who is rotting in Hell … we are still eating that shit sandwich of Obamakkare.

One of the main reason’s to break up Canada. Is so that the people who created Canada, and us their inheritor’s can survive the Communists. Canada has been Openly Communist for some time. It is even enshrined in PET’s Constitution 1982.
In order for the people to survive, Canada the state of Communist Canada has to be dismantled. Because we can not FIX it within Canada.
A very thought provoking piece by Steyn. He is absolutely correct. It is obvious the direction in which we are heading, but I do not see how it can be stopped. The US and Canada are too far gone. Thanks very much for posting, Kate. A very good read.
His very clear, and very dire discussion actually depressed the hell out of me. Why? Because it is all true. Our US Constitution has simply been ignored and/or replaced … by unsavory actors elected (and non elected) within the workings of our government at all levels.
The only remedy is the SCOTUS … which has demonstrated its alliance with the “Institutional” Deep State … NOT with … We The People of the USA. And the Deep State, along with their corporate and Lawfare partners, have deliberately forced The People to sue all the way to the SCOTUS to reclaim Our Constitutional Rights. Knowing that the SCOTUS … even “Trump’s conservative SCOTUS” will likely IGNORE their duty to enforce the Constitution.
Yeah. We’re in for the fight of our lives. I’m feeling more and more like an Overrun Country … seized by the Soviet Union.

Steyn is correct, and America as I know it is probably lost at this point. It’s easy to believe the noise, but all polling shows that very few Americans believe the “news” or politicians of any stripe. Peaceable Americans own 400 million guns, are slow to anger, and are willing to wait it out for a while longer. We will have waited too long no matter what happens next.
Conservatives may be out of touch but so is a significant portion of the electorate.
I’m surprised Whitmer’s goons didn’t show up and have him frog-marched out in zip cuffs. Such an unmutual speech. More, please!
Steyn has a gift of distilling everything down to its essence and eloquently rubbing your face in it. Would’ve been cool to have been there for this speech, to see the crowd reactions if nothing else.
If you let the enemy control any aspect of a war, you lose. Cede nothing and take the fight to them, or retire from the field, because if you always play defence, there’s only one outcome for you. The four biggest western enemies of civilisation are government, media, academia, and unions. And then there’s China and its enablers. But the media are the battleground and where this war will be lost or won, because the others can’t go down while the media has its current influence and strength. The battlefield is control of the narrative (including the language), and almost everything else is just window dressing.
Great article. Steyn has a knack at saying exactly what needs to be said and this article says what we should all be reading. I printed off a copy and will be keeping that copy on my home office bulletin board, at least until the book burning police come and take it down !
